Drop of life by dusterherz

[raw]
made by dusterherz for LD 44 (JAM)

Two students in animation and one developer (and not game developer !) decided to co-op for this ludum dare and created Drop of life !

ezgif.com-optimize.gif

The goal of this game is simple, there is a pillar that give you some drop of life. These drops are your life so you have to protect this pillar from the monsters that come to destroy it.

For that, you can just kill them with a basic attack (button 1 or space) or you can use some skills but if you do this, you have to pay with your drops of life (button 2 or f for shield and button 3 or shift for dash) So be aware of your life and defend your pillar 🙂!

This prototype has only one infinite round of enemies just to get a feeling of the game :v: . In the future we want to add multiples round with more difficult enemies and boss :muscle: !

Would love to play the game, I am really into this artwork but unfortunately the web link shows me a white page and in the console are many errors, maybe the game is broken or host it on itch.io?

**Update -> Ad-Blocker seems to block it haha**

I really like the style of this! Loving the graphics, especially that you included details like an idle animation for the main char. My main feedback is that the controls were a little hard to use with one hand

Lovely concept, and graphics are beautiful. Good work!
It's just unfortunate that there isn't hitbox (I'm looking for defaults ;))

Okay, got it to play, just a small feedback.

After a short amount of time there aren't any enemies spawning and it would be really nice to play the game with arrow keys or use the special effects with numpad since I had to lay my hand on my other hand to play the game. (WASD + number keys)

I really liked the music and the environment art but after like one enemy that was a bit awkward to kill I didn't know what to do

It's a real pity the game ends after the first round (reading descriptions really helps, could have saved reloading 2 times 🤦‍♂️), because the charming graphics and AWESOME music got me totally pumped. The base mechanics seem pretty sound. Maybe hitboxes for the world objects would be nice. I love how you have 3 different idle states! That gives a lot of personality to your character.

This is a really nice prototype. The first wave of enemies was pretty interesting and I enjoyed beating them even though it was pretty easy ^^ The idea and the mechanics behind the game are pretty good but it would have been maybe better to invest more time in multiple waves then into mechanics which are almost useless with only one wave and easy enemies. The music and the sounds are really good but very loud or is it just me? The environment art is amazing and I love it. Also the animation of it is just beautiful. The icons for the abilitys look really nice. The sprite art is also nice but not comparable to the environment. Also I think that the game would benefit from a consistent art-style (outline, no outline, pixel-art, not pixel-art) and the environment was on my computer blurred out. The slimes' movement seems also a bit weird because they seem to float in the air. The y-position should maybe be optimized to their contraction. All in all it's a really great prototype and can be expanded. Also the art-style can be made consistent but there are also enough games that have inconsistent art-styles and are still great (Celeste).

Nicee background art and music. The controls feels at bit stiff when attacking, but otherwise a enjoyable game!

Interesting!

You made very cool graphics there. Music is also nice.

I've enjoyed running around and trying to kill those slimes, but it annoyed when I had to press keys again to move after attack.

Great job and hope you'll improve it further!

Wicked art and animation. Love the little swaying in the trees and water. It does seem like you can just move through all obstacles though, so the rocks, trees and pillars don't seem to actually physically be there. I think some more feedback about attack range would have been nice, as it was hard to judge how far your attacks reach. Well made music as well, it really help set the mood. Would have liked to hear some other sound effects but well done regardless.
EDIT: I see now that the music was royalty free from a youtube channel. Did one of the developers make this? If not, you should really remove yourself from the audio category as you didn't make any of it yourself.

the graphics are cool, I think it would be even more fun if the attacks went a little further and there was some sort of combo mechanics, but I guess that would expecting too much for a game made in a game jam.

@gronther thanks for the catch ! We didn't thought of it so we've deleted the music cat.

Nice background art, post affect(?) and music. Tree are so smooth!

I did not appreciate the loss of visibility behind the pillars and I did not really find any usefulness to the dash as all the enemies went to the same place.

The project is really cool congratulations.

Cute,lovely game.
Enjoyed this one a lot, art is great, music is awesome. Plays smooth also.

Please allow controls for non WASD players, not everyone haves a QWERTY keyboard :)

Great Job

Graphics and the animations are really cool, reload button would've been easier than F5, but it doesn't rly matter that much. The environment especially was so cool so you did a really good job with that. And it's quite satisfying. Maybe some kind of end goal or timer would've added a bit, but I think you just didn't have the time? Alltogether a good game tho :)

Really fun and challenging game! The graphics are well made and the music fits perfevtly! The attacks feelt smooth
and that abilities costs health was a nice use of the theme! Using the shield is quite situational, which i like. Only thing thats missing is sound effects, but it didn't bother me much. Well done!

Really nice graphics and the scene! Also the music creates really fitting atmosphere. The only thing is that the enemies are covered behind the main pillar. I mean it is not an issue, but it would be great to have perhaps a transparency or something there.

Overall great job!! Would definitely like to see some more content
