The Legend of the Bikini Armor by Sun-Wukong

[raw]
made by Sun-Wukong for LD 40 (JAM)

Play as young and ambitious female warrior who have a slight problem - she can't find any armor that would fit her due to her enormous proportions of the upper body part. So she sets on a quest to find the Legendary Bikini Armor said to perfectly fit anyone who wears it and giving highest protection despite it's looks. And now she arrives at a remote town where legends told Bikini Armor was sold. To find out if legend was just a legend or is it really exists.

In this game you can fight armored or unarmored. Armor gives you some protection but reduces your speed, jumps and attack power. Though without armor you die from one hit. Enemy attacks can destroy your armor.

The game is largely unfinished due to unexpected technical problems, sorry about it.

Come to think of it, this is my first ever platformer game. Never done the most basic genre before so this time I tried to make something fast simple. Unfortunately just a day before LD started my wacom tablet started malfunctioning(turning off and on spontaniously) and I didn't manage to fix it in time(I still don't know if it fixable) so this sudden problem slowed me 2-3 times. No surprise that I didn't make it in time even for Jam entry. The game is vastly unfinished alas. To the point that there is a whole set of heavy armor animations left unused: bikinicharha_idle.png So it is almost no content in jam version of the game. Also complete lack of sound. Well, post-jam devving is waiting for me.

Daaamn, those animations, you would've killed the compo. Kinda want to go back to all the previous games I thought had good graphics and downgrade them.

Gameplay was fluid, though I kinda feel like doing it with the base armor would be impossible. Loved the witty dialogues at the beginning. I accidentally clicked away the chest text after finding it, using arrow keys for that was kinda unfortunate. I also got text once when entering the cave and was immediately sent back to the village, though I also clicked that away accidentally, so I can't say what it said.

Shame about the content, but I feel the gameplay and the animations were a large step up from Tesla Defense.

@captaindreamcast, thanks as always.

But Tesla Defence wasn't my first LD game? I still think that my very first ld game Cat-O-Pult is the best I've made so far, next will be Petit Adventure.

Although the idea of more armor slowing you down is a cool one, the game didn't need to be so sexist.

### Are you trying to lure us with boobs?!
because it obviously works... ^^
Also unfinished the theme of the game, as I understood, was more armor = bad, and who'd disagree on that
You have some nice artwork going there, too bad you lost so much time :(

Yay! Boobs <3
Loved the art style and the art over all, the cinematic was good too.
Good look and feel set in the game and great idle animation ;)
Although the level art it self looks very blank having only the same texture everywhere :/
And not much in the LD.
But overall I had fun and all the best :)
Pls feel free to play and rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/split

10/10 There's tits.

Seriously though that's some awesome artwork! For an unfinished game it's pretty well visually polished.

Aw ya, **lewd**um dare entry.

It's hard to give an accurate review of gameplay due to only one playable level (I think?). Combat was simple but served its purpose. Town and girlie art was some good shiet, I just wish there was a full gameplay loop with another set of armor.

Wanna make a good game? The recipt is simple: (1) take a classic platformer mechanics, (2) add a pair of boobs with destructable armor, (3) ???????, (4) PROFIT!!!!!

Pure and simple gameplay and amazing graphics! I'm looking forward to play post-jam version.

Hi man! First I want to say : you should feel bad about drawing this kind of characters in 2017. You should have spent more time giving a good gamefeel to your gameplay than poorly animating a character that is nothing near a human being and writing this poor story. Game Jams and the entire indie community should be about making games that give something else than the regular AAA bullshit. When I see this I understand why so many people still see the video game community as a bunch of terrible people. Have a nice day!

The illustrations were nice and polished, and the intro part played out well (although I found it to be a bit too much reading!). Unfortunately I got stuck and couldn't move past the first dungeon. Amusing concept though!

The idea behind this and you actually going ahead with it really puts the "dare" in ludum dare, especially looking at some of the comments here. Shame about the issues, I'd have love to see what you were planning with this.

This is a great game. The animation is fluid and boobtastic. I want more really is probably the best way to put how I feel about this game. Music would be cool, but this has lot's of potential.

Good mood and art (specially the animations) but the gameplay and the design is really poor and not really interesting, it got boring pretty quick.

Waiting to see your post-ludum entry :)

Funny story (although the English could do with some work) and fantastic artwork. It's a shame you ran into problems, it would be great to see where the game went after this. The platforming seemed solid, it was just lacking the polish that time would give you. Great work.

Yes, I know the text is awful, it was written around 4 A.M. after a whole day of intence work while desperately struggling with sleepness. This shows my actual English level though, I think.
06. Dec 2017 · 14:30 UTC
@drury there's exactly two comments that aren't overly posivitve about the representation of the female character and sexism is still accepted by a majority so there's noting risqué about this "daring" ludum dare entry.

