Keys, Please! by Ellian

[raw]
made by Ellian for LD 42 (JAM)

"Keys, please!", says Valerian Parker, the new Valet at the hotel. He's in charge of parking the client's car! And it's a brand new day for him.

... hum.

keysPleaseLD42.gif

There are... a lot of clients. And that parking lot... isn’t that big.

Controls:

Keyboard - Arrow keys + Space

Gamepad - DPad + A, X and B

Park as many cars as you can before they pile up! Make sure to not damage the cars... too much.

Warning! it's possible to break the collision system and crash the game if you push multiple elements against each other too much.

Really cool game fun, funny and gorgeous.

Music and arts are cool, gameplay is good (the 8 direction is ideal for a game like this).

It would be great if at the end we could see the state of our parking (in game it's hard to see all).

I earned 760$ on my second attempt (first one was negative...)

I love the idea! The art, music, and overall mood really help support the idea and gave the game a such a great charm to it. I think the only thing that felt weird was the controls? I think you are doing it based off the direction the car is facing but it might be better to just do it based on world directions instead since the map doesn't move or rotate. Really good job! Always look forward to your entries :)

This is clever and fun! Gorgeous art and style and feels good while being just frustrating enough to be great.

Absolutely fantastic in all areas! Would perhaps benefit from some sort of win state or break in the gameplay, like a day/clock system and try to beat your previous day's score.

Super fun game! The art is AMAZING, as expected from Sandy. This game has it all.
Never thought being a vallet was so hard hahaha.
Congratulations on your game!

Another parking competitor! Spectacular presentation! Phenomenal music and sounds. My only complaint is that there doesn't seem to be a lose condition. [EDIT] k spoke too soon about the lose condition. Still, it would be better if there was an indicator of sorts.

Cute, fun and funny :P. The art, mechanics, sounds/music were all amazing. It has production value polish too, such as the car vibrations, Valerian's idle pose, the multi direction rotations, detail, and level design. Well done guys, it's amazing :).

The pixel art is incredible! The music is awesome! Very good idea to fit the theme!
I just didn't really understand when and why the game ends. Maybe you can help me? But overall an awesome game !!

The game ends when the waiting line is too long (i.e. when a car is waiting off screen). Gotta park faster! :D

I attempted to repark one of the cars that was already parked in the lot when the game began and quickly gave up on that idea as I immediately smashed into one of the other cars attempting to back out of the spot. I probably enjoyed smashing the cars into each other and the edges of the parking lot too much. Very cute little game!

One of my favorite games of LD42!
Graphics and audio are beautiful. Controls were a bit difficult for the first few cars but I picked them up pretty quickly. The game was easy to pick up and I can very easily see this moving into a production-level game that I would buy.

I'll start with the first "thing" in game, the title screen / menu. Even that is well polished, the animation is a nice touch.

As for the audio part, the music is pretty fun and goes well with the game, the sounds are great too.

I found the graphics really nice, impressive for a 72h project. A great variety of sprites, good animation, different models of vehicles, "animated feedback", penalties drawn when you hit something.

The gameplay is smooth, I didn't encounter any problem, everything went smoothly (except for the poor vehicles I drove, Valérian should get new glasses :p). It's pretty entertaining, I dropped the game to a friend and we played for a while without any sign of boredom.

To save time I pushed the cones on the left to park the cars in less time but it didn't counterbalance my horrible skill.^^ I "game over"ed multiple time with negative money, I'm not fit for this job.

Nice take on the theme, unexpected concept that fits really well and is fun.

Awesome work! :)

I like the idea of this game, but I found the collision mechanics a bit too picky, to be honest. I hit cars when I wasn't visibly touching them and it wasn't entirely clear which side the driver's side was meant to be. Can you ever park the cars in the spaces *and* get out of them afterwards, or do you always have to stagger them or leave more space either side? I feel like the default spaces should at least be wide enough to get out in. Then again, no one else seems to have had a problem with it, so I could just be terrible at it

Great artwork and sound effects, though, and the tutorial was a welcome aspect.

Very polished entry! I really liked the visual style and the bounce of the animations. The music was great and despite the minimal dialogue you managed to give me a laugh with the valet's name. The gameplay was solid and worked. I will say I felt the steering was a little delayed, but other than that I can't really say I found much else wrong with this entry, although I usually don't enjoy top down driving games. Great work!

This is a great game all around. Though, is there a way to beat it or advance to the "next level"? Is is it basically a high score game?

Would love to see after a while people call for their cars to be pulled out, after getting them boxed into weird spots lol.
