The Tale of 3 Rulers.

This game was created in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 41 compo.

The Theme: 3 rul........

combine 2 incompatible genres :|

It was my first time participating in the jam, and it was both very frustrating and fun. I restarted the game three times, unable to pick an idea that was any good thanks to the theme. I ended up creating a game largely based on my idea for a not chosen theme, 3 rules. I ended up creating that game, and added tiny questions in between to add an incompatible genre to my puzzle platformer.

You can find the source code for the game below.

Controls:

Click buttons with mouse Restart a level with the R key Move around via WASD or arrow keys Shift between different rulers using the numbers 1, 2, and 3. 1 refers to the tallest ruler, 2 refers to the medium ruler, and 3 refers to the smallest ruler.

I liked the concept you started to create and would love to see more of this developed. The game-play felt similar to "Thomas Was Alone". Good submission!

Nice game! It reminds me of Thomas Was Alone =) Would be great to have better jump response.

Ha nice puzzle! Like the play on 'rulers' - the mix of themes, perhaps a bit of a stretch ;)

A bit of sound would go a long way to add some mood: just jumpy/collision/success sounds help a lot.

I thought rulers would be historical rulers. I think the theme could have been tied in better but I do like your efforts spaceface! I love the art style and the bouncy feel the game has to it. The controls and camera work is well done also.

Like the concept but the collision and jumping are a little wonky. I would love to see a polished version of this game. You could create some really cool levels with this concept. Good job.

Great concept regarding a puzzle platformer. I enjoyed figuring out how to get through the different levels, but I did find the controls and collisions a bit wonky. Because of the way that brushing against the sides of platforms causes jumps to halt I had trouble figuring out how high the different rulers could jump, and it took me a while to figure out that they cannot jump the same amount. I really like the idea of switching between the three characters to solve the puzzle. I also did not hear any audio, and i think that your game could have benefited from just some simple sound effects when jumping and switching characters. Fantastic art style, I think that it works perfectly. this is a great first entry to Ludum Dare, I hope that you keep going and making these awesome games.
