Everything is Cards! by Casual Dutchman

[raw]
made by Casual Dutchman for LD 41 (JAM)

Combine a shooter with a card-game and this is what you will get. Cards as weapons, cards as enemies. There is probably more things that can be converted to cards as well, but gotta stop somewhere. Lack of sound is due to bad personal prioritization, wish I did more work for that. Sounds finish the game for real :(

I spent about 8 hours per day on this game, couldn't work on it all day. Made in about 24 hours.

I would totally play an entire adventure game of just this. Good work.

The game is easy enough to get into and can be fun for a round, there are a few thing that severely limit it's potential thought.

* it's supposed to be a shooter, but you can also melee... not really a problem, but it draws attention to the fact that the game doesn't really seem to know what 2 incompatible genres it want's to mix
* the lack of feedback when hitting with the axe makes it annoying to play with the axe
* i found 3 different cards. I assume there might be a fourth one? Anyhow: you get these cards really quick and from that point on picking up cards isn't a mechanic anymore.
* I hardly saw the fireball - it looked like the particle effect got cancelled or sth?

Really funny concept, could use a bit more feedback on attacks but good job!

The concept is a very good one, though the gameplay so far kind of devolved into kiting all of the enemies around until my mana filled up. It never really felt exciting in any of the fights with melee characters. More variety in terms of things to avoid, weapons to use, and attacks to avoid could do wonders for the game though, and this is certainly a good base.

I think its an interesting combo but it just didn't feel baked enough for me. I think you should continue to polish on it if you want with the feedback people have given(i agree with most of it). My main one would be more user feedback on actions it took me a solid 5 mins to figure out how to do damage properly (with a few restarts)

It was very hard to see the cards once i picked them up and i think the cards get way to close to you for attacking so you fully miss out on the beauty of the card artwork and the description while trying to smash them with your magic axe.

Keep up the good work!!

Wish this was a full game! I think the enemies should drop specific items, because it was really disappointing when the dragon dropped a worse bow than I had equipped! Couldn't tell if I was hitting with the axe either. I liked the look of the environment though

I like the combination of genres you chose. The idea is really interesting and the game is entertaining. I felt it a little hard because the camera moves really fast with the mouse. I only pick range weapons since i think they are more useful and have the same damage than the mele and they dont have changes. My strategy is stay on a high rock is shoot everything comes near. The art is nice, great job! Dont worry too much for the music, it would be great have one but this is a jam and it's understandable that put all you have in your mind into a game in a short time is really hard and some parts have to be sacrificed. Overall, it needs some balancing but it a fun game and has potential, i hope you continue it.

Woah! I really liked this one. I'm a nut for CCG's so it really grabbed my interest. I felt compelled to collect all of the cards. The art was good, but left me wanting a little more audio polish and some effects to give more feedback to the player when they perform actions like picking up cards or when they are out of mana. Great job on this.

Hey you made a neat little game! Looks nice and is pretty fun to play. I feel like you could have played into the card game aspect of the game a little more because the different cards basically just felt like different weapons. Wasn't super sure exactly of what constituted a "hit" as sometimes I shot arrows at a card and the card's health would go down but other times it wouldn't. Would like just a bit more player feedback for this kind of thing. Definitely had a great time playing this game. Congratulations on making a game in 24 hours!
