Be Yourself by Noa Calice
The rules are VERY simple : rotate your character with the left and right arrow keys... and at all costs, avoid having squishy looking black slimes stick to you. Because the more you have glued to your character, THE WORST THINGS GET !!!
You can of course use the golden slimes to DESTROY black ones...
The message in this little game is to always be ourselves, to not let society, opinions and judgements warp who we truly are !
The game includes character customization !

A rather deep message...

And fast paced, reflex based gameplay !!

The intro is freaking awesome with the cards aesthetics! 5/5 :D
Really well executed and a cool art style that reminds me of World of Goo, Gish (and other McMillen art).
It's pretty hard, maybe it is nice to have a short speed up time at the beginning of a spin for more precise control.
But I got 76, fun gameplay, well executed
It's nice to see someone attempt a bit more 'deep'/'meaningful' during LD
The music, shuch as it is, was ... distracting, I mean, I get that it's probably the _point_, given the message, but still.
The comic was nicely done, altough in my present post LD-state, I sat there for about half a minute before I realized I was supposed to click through
However the polish from the intro, rules, main menu, about me, are all great. And solid truthful message, good work!
I don't think it ramps up too quickly, given that it scales with how many of the baddies are attached to you. It makes coming back from a few mistakes an interesting struggle and it had me on my toes quite often, but never felt unfair.
Also, of course the graphics are gorgeous.
I also like how you attached an interesting message to your game. All in all, cool stuff!
If you ever work more on the game more slimes with different characteristics would be great
Awful sound all around lol but cool gameplay and use of the theme. :)
Any chance you'll make a windows build?
Anyways, my Compo game is over here, if you want to have a look. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000
I love the Edmund Mcmillen vibe in the arts!
And really fun! My High Score is 35 :D
And so polish for a Compo game
Great job!
The sounds are very good and the graphics are great! Congratulations!
The art style and sound effects are really cute. Great job, I can just imagine what you could've done with more time (power ups, fine tuning controls etc.)
Audio needs improvement though..
Overall, nice graphic and concept though :)
Pros:
- I love the fact that you can pick a character even though it has no bearing on the gameplay. Its just so fitting for this game
- The best kind of mix of "personal and artistic" and "video-gamey"
- Addictive (I could see this selling well on tablets and mobile.
Cons:
- Maybe make it a bit more obvious when the black gooey goes go into those holes? I did not understand at first when they were sticking. Just an animation would be nice.
Keep up the good work!
Mechanically, it plays nicely, although the difficulty curve seems to go up way too quickly. After about 20, the spawn rate just gets nuts. Maybe, the safe/destroy areas could be bigger at first and gradually shrink as it goes on? I could also be a bit more zoomed out, as I felt I had very little time to react, which might be by design, but I just felt a little more space would still pose a reasonable challenge.
But considering this was actually done in 24 hours, this's really well polished.
Regarding the mechanics the game is a bit unbalanced because the screen is rectangular so when a ball comes from the up/down axis it's way harder to react then if it comes from left/right. Maybe if the screen was square it would be a bitt better (or just the balls come from a circle around the player).
The menu music was actually pretty cool, but the in game music was repetitive very quickly and the sfx of the balls could be annoying sometimes especially some times in end game where it would make loop the sound for a few second.
I think the game could use a bit more feedback and/or mechanics (if you intend to continue working on it that is).
This kind of gameplay isn't really my thing but overall it was a really cool game, nice job !

That's fantastic. And it's implemented through gameplay in a very original way. The message in our game is pretty much the same, but applied to a concrete case ;) I bet you'd like it.
