Tunnel Ride by Xyntell

[raw]
made by Xyntell for LD 42 (COMPO)

A relatively fast-paced game with minimalistic graphics and some fun... I guess. :D

In the game, you are a white cube with a gun. Red cubes are spawning and you have to shoot them to gather points and to avoid them so you don't end up dragged in the spikes at the bottom. The catch is that the room you are in is shrinking until it becomes like a small tunnel, hence the "Running out of space" theme of the jam.

I Loved The game! The idea is amazing!! I think that a bit of soundtrack would be amazing though.
keep up the good work!

Love this movement and shrinking space. The rush feeling when in tunnel is really awesome :) Good job!

Suck you right in this one. I had some issues with strafing to the sides at one point (it wouldn't), I think I might have been stuck in the side of a wall. Otherwise simple and challenging game fitting the theme nicely.

I liked it! Score wasn't displaying while playing though? Bugs are annoying 😂. Hope this game does well for you!

Thank you guys for the feedback!

@sdrrv I know that a soundtrack would be nice, but I really suck at it and rather than making something bad, well...

@listonos I don't really know what could be the problem there, and I really wish I knew. :)

@htmichael Thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to delete a line of code after some refactoring. :D

Very nice idea! Has the potential to get myself addicted to it, and spending way more time playing it, than i should.
A soundtrack would be nice though and screenshake is a bit to much for my taste.
Keep up the good work!

Enjoyable design, cheerful, good work. But there is a small minus - when it takes about 15 seconds, game becomes endless.

This game is really cool, i had some issues moving left and right at some points but overall it was pretty neat!

Great Work!

I like it! However, I feel as if there definitely should be some sort of consequence for when an enemy reaches the bottom of the screen

Actually enjoyed that quite a bit, Though the sounds did start to get distracting, And maybe in the future tone down the level shake when you get a hit, Its a good addition but too strong in my opinion!

Great game!

I like the game, but it is really easy to cheese. All you have to do to go infinitely is cling to the right side and shoot directly up, only reason I died is I got bored. I found this cheese on my first playthrough as well and got: http://prntscr.com/khsgvw

Cool game. Got 109. Took a short while before I realized it _wasn't_ just a remake of a classic but the walls are actually caving in. Nice touch. :)

This game fits the theme very well. It is quite fun at fist but then it become a clicker game. Pretty good idea I must admit :) I would love a mechanic where you could get some upgraded weapon that would spawn near the spikes for some additional challenge but this is really good I really enjoyed trying out different tactics. I 69 score on my first run. Good Job!

Good polished game, nice overall game-feel. The game could really use a soundtrack though.
Might just be on my computer but the movement got glitchy after a while or maybe that is intended.

Nice idea :) but the shooting sprite should stop to the first impact, because the damage is only dealt to the first square hitten. Also there is a bug that make you stick a wall.

Nice game! The controls are slick and the shooting is satisfying. As the walls cave in it gets very stressful, but in a good way :) Got 95!

I belive the concept wasn't so great because we almost just have to click fast enought to survive so the gameplay itself isn't very interesting but except that, the art, sound and controls are quite simple and very effective.

I think there's a bug where you can't leave the wall for a second. Other than that, I think the controls are a little clunky, the screen shake is a bit much, and that it could use some polish, but overall not bad.

Really liked the concept and the game works like a charm. In my opinion the graphics could be improved and the game lacked a soundtrack, however it was a nice experience even without these elements.

I do not like that this game devolves into a clicker after x amount of time. I could theoretically sit here and clik for hourst and get thousands in high score. My top is 201 and after that i got bored. But it's pretty good overall
The audio is also really loud for me and not enjoyable when i click too fast. It cuts off before it can even start

The screenshake when you shoot makes the gun feel really forceful. I love it. It's a simple game but you polished the heck out of it. Nice one!

12. Aug 2018 · 23:22 UTC
Cool idea, but there's no way to lose if you click fast enough. I stopped at 300 and don't think I would've died, since nothing stops the game except for me reaching the bottom

The game feels really nice, and this is one of the most "complete" interpretations of the theme I've seen! I like how the game has multiple stages to it, where at first the walls start closing in then the player slows down. My biggest problem with the game is that you have to press the mouse button every time you want to shoot. But overall, what this game does it does very well! 😄

Overall great game, the sound and looks are dope, the only thing I "dislike" is that the side walls don't really have a purpose. As long as you shoot up, you stay alive. You could try speeding up the game if you let a block hit the spikes, because as it is now, this game seems more like a "how fast can you click game".

With some tweaking this could be an amazing minigame :D

Very satisfying and well executed game play, with Graphics that are simple yet effective. I'll skip pointing out bugs, as others have already exposed all that I noticed. I had a good time with this one, but despite the polish and enjoyable game play, this game felt lacking in innovation.

The graphics are nice and simplistic and the sounds are rudimentary, but fitting. As mentioned already, you can survive forever if you just shoot straight up, but with some tweaking this could be a pretty interesting game!

I wish there was an auto-fire command because my hand hurts really easily. It would help with accessiblity. Other than that, good job

It felt odd that, as the walls grew closer, it was easier to rack up your score. I also would have preferred being able to hold click to shoot at a consistent rate, rather than having to spam it. That said, visuals, sounds and movement all felt good and the theme was pretty well adhered to.

I like this, and really impressed you had time to mess with a high score, even if it's just local. The graphics are simple, but non-offensive and the sounds a top notch. The only nagging thing is that there really isn't any reason to not always be shooting, so by the time the tunnel is closed down it's just a game of how long my hand can take the punishment of rapid clicking.

That was really great! I loved the effect of the walls closing in on you and becoming a tunnel. The screen shake was nice to give the shots more weight, although it did start making me dizzy the longer I played. Nice, simple, great use of the theme. Good job!

The design is pretty minimal but the menu as well as the shooting and damaging graphics were executed pretty well. However for the gameplay, you don't actually need to shoot until the walls have almost fully closed in, and then once they do you just click as fast as possible. With an extra mechanic like not being allowed to touch the reds, the gameplay could probably be much better. Still a good job though.

Fun and addicting game but I find it kinda disappointing you need to spam click to shoot. I wrote a short autoclicker and it felt a _lot_ nicer to me. You can focus on the aiming and moving rather than breaking your hands and mouse by clicking 100 times a second :)

Not bad, the screen shake was pretty cool, but it might be better if the enemies and player weren't just boxes tho. Having cool art may attract more people to the game.

Thanks to your game, i realized, what was missing in mine and that was screenshake. But the game was like clicker at the end, I had score of 200 but there was no challenge after some time. but nice game for LD

Fun shooter, like the screenshakes and quick bullet firing effects. Had a bit of issue moving. If the player gets next to the wall it gets stuck, and it's very random that you'll get off the wall.
