Power Insufficient by theoddpotion

[raw]
made by theoddpotion for LD 39 (COMPO)

Have you ever wanted to control a galactic civilization!? Now you can!

Please read the README. lol It will help a lot.

EDIT: It seems that I have forgotten to add a quit button to the main menu. I had originally planned on returning to the title screen when the player presses the ESC button where they could then quit the game by button, however I am a goof and such is life. You CAN quit the game on the game over screen, though, so just send a bunch of Mother Ships to really far away stars and it should decrease your energy bar quickly and cause game over condition. I will definitely release a post-compo version if anyone is interested.

FUN FACTS: - There are OVER 3000 stars in the game. Each are diffierent in color, size and amount of energy! - Yes, that is my voice. I'm open to voice over jobs! xD

Nice, I like the concept. I think the skybox should be less noisy (less stars, maybe a distance galaxy or something). As it is it can hard to make out some of the planets you can click on. Maybe speed up the travel times as well? Otherwise, good job and good voice acting :P

Haha Wow!!
This was totally unexpected.

This was something completely new. Bookmarked your code :P Would study it.

Really beautiful game you got here. Your voice makes it 1000x better :P
But seriously. Nicely executed. Would play it again! :)

This is reaaally good. I like these kind of games. One minor detail: the background is killing my eyes, it should be mostly black. But the gameplay is very good, this one had me playing a long time.

5/5 from me.

This is an interesting start to a set of systems. I like the general concept, and the aesthetic. It just needs more...stuff.

I find the stars you can interact with difficult to make out against the background, but maybe that's the point.

Is it just because I'm red/green colourblind that I find the power meter impossible to read?

Needs Music!

Needs an objective of some kind!

I really like the concept, and the 3D-effect is really cool. It's unfortunate though that you didn't dim the background. This is really disorienting to play and I actually got dizzy a bit.

The voice-work is great. It seems you went for a Starcraft/Warcraft-approach and it's pretty funny. Missing some kind of background music though.

The gameplay is nice, but the UI is really small. I also found it hard to click on the planets sometimes. You might want to give them bigger colliders, so you don't have to click exactly on them.

Ultimately I couldn't play this for a long time though because of the background. I think I still see the pattern before my eyes. You really need to tone that down. It might give someone senstive a headache.

It's a cool game nonetheless.

I'm a big fan of anything space related so **props** for that. Art is simple, I like the whole resource management of either harvesting or inhabiting and the map feels so huge. This is a great start for whole world of possibilities. You can definitely expand on this game.

Great Job!

Cool game with a mechanic I haven't seen yet.

Really good. There isn't anything I can't really say that's wrong with it other than what everyone else has said and that the skybox should be less noisy and more of a solid black.

I like this game a lot, I just want to expand more :)

Maybe some more info on how much they bring back each trip would be nice at the start (or did I miss something?)

Nice voiceovers!

The concept is really interesting, but I think there is a (little) lake of balance, as the game begin really slow. It's also hard to read with all this stars !
But still a cool game.

That's a lot of depth for a compo game! Nice. My third attempt got me to colonise nine planets, but then I overstretched. In my defence, I think half of my ships stopped to get a burger.
A few graphical tweaks wouldn't have gone amiss, but overall a great entry!

I had a lot of fun playing this! The camera is good but since the game was fun I wanted to be able to view a bit easier. At first I thought the zoom did not work, but it does... it's just too subtle and slow. I'd like to see a more responsive and quick zoom.

At first I did not read the readme but I still got the hang of it a little. Then I read the readme and had even more fun.

Great work :)

Concept is really promising. I like the "depth effect", it is an awesome work. The game is a little bit slow and the background is too noisy, but except that, it is a really cool and interesting game.
