the shitty shooter by Peterr

How come

My first entry and my first kinda finished game in a long time. Basically, just a shitty shooter. Enemies don't despawn when killed, so you're running out of space! Please enjoy and thank you for letting me waste your time.

Play in the browser

Play the shitty shooter directly in your browser thank's to the absolutely not shitty itch.io

Thank you for playing. Please leave a rating.

How to play

ship.png Move your ship with WASD. Use the mouse to shoot.

egg.png Interdimensional eggs will spawn aliens. These eggs are interdimensional and cannot be messed with.

alien.pngDon't let them get you. They will lay interdimensional eggs after some time.

I did this

I created all the pixels, all the sounds and all the code. Things I used:

  • Phaser
  • Javascript
  • bfxr for the sounds
  • Pixen for the pixelmess
  • Webstorm for coding
  • webpack and yarn and such for packing and building and things
  • Affinity Designer for the shitty cover image

What went well

I did finish and submit my first game to a game jam. I actually finished this thing. It has a start, a playable part and an end. Usually I loose interest and chicken out, when I have my basic interactions going. The "art" is pretty shitty, but I don't hate it.

What went not so well

I decided to participate half an hour before ludum dare startet. I had other stuff to do this weekend. And even when I had time to work on the project, it was quite hard to remain focused during the day.

I startet playing with rytimik studio for some music, but I hated what I came up with. So there's no music. A happy little accident.

Love the movement, very bouncy and smooth, the retro sounds sound really nice, though I wish you could 'dispose' of the alien bodies

Fun little "shitty" game you got there. For just a few hours of work, I'd say you accomplished quite a lot! The controls are smooth and I enjoyed the sound effects. It's certainly nothing I haven't played before, but, anyone that can publish a game in under 48 hours has gotta be doing something right. Great job!

I had a similar core idea of a shooter with an area that shrunk while you played, but I think the way you implemented that with the corpses of your enemies creating obstructions was much more interesting. The game itself function pretty well but could use some more work to flesh out your ideas and make the game more exciting. The fact that you made this without having your whole weekend free is very impressive, but the strong core idea could have used more time to work out.

Overall, shows great promise, I look forward to seeing what you create in the future!
