Corrupt Space by jmswrnr

[raw]
made by jmswrnr for LD 42 (JAM)

Corrupt Space is a spooky puzzle game.

This jam's theme is Running out of space, and in this game, the environment shrinks when you're not looking :eyes:

Not only was this was my first LD, it was my first game jam ever. It was great fun and I've learned a lot! I spent a lot of the time experimenting and learning about Unity so the game doesn't last too long.

It was a solo jam and all graphics and code were created by myself during the jam.

Thanks for playing!

Very nice and well made game! Great use of Unity's lighting, and interesting spacial gameplay. Doesn't exactly match the theme of running out, but it was good.

Amazing atmosphere and beautiful graphics, liked the mechanics a lot. Felt really smart when I finally figured out what I had to do in a level. Hope you take your time to expand this game!

Love the atmosphere in this game, really cool concept. Executed really well.
You could take this idea really far. Feels like a really good story could be build in around this.

It didn't fit the theme, but the art and atmosphere are very engaging. I turned the lights out for this one. I'd love to play this game someday. This is the first time I have ever seen or noticed normal mapped pixel art. I had to find out more, so I ended up heading over to your twitch stream and watched how you did it. You were hand painting normal maps in your stream. Doing something like that never even crossed my mind. Watching you paint the normals just perplexed me more, but you did a great explanation in blender with the matcap materials. I may give it a shot some day. Good Job! Again, I hope to see this as a real game someday.

Dude, I loved this so much! It is challenging and fits the theme so well, imo, because at the end it started getting claustrophobic. Really moody, I love the stuff that shows up out of the dark from no where. Going through doors is always surprising as well. Fantastic work, keep it up man!

Short but very well made. I dig the art and the atmosphere, genuinely got unsettled by how claustrophobic it got in the second room. I'd be down to play a full game made out of this.

I can't believe it's your first jam ! The idea is very good, and there really is a nice little mechanic. I really felt like I was running out of time. So bad you didn't have time to go farther, this is short but this is without fail.
Good job !

I really liked the game, I did not really understand the logic work at first, but then I realized it immediately became interesting to play. I was a little alarmed by the appearing hand and I wanted to give five to her. = 3 good graphics.

Awesome game! I really liked how creepy it was. Took me a bit to figure things out, but I really like the mechanic of behavior based on where the light is shining. Great job! It was my first jam too, so I appreciate the effort you made.

I didn't understood how your game works..
I was in the room, and pressing the button did nothing :/
What am i doing wrong ?

PS: Oh okay i just found out that you need to keep seeing backward to unlock the door.
Nice little game with a lot of mood !

Very well done! I thought I was stuck at the end cause the disco stuff seemed to have glitched, so I thought your twitter handle was a clue to a puzzle I couldn't figure out. Unless I'm wrong and that wasn't the end of the game. Either way, you have some great ideas in there!

The disco got me good, that made me jump irl.

I'm usually pretty resistant to horror atmospheres but there were multiple things that got me. I'm not gonna spoil them, but the background ambience and overall mood were really exquisite. Like holy shmolies, I don't think a 2D horror game has ever made me feel this jumpy. Amazing work!

Outstanding entry! I loved the pixel art so much. I think a little explanation of having to look in one direction while doing an action would have helped a lot with the rest of the gameplay as that took a long time to figure out. Thanks for sharing your game on my stream!

Wow. Nice work! Very lovely pixel art and style throughout. It's quite an interesting puzzle mechanic, I can see this turning into a really cool game.

I loved the art and gameplay. I felt like there wasn't enough feedback as to how the button and the door and the light were connected, but I was able to solve that puzzle without actually fully understanding it. The puzzle in the underground area where with the moving weight made it much clearer.

Great graphics and mood is top notch. Feels like it could use a couple of levels more to reinforce the "running out of space" theme though. Great job for a first jam!

I just fell in love with the art. That combination of pixel art with real time light shading is just perfect and so unique.

The gameplay is great, a bit confusing and it didn't fit the theme but it was great nonetheless.

Amazing job overall!

Great atmosphere, the game is a little bit to short (because we want to see more of it which is a good sign), graphics are simples but they do the work, I got scared few times so well played, the gameplay with the light is smartly used. Yeah once again, i definitely would enjoyed more of it, i hope you will continue ^^

Finally got around to playing your game! Loved it. You really nailed the mood, and I especially liked the tiny room with the writing on the wall before falling down, it just kept changing as I moved my torch around and the audio really helped sell it too. Only sad it wasn't a longer game! Was a little confused at the beginning but figured it out eventually. I usually write fairly long comments to make sure I cover everything that crossed my mind, but I really don't have any nitpicks on this one. Good job!

This game sent shivers across my skin. Reminded me of PT. I was kind of stuck in an eternal loop, button press did not seem to do anything. I love the lighting model, i always wanted to do something like that. Is it a unity built in feature, or are you using anything else? A separate tool to create a normal map? In any case, a really cool entry!

Loved the atmosphere. I saw parts of your stream of the development of this game and it was definitely interesting. Love the lighting and great pixel art, to bad you didn't really have time to develop more levels, but the spookyness is great.
