Chase the debt by Pierre Cudennec

[raw]
made by Pierre Cudennec for LD 44 (JAM)

Help Steve pay his student load debt by affecting the stage and helping him get to te end of the level.

Don't worry, as a college student Steve has learned to run jump, turn around and wall jump. So you should have no problem guiding him to the end of the level.

ChaseTheDebt-Pic2.png ChaseTheDebt-Pic1.png Note: I intend to continue working on this game (as it needs it) so any and all reviews, comments, bugs, etc is greatly appreciated.

Change Log (changes made after submission deadline): - added jump sound effect - fixed bugs - improved level selection after completing level 6

Very interesting idea and good use of the theme ! The fact that you can only activate and desactivate the blocks depending on their color is very interesting ! At first the game is easy but the last level is very hard. After finishig it I went automatically in the tutorial, making the game unfinishable, although it does't affect the gameplay. I guess that the poor Steve will die over and over now... It was fun, maybe you can continue developping it and polish it, it would be interesting to see what you can get !

Good concept and well-made levels. Randomizing the colors of the platforms works nicely. That's kinda interesting:)

Really interesting concept, and quite fun too!

Things I liked:
- Color switching mechanic
- Simple one-button gameplay
- Main menu design

Things that could be improved:
- Sounds effects - the lack of sounds effects really made the game feel somewhat empty, adding even just a few sounds for would make it so much better.
- Main menu - though I really liked the way the character runs near the button, I think adding some kind of animation to the buttons themselves would make it feel more responsive.

Overall I think it's a great idea, and I'm glad you'll continue developing it, as it could make for a really fun game.

@myrmyxo thanks for playing the game. As for the problem you experienced , thank you for reporting it, I fixed it and it should work now. You can continue playing after the last level.
You replay the levels with additional obstacles.

I think you have a problem with your download link. Or rather, the lack of the download link :)

I can get as far as the Itch page and then nothing.

Fun game, some collision issues. One of the later levels had some sort of problem where the screen would freeze requiring you to press space to get it "going" again, which lead to some deaths. The randomizing which platform colors there were was kind of cool. Would have liked to play more but I ran out of debt. (SPOILERS) I got to the flipped level, that was cool.

Very interesting concept! The connection to the theme seems like a bit of a stretch, but the core gameplay is really clever and fun.

Interesting idea, some of the level design was sketchy but I enjoyed it nonetheless
