Now that I have had a chance to play, i've changed my rating! Really nice job creating the horror ambiance. The memes clash with it really well, which is good for the theme. I like the use of 3d audio, that is a nice touch and really brings yu into the game. I also love the style! it's almost tim-burton esque which gets me right in the nostalgia.

// The in-browser resolution was only showing about half the screen, left the game unplayable.

Visual remind me heavily of Don't Starve. Shame they are not used more as the game is mostly black. Player going around with some light source like candle, torch or lantern would be better. The light could get dimmer the closer you get to a Meme? I don't know, just throwing ideas.

Ambient lightning sound volume could be toned down. It kind of masks other important sounds and listening to these are the main game play mechanic.

Music is creepy and fitting to the Don't Starvish visuals.

I'm not much of a Meme person myself so I don't get so much out of this game probably. Just saying, that the Memes can limit the scope of target audience.

@Keppu Thankyou for your feedback and ratings! I'll keep on improving the game based on your feedback. Actually the inspiration for the game was taken from "Goosebumps!". It's an android game, do try it someday!

I watched some game play of the Goosebumps. I feel the same criticism stands for it also. They have that lovely aesthetics that you see just flash every now and then. Jump scares don't require complete darkness imho.

Feel free to expand from the original inspiration and include different ideas to your game. You don't have to make exact copy of another game. :)

i think i beat the game, i got to the part where it said some stuff about a dream and gave me a click and go option. the one thing i didnt like about this was that the girl was facing once direction even though i was going in another direction. the listening thing for the sound was a good mechanic and used very well here.

We have just started making games and are still in the learning process. This Jam was an excuse for us to learn new things. You can consider us the 'noobs' in GameDev community. But really your feedback is very motivating and we'll try our best to do better next time as well as to keep on expanding the game. Thankyou so much.

It was nice to play, tbh.
I got a little confused by the music sound + memes sounds sounding all together. The concept was cool and I wanted to finish the game overall to see what was going on.
Good job.

i wouldn't say this is on theme.. as memes aren't really a type of game. great sound though, felt as though i could navigate through without being detected.... i assume that was the point? to not get caught buy the memes? it was ok, but if there was an end goal i couldn't find it. i kinda feel like the graphics wer'nt really worth adding in, you could probably have saved some time and just left the screen blank the whole time lol.

Pretty funny! I always like when jam entries do something different with audio, or heck, even DO something with audio! Many seem to regard soundscapes something that you do if you have spare time at the end. I appreciate that you took the audio experience as front and center of you game.

Played the android version, analog stick analogue was somewhat inconvenient on my device at least. Bit too cramped in the corner, going southwest was awkwardish.

Almost pooped my pants lol. Don’t really like horror games but decided to give this one a go.

What I loved
* The memes lol
* Funny interpretation of the theme
* The overall feel, ambience & vibe

What could be improved
* The controls felt a little inconvenient
* Some directional movement was weird
* Not very clear what you’re supposed to do in the game

Thanks for sharing. I’d love for you to try out my game as well!

There were a number of memes in there I didn't recognize, which I am pretty happy with... for my own soul, that is. 😆

The primary mechanic of staying at distance from the meme audio is pretty clever and well executed, though I wasn't sure if there was also a direction to go *to*. I did finish the game when I went closer to the background music at one point, but I had tried that before with no result, so I am not sure if that was a coincidence or not.

The art is decent, but there's not a lot of it. Which makes sense given the concept, but that also makes me feel like some more time could have been spent on what is there. The Play/Next button that's used, for instance, looks hastily circled but not nicely designed, if you catch my meaning. I did notice one odd thing where moving diagonally left my footprints at different distances, one small step and one big step.

The music, rain and thunder are very atmospheric, and I very much appreciate the use of different surface sounds for the footsteps. Nice touch.

All in all an entertaining and clever concept, and a good first submission!

Hey Aditya and Chetan! I found the focus on audio very original since that's something I tend to tackle last in my games ;) Personally, I am not too familiar (or fond of) memes, so I didn't recognize anything in particular and overall the gameplay was rather simple; a bit like playing Pacman with only my ears. Nevertheless a good concept, maybe just a little rough around the edges.

29. Apr 2018 · 18:37 UTC
Even though it wasn't a "scary" game it was still atmospheric. I like the way sound is manipulated and that is well done. The scream soound was a bit hard and I think the footsteps should be a bit softer. The repetetive nature of the bck music can become a bit repeptetive at times but can be replaced with something more ambient maybe.

The game controls are good and the objective is clear. All in all - a solid entry. + Its awesome for you guys to include source code too

29. Apr 2018 · 22:19 UTC
I enjoyed the audio and the graphics here - the fading footsteps were a nice touch! I think adding in either some ambient lighting (a spooky torch or lantern) or making the lightning last longer would have been better to make out the surroundings and just be more comfortable to look at. Good job!
AnaGF
30. Apr 2018 · 12:28 UTC
That WHY ARE YOU RUNNING meme now makes a lot of sense xD

Nice entry, funny concept. I had a good laugh playing. At the end Knuckles killed me, but I will reach the source of the music someday!

I tried the Android version, at first the game froze a bit but later it worked fine. The controls are easy to learn, which is good.

If you want an idea to make it scarier, you could set a sprite for the source if the memes, that way when the lightning strikes the player wouldn't expect the meme to be so close.

Well done!

So to be honest, I felt a Little bit lost. I followed the Sound of the Music, but nothing happened. I think I spend 5 Minutes running in one direction without anything Happening. Maybe I played it wrong, though.

Anyways, I really like the mood and the use of Sound as a "compass". Really innovative. I just wish there was some other sort of confirmation on whether one runs in the right direction :)

Oh no... a screamer... stuff of my nightmares. memetastic. Nice humor, but needs a screamer warning! The 3D sounds are a nice touch, and it was very atmospheric with the sounds of footsteps and thunder. Good stuff, although not my favorite type of game!

aaaaaaaaa, the screamers tho. Nice meme bruh, meme/10

More seriously, maybe the controls could be a little more fluid or quick, as the sound position isnt obvious, at least we could explore faster.

But overall, it was pretty funny. Big points on humor for the meme (there has to be meme games at every LD, right ?)

Very nice mood, this is definitely a horror game. I don't see the theme reflected too well, but that's personal opinion. I really love seeing the footprints on the dark screen, and the idea of the flashes on screen.

I would like to see more situations when something (unexpected) happens, maybe even jump scares. Some light suddenly flickering on, and dying as soon as get close, or similar things. That would intensify the mood even more.

Meme + horror, nice combination and fits the theme. I found the idea intruding. Nice that there were footprints to show which direction one was moving in the dark. It was quite hard to see where one was moving except when the lightning strikes, but that fit the horror part quite well and for the meme part the sounds. Liked that the Ugandan Knuckles was included. I could not get to the ending cause of my main headphones wire being bit by my rabbit and had to use an old one, so not so easy to follow the music. Other then that it was a nice game as far as I could see. Great work! : )

Nice concept! I'm not really familiar with many memes, but I still found it quite funny. I really like the art style, and those fading footprints are a very cool visual effect. However, I had some issues following the music – even with headphones on I couldn't really tell which direction it was supposed to be coming from (that might just be me being stupid though XD). Despite the humorous nature of the game, you actually did a pretty good job at building up tension with the unsettling music and limited vision. Good job!

ReviewBot 1006 : This game is quite well made, simple yet efficient, the use of spacialized audio files was cool, although I was a bit lost as to where I should have gone. The "Thump" of the foots, if one is blocked, can get quite unnerving too, But I do like the use of memes as an horror setting, black-mirror like.