I really like the risk reward mechanic with the armour. Enemy fighting platformer isn't the most innovative BUT the character design definitely is, and the *graphics* were very nice, haha

The animations are really well done, really. The gameplay feels unpolished, but has potential with the armor mechanic, only needs some extra work with the attacks. Nice job!

Amazing hand drawn graphics. It's nice to see something not-pixel art sometimes. The animations are boobs, I mean, are a bit lacking IMO, but for the time you had to work on the game it was pretty good. I finished the fist level but "the princess was in another castle". Wasn't sure what to do next. :P
Good entry

I've always been tempted to try using GODOT for a 2D game. The gameplay feels pretty solid once your armor is gone. It seems like you do more damage as well as move faster. I think it might have been nice if she had a shield or something with the heavy armor so it was more viable.

The game did not work. The enemies appeared and disappeared, glitching around randomly and there was no way to progress through the cave. I came upon a wall that could not be jumped over and was unable to continue progressing.

The art is great and all, but try to have a minimum viable product before focusing on graphics.

I don't know if the bugs are just me or not, so please reply if I am being stupid :D

@turbulentwinds, you are the first one to report technical problems actually. Maybe you are using Mac or Linux build? If so, I have no means to check them and don't know if they are properly working, sorry.

@turbulentwinds, That's weird, nobody had problems with Windows build yet. Maybe you have outdated OpenGL drivers? Godot engine should run normally on pretty old hardware with old enough drivers but I did encounter one laptop that had reeeeally old drivers and there were problems on it.

Looks great! I love the take on the theme. My first two times I just tried to not get hit, and I died. My third time, I just handed my armor to the first rat I cam across, and then smoothly danced my way to the goal. Definitely worse having more.

Hah! The humor on this one is just great, and I loved the characters. The art is also very special, so overall, this game has a fantastic presentation. It's a shame that there's a lack of content and sound though. But well, it's a Jam. Some things can't be helped, and the thing you made here is a fantastic foundation.

Do work a bit on the gameplay department though. While solid and functional, moving around and mashing the spacebar gets dull very fast. Do consider how to spice things up if you decide to continue working on this later down the road.

Still, I liked this entry. Very cheeky humor and cool animations. [Our team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) would like to see this one lift off. Cheers! :whale:

Hello fellow Godot user!
I like the concept a lot, funny and has a lot of room for creativity. Of course, like you said, the game is very unfinished right now:
Sword sometimes glitches and stays stuck in midair. It's almost impossible to not take a hit when wearing armor since it takes two hits to kill an enemy; I tended to get a lot farther when I didn't have armor. I like @ursagames suggestion of having a shield when you wear armor.

Animations and art are great, but it's very unfinished on the gameplay front. I do HIGHLY suggest working on this more and turning it into a full-length game. This seems like exactly the kind of game that would explode on Youtube if it was fully fleshed out (heh).

Also, ignore Tabass.

The animations and art style was really impressive for the jam. my only suggestions for improvement would smoother controls to make the action feel a bit more fluid. I can tell with more time this could be a nice little action game.

The art, especially animations, were very well done. The game felt a bit clunky though & combat was really hard. As for the story (based on the occasional comment being upset about the games story) it's your choice to make whatever game you want, and looking back at your past entries it's not like you have a history of insulting specific groups of people. With that stated it had a good sense of humour, all the way down the conveyor belt of armour the smith'd keep giving you. I really liked this entry and would totally love to see it worked on further!

Graphics/animations are well done good
Missing any input instructions - mostly figured out how to make work by button mashing until something happens.
Not sure if controller input was expected to work, but I found a few spots that didn't work.
Lack of audio hurts the game some.
after loosing the armor, it would have been nice if the shirt worked even when falling. Not sure why a few people had an issue with the character. I have known people with similar physiques... mine they would wear something more supportive then what is in the art.
The wide stance... and standing off the edge of stuff is odd - I can get my character's center of mass well off the edge of stuff... but her one foot is still there.
game seems to be stuck in a loop of the armor shop and the one map. not sure if that was expected or not.

The luring is good xD, the graphics are okay but I would love at least some music between scenes. I really liked the dialogs and specially the reference to Super Mario Bros.

Please, *do not* convert this game in some sort of Manyuu Hikenchou, despite she having a nice body, I do not get the feel this game matches the theme of this Ludum Dare.

The game is quite strong in the graphics and humor department (your choice of design notwithstanding). I enjoyed the fact that there is controller support.

Controls could be a bit tighter, look up "Coyote Time". Also, in jump and run games like this it is usually better to not use "up" for jumping. Assigning a jump key to the hand that is not running is generally more ergonomic. In one instance, I was able to get myself stuck in an area where I couldn't make two-block jumps because I still had my armor on and there were no rats left to get hit.

It's a shame really that you didn't get to finish the game. It's a pretty cool starting point to make something greater. Adding sound effects and music will do wonders to the game and with snappier controls I believe it could become quite popular on Newgrounds or a similar platform.
