Updates v2.0
I will get to rating games from all the people who've commented on/rated my game so far very soon!
I added a new *HELP screen for people that might be confused! :D Yay! *
I updated the game to fix many of the small (and big) bugs. I also turned on several features that I forgot about in the initial build.
You can still play the *jam version of the game by changing the toggle on the Title Screen. *
There is a custom level with *locked pieces to make building a path slightly more challenging in the updated version.*
The Nano bots are *still broken in terms of rendering, sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't... :(*
Updates
The game will say *FAILURE even if you *WIN, oops... [Fixed?]*
DON'T full screen the game, or you won't be able to see things properly! [Fixed] *
*rip proper resolution :( [Fixed]
The music will break if you die and restart - this will be *FIXED soon :D [Fixed]**
I completed everything for this game alone and during the jam!
I'm a programmer, but I also made the art and music :D
This is my 6th actual completed Ludum Dare game, but only my second that I've made completely alone!
Go easy on me (;
My main goal for this game was to go for the compo, but I ended up starting late so here we are \o/.
In this Card Based - Tower Defense game you must create Nano Bots to eat the munchies for you.
Otherwise you'll overload on calories and lose :(

How to Play
Click on a ground tile to use the top card drawn from your deck!
Stop all the food from reaching the right side of the screen by building a path and then defending it!
The game will end if your Calorie Count reaches 0 (lose...) or the timer runs out (win!!!)
You can swap your current (largest) card with the secondary (smaller) cards :)
Phase One: Build
Use your build deck to create a successful path across the board. Your build deck has unlimited reshuffles, so build your heart out.
A path can NEVER be deleted, but it can be OVERWRITTEN!
Phase Two: Defend
Use your defend deck to build Nano Towers that will eat the munchies for you!
A tower can face North, East, South or West and can eat munchies up to one block away.
Your build deck has a limited supply! So don't build them all at once.
Nano Towers can only be build on empty ground with no paths!

The level would have ended if your calorie count (top left, so it might not have been visible) reaches 0 (you lost...), or if the timer finished (win, yay!).
I'm not sure what's going on with the music, it sounded normal for me?
I think you combined the genres well, though! It was never a doubt in my mind that it was a card-based tower defense game, which is really awesome, considering how tough this theme was!
And the donuts and pies! So so so cute! I'd pay for stationary in this theme. :) Great entry!
The graphics is sweet, but the mood could be improved by having sound effects, and not (mostly) only the music. It also seems that the cookies can be partially diverted by having multiple possible routes, this wasn't clear to me in the beginning. I guess this is part of the design, to make it less difficult to finish?
Dpendign on RNG constantly click-selectign different tiles can get annoying in phase 1,
I really liked the pipe dream part, it was really fun and nostalgic!
Now the second part I didn't get. The nano bots would appear at random positions that I could not change and even though I *managed* to keep the food out of the way. It said "you failed" followed by "you beat the munchies". Also, when I was first building the pipe dream I failed, so when it restarted the soundtrack was playing twice! My maze was so elusive food actually went back the way they came :trophy:
Nice job!
there might be a slight bug with the music overlapping each other
@emiko & @Q-ro I (think) I figured out the music issue, so I'll fix that tomorrow! @Dekobii was right the first time!
@mshopf Yes, the thought was that you can make the path more complicated so the munchies can't reach the end as easily!
@radow Building out a maze like path can be really fun. I originally had the pieces always checking directions in order [top->left] so it was SO predictable. I set out to choose a custom ordering each time, but then I had to keep track of which directions were already used before so the munchies didn't backtrack TOO much. Although it doesn't seem to work properly 5% of the time and they end up looping. I think it's a bug in the neighbor detection actually :(
@Tikikala There's definitely a bug that causes the munchies to loop on certain layouts. Although I haven't looked yet, as I said, I suspect its the neighbor detection code. You likely survived the game, even though it's mean and will say you lost!
@gdort The second part had 4 different card types, a tower that faced in each direction. A tower will shoot the nano bots in that direction (which will hit one square away) and after 15 seconds, a tower will disappear!
@dayn9 & @AugusteTheClown and everyone so far, thanks! And thanks for trying the game out :D
The concept itself seems good to me, and maybe deserves to be exploited more… Any post-jam version planed ?
Nice job!
Music, art, programming; this is a lot for one person to complete in a handful of days! And it works! The color palette was good, and the music wasn't bad either. The
game works fine and the mechanics are fun. With a good team I'd be excited to see what you could make.
Hrm, on to business...
For this game to make sense and to understand the controls fully, you might have to thoroughly read the manual. Having more content in the realm of helping the player figure out the game, or making the interface user friendly would be the best improvement in my book. Still, with your aloneness this is great work!!
