Black and White Dungeon by YiNian

[raw]
made by YiNian for LD 44 (JAM)

Hello, everyone. I'm here again. This is my second time to participate.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a lovely art partner this time, so I have to finish the art part by myself. As you can see, I didn't do well.I haven't even finished the audio part.

This time I'm making a 2D dungeon shooting game. You need to trade your limited blood for items and make a choice between survival and strength.

ps.When you want to buy an item, there may be a little problem. Please try several times closer to the props.

As a big Binding of Isaac fan I very enjoyed the gameplay of your game. One thing that would help a lot are some animations/visual effect whenever you hit an enemy or get hit yourself (often i had no idea if my bullets were actually hitting or not). It would be nice if you could replenish your health somehow, as it is hard to progress the longer you play. And a small thing: the magician boss' bullets seem to have a very big hitbox, I got hit multiple times even though the bullets were nowhere near me.

It is interesting to play. Looks nice.

Why are there no sounds? It is not enough of them. The idea of the competition is disclosed very simply.

So I like the concept and gameplay is smooth also the graphics are nice, I couldn't figure out how to regain life. But other than that great job. If you have time check out my game too :v:

Thanks for playing @walik @vertuga32 .I'm sorry, as a programmer, I'm really not good at designing art, such as art and sounds. Drawing for the game took at least half of my development time.I hope I can find an art partner next time.

Thanks for playing@a-coltzz .Because the process of the game is not long, so I did not design something to restore life, These life values are enough for customs clearance Games, go to the challenge.XD

Thanks for playing.@paulina In fact, this is the first time I've tried to paint for my game. Thank you for your praise.

Very cool concept! The gameplay was enjoyable and the mechanic worked well. Does the ninja scroll overwrite the romantic swordsman? If so, I guess I wasted a life! For the floor sprite, I think removing some of it would be a simple way to make it look better, I just think there was too much going on in the floor.

Well done!

I kinda liked it, the graphics were simple but still quite nice. The design in general is a bit lacking, like others already said. I'm also more of a programmer than a designer

Thanks for playing@raphiell Your bullet model is based on the props you finally get, but don't worry, each prop has additional attribute gains

Cute little game. I actually like the graphics. They're clean and mostly effective. Some of the graphics could use some contrast to make objects easier to see. Hints of color could be an effective option. As someone else mentioned, even just toning down the floor tiles could help a lot.

The mechanics are fairly smooth. I do wish the enemies would spawn back from the player a bit once the room closes. Overall not a bad little game.

That's some bullet hell in the second room enemy. It is fun and quite playable, but I didn't notice the improvements when buying things, perhaps they should be more obvious?

Thanks for playing@palsina. Props will improve the player's attributes, such as attack or attack speed, and some props will change the bullet model. Because the later the room, the higher the enemy's life, so the improvement of attributes can be less intuitive, by the way, the sequence of boss is random

Good game. Simple to understand. Some sound effects would add more fun to the game.

Enemy health bars would've been nicer. Also, the camera size felt too small. It was hard to guess the positions of enemies outside the screen.

Once I got two of the same items to buy. It would be better to make sure that there are different items to choose from.

One of my favourite genres :) That's why I'm gonna be brutally honest.
The basic gameplay is there and works quite well. The risk/reward upgrade mechanics that stem from the LD theme are pretty obious and I can't say if the balancing is well done or not, because I couldn't beat the last boss with all of the upgrades even thouogh I was shooting at him for literal minutes. After a while, I stopped the fight on my terms. A health bar on the boss is an absolute minimum. Also, the level textures were way to distracting for a bullet hell like twin stick shooter. It was hard to make out all of the bullets when moving and shooting. A clear view on all relevant enemie bullets at all times is a must. Of course, sound and music would've been great :) no need to go in detail on that part.

The art as a whole was basic, but worked well enough.
Keep up thr work!
