Snake Jam by Icek00l

[raw]
made by Icek00l for LD 40 (JAM)

Our First game for any kind of competition very little practice with Game Maker Studio.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to limitation with knowledge on how to export game maker files properly, the game has only been exported into a portable work file. Therefore the game will only run in Game Maker Studio for Steam and above versions. I will fix this as soon as possible if permitted, and I am sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE 2: I have uploaded the game file with all it needs to run, including currently unused game assets, Just download the folder and run the .exe file.

You press R to Restart, W, A, S, D to move SPACE to fire

That is all for now.

We are hoping to add more to the game in our own free time as the overall concept and design of the game we still think is a good idea, just the main mechanics were never used. Like a skill system upon deaths and the ability to actually complete a level, (Sorry about that guys). Collisions and enemy AI were both giving us very hard times as we are unfamiliar with the code, however, I did have some prior experience.

I may think this passes as being called "A game" it's hardly finished and is overall very bland. You may give it a shot, but since the main mechanics are currently missing, don't get your hopes high. It's a bit bleak, but it's definitely not the best we can do and we will not give up on the project-- just for now-- it's not worth your time.

Thank you for your feedback.

The only link you have is source code? Is there a playable file or better yet an html build?

My colleague has uploaded the game and appears to have exported the game as a work file. Sorry for the inconvenience and I will fix this as soon as I can. For now I will mark the game as unfinished.
Thanks for your feedback, however. This was both of our's first attempts to create a game, and in hindsight it would have been important for us to had more practise.
I'll see what I can do.

Improve on the collision. Maybe show more of the keys in the game? Make a killzone at the bottom of the map

@dragonfyzex Thank you for your feedback! We intend to keep working on these as our efforts go forward in our own time. Unfortunately as we are mostly inexperienced the collision it was being unexpectedly tricky. It's something we're sure to target in later practise.

Great effort on your first try! I think you guys should pick another button for jump than the 'w' key, platformers tend to avoid what would be considered the "up" key for jump.

@angrydrgn Oh, really? I see... Well, the majority of the simple platformer-like games I have played do use those schemes of controls, or instead, use space. Although in this circumstance space isn't really an option, nor is 2-handed play, as the player would need the convenience of having one hand on the mouse to select what option of stat progression they'd prefer when they die (not that the feature was ever completed). I'll see what I can do in future, however. Perhaps send me an example?
