All what I'm thinking is:

Green Red Yellow Blue, Green Red Yellow Blue, Green Red Yellow Blue.

This game is highly remind about the stanley parable.

I'm definitely like it :)

I definitely laughed out loud when the "Meep Merp" sound effect played :D

Sick game bro!

Really enjoyable game with a nice bit of humor.
One thing I did notice is the circles collide before fully matching the outlined circles meaning you have to hit the key early?
Apart from that, good one!

The tutorial part of the game was well done!

It took me a second to get the humor of it, but made me giggle went it hit me.

Funny game. But the circle colliders seem a bit off, specifically red and yellow.

@InventorOfStuff @Ravenn Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into the collider issues.

pretty funny game. like the aptly named "frustration" level. a couple notes:

the sound effects got repetitive really fast. sometimes you'd here fascinating 3 times in a row. a couple fixes:
make it psuedo-random. if you roll the same random number twice in a row, just reroll until you get something else,
otherwise, you could make it so specific sounds play for 3,4,5, more hit combos.
additionally, making the 4 different notes have different sounds, especially different notes on the scale, would have been nice to see, er... hear

maybe instead would have been interesting to, like playing along to a song in guitar hero, have a recording of a review of the piece "i like the way this speaks to my inner self" something like that, and each word falls on some rhythm, and is related to a different 1-4 key. missing a word makes you say "uh" "hmm" or something. just a thought.

Here's my sick critique, broooooo!

It's got a great visual style for a game jam game! I did laugh to myself quite a bit when hearing the ever-so-deep critiques of the modern art. I had fun with the first few pieces, but the ones where the colours switched around were impossible for me! It could be that my brain is just scrambled from the compo this weekend. I did love the hidden level from the gallery; that would be a great challenge if I was up to it.

Agree with some of the others above more voice effects would be very much welcomed. Otherwise pretty funny even if not for long.

@ORECROS @Listonos Thanks for the feedback. I'll be completely honest, I'm not a great programmer. I didn't think I'd be able to complete this project, let alone expand on the voice acting and rhythm mechanics. I kept everything simple just for the sake of minimizing scope for the jam.

That said, if I can carve out some time, I may try tackling improvements to the reactions and rhythm game mechanics, if for no other reason than a learning exercise. Thanks for playing :D

I felt like a real modern art critic.

Gameplay leaves a lot to be desired but even so I enjoyed my short time with it.

It was an amusing mix of humor and a repetition mechanic. I liked the commentary you left with the "planet Earth" challenge. A cube? That was hilarious!

Just beat the game. Sometimes it felt like you got marked wrong arbitrarily, maybe that's because of the lack of order in the falling blocks, or the way you are scored. This was a bit annoying since the scoring is rather punishing, although that can otherwise be good - it prevents you from beating a level without mastering it.

I wonder if it would have been better to allow failing out, and in exchange lock you into the game otherwise, so you could use wasd for both moving and the rhythm game.

I don't know if it was the intended strategy, but after beating the balcony straight up, I did the other two scramble boards by placing my fingers in a way that would be more intuitive to play with - which I really liked, as a lateral puzzle element. I was hoping to find a reflection of that backwards one somewhere, but I guess flipping my keyboard worked just as well =P.

One thing I found ironically funny is that because the picture has nothing to do with the game elements, you find yourself ignoring it completely, which is actually a bit of a shame. If the game triggered from actually looking straight at the painting while standing in your place for a few seconds, maybe you could actually get more into the art-gallery element of the game.

It didn't feel very cohesive, although that made it easy to read what was going on, it also made it feel kind of like you literally jammed one game on top of another. Could have had the material on the 'statues' be marble with colored veins or something, and gone more posh with the flavor instead of rhythm game trope-y, it would have been more cohesive.

As it was, the humor and the mechanics made the game fun to play. It was odd not have any (classical?) music in it, but maybe that makes a kind of sense. It could have been confusing to hear music while playing an unrelated rhythm game.

Unlike other rhythm games, you move the order of the colored art critics. This made it hard to decipher why I was missing the notes. Adding a UI element with an indication of the key to press might have helped me recover from errors. Having the art critics arranged in different patterns was interesting, but sometimes the heights were too far apart to be able to react with a nice feel synced to the music.

I liked the concept. It felt like something out of Stanley parable or Job Simulator. If you continue working on this game I'd recommend adding random variations in the conversations with the critics and add more UI elements reemphasizing game controls.

*Postmodern!*

Seriously though, great idea. I feel like it could've used a little more "epicness" befitting a Guitar Hero game, but that would probably go against the idea.

Hmmm... Fascinating...

While I liked the humour and the graphics, I found the gameplay to be too difficult. I could never tell when exactly to hit the button, as if the collision detection was off. And the harsh penalty for my (frequent and undeserved, IMO) failure meant I could only finish one non-tutorial stage, ironically enough called "Frustration".

But maybe I just don't get it.

I went into the light and hear a beautiful soothing voice!

Clever tutorial and mix up of the controls in some of the art pieces. Sound design was on point and the humour was grade A material! Great work!

Nice level design ! The art is top notch. The voices are funny and deliver a cool mood. The sum of work is impressive for a compo. You got a new follower on itch !

It was fun unfortunately i found some of those "reverse keys" a bit annoying.

I love the premise and it was really funny at times - nice entry and great theme interpretation! :)

It was pretty hard to understand why I was failing, but eventually I did. Interesting combination of mechanics, but maybe better tutorials would have been nicer. I really like the concept of this game!
