made by Max Finch-Bretlaender for LD 42 (COMPO)

2D Side-scroll shooting with tetris inventory management.

Keep the enemies from reaching the side of the screen by using your guns, but make sure you're in the right lane when you run out of bullets, so your gun fits into your bag!

Controls

Move lanes - W/S or Up/Down

Shoot - Space or Click or Control

Game Rules

Lane Control

GunventoryLanes.gif

Your current gun will be placed into the inventory based on the lane your character is in.

Reloading

GunventoryReloading.gif

When a column is filled in the inventory, all the guns included in that line will be removed and added back into your gun count.

Scoring

GunventoryScoreSheet.PNG

Once the round timer has ended, your score will be the lane scores (which go down each time an enemy gets to the end of a lane) plus your gun count.

If you run out of guns, you'll get a game over.

When I tried this game I was pretty surprised at just how innovate and enjoyable the concept was. It seems well executed too. The screenshots definitely undersell the gameplay.

Audio (especially gun sounds) would have been nice, and could have helped to add to my engagement.

Something to work towards would have been nice as well. Maybe a progress bar at the bottom that fills as you cover distance and gives you a "good job!" screen.

Well done.

I love the idea.

I don't think I understand the column clearing system correctly. I though that I should make full rows just like in Tetris, but I had full row (or in this case column), and the guns didn't reload. Then, some guns reloaded seemingly randomly.

The idea is very innovative and fun, the game not so much unfortunately. No sounds, gets quite repetetive, and the line clearing is seemingly bugged (or I don't understand it correctly, could you please explain it?). The difficulty curve was very slow for me, it started getting challenging in the last 30 seconds.

What a shame about the audio. It would add a lot to the experience.

Very impressed with this entry! I had a terrific time playing this game, and even more as I learned how the "tetris" mechanic worked. Very wide variety of guns for such a short time. The graphics were basic and the sound was not included, but the innovation and "game feel" more than made up for those shortcomings. Looking forward to you continuing to work on this game!

Thanks all for the feedback!

I agree completely that audio would have made a huge difference. Unfortunately I ran out of time before I could get around to it.

@erasmus-crowley There is a timer that will result in a victory with a score, but I agree that progression isn't too obvious, so I could have switched it to a progress bar or something, as you suggested.

@boltkey You are right in your description of the column clearing, but I think there are a couple of bugs that I didn't come across until after the deadline; I had one block go through another at one point, so there's definitely something off!

The difficulty does not increase and it's too easy. But in principle it works. There is no sound. You cannot rotate the pieces so the tetris part is harder, but the clearing system compensates it. I like how different shapes corresponds to different guns and behaves differently.
