'Meme'bumps by Chetan pant
Phishy, a girl born in a village of 'Disastria', has grown up loving all sorts of comic. Soon she realizes that her love for "Memes" is a nightmare for her. The problem is so bad that the memes now haunt her all the time. Help Phishy solve the punny and night terror mystery.
Objective of the Game: Follow the Source of the Music. Also try to avoid the different "Meme" sounds on the way.
The 2 Incompatible Genres are: Pop culture viral comedy + Horror. (Who knew that even these 'memes' can scare the hell out of you)

We are Engineering students from India and are hardcore gamers ourselves too. This game was developed using Unity3D game engine with C# programming language. Other softwares used: Paint.net and Photoshop.
This Game uses 3D sound, so it is suggested that you should use headphones while playing. Music Credits: Dead Silence (2007)
Controls: WSAD or Arrow Keys - Movement. LMB - Clicking.

Ambient lightning sound volume could be toned down. It kind of masks other important sounds and listening to these are the main game play mechanic.
Music is creepy and fitting to the Don't Starvish visuals.
I'm not much of a Meme person myself so I don't get so much out of this game probably. Just saying, that the Memes can limit the scope of target audience.
Feel free to expand from the original inspiration and include different ideas to your game. You don't have to make exact copy of another game. :)
We have just started making games and are still in the learning process. This Jam was an excuse for us to learn new things. You can consider us the 'noobs' in GameDev community. But really your feedback is very motivating and we'll try our best to do better next time as well as to keep on expanding the game. Thankyou so much.
We'll thought it was least important so we decided to do it at the end. We'll keep updating the game. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers!
I got a little confused by the music sound + memes sounds sounding all together. The concept was cool and I wanted to finish the game overall to see what was going on.
Good job.
It has been said before but it would be make a huge difference with a sprite for each direction!
The ambience is pretty good! You managed to do a good darkness effect, and accompanied with 3D sound makes the experience very inmersive!
Congrats!
Very well done. really enjoyed it. :)
thanks for the game

##### me irl
Pretty funny! I always like when jam entries do something different with audio, or heck, even DO something with audio! Many seem to regard soundscapes something that you do if you have spare time at the end. I appreciate that you took the audio experience as front and center of you game.
Played the android version, analog stick analogue was somewhat inconvenient on my device at least. Bit too cramped in the corner, going southwest was awkwardish.
Thanks man!
Okay i'll look at the android build! Thanks!
What I loved
* The memes lol
* Funny interpretation of the theme
* The overall feel, ambience & vibe
What could be improved
* The controls felt a little inconvenient
* Some directional movement was weird
* Not very clear what you’re supposed to do in the game
Thanks for sharing. I’d love for you to try out my game as well!

The primary mechanic of staying at distance from the meme audio is pretty clever and well executed, though I wasn't sure if there was also a direction to go *to*. I did finish the game when I went closer to the background music at one point, but I had tried that before with no result, so I am not sure if that was a coincidence or not.
The art is decent, but there's not a lot of it. Which makes sense given the concept, but that also makes me feel like some more time could have been spent on what is there. The Play/Next button that's used, for instance, looks hastily circled but not nicely designed, if you catch my meaning. I did notice one odd thing where moving diagonally left my footprints at different distances, one small step and one big step.
The music, rain and thunder are very atmospheric, and I very much appreciate the use of different surface sounds for the footsteps. Nice touch.
All in all an entertaining and clever concept, and a good first submission!
The game is simple but you did a great job on sound management.
And the little touches of humor are nice ;-)
Nice job guys!
Please try our games:

The meme sound was maybe a bit strong, I didn't expect it to be so loud, but it is kind of cool to search for the "scare".
I also made a horror game, please, take a look: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional
The game controls are good and the objective is clear. All in all - a solid entry. + Its awesome for you guys to include source code too
Nice entry, funny concept. I had a good laugh playing. At the end Knuckles killed me, but I will reach the source of the music someday!
I tried the Android version, at first the game froze a bit but later it worked fine. The controls are easy to learn, which is good.
If you want an idea to make it scarier, you could set a sprite for the source if the memes, that way when the lightning strikes the player wouldn't expect the meme to be so close.
Well done!
I really appreciate your feedback and will definitely try it out to make the game better. Thankyou so much.
The atmosphere was really well done, the music helps a lot to set the tone. The graphics are very functional as well.
Congratulations on the project guys, keep up the good work :)
Anyways, I really like the mood and the use of Sound as a "compass". Really innovative. I just wish there was some other sort of confirmation on whether one runs in the right direction :)
More seriously, maybe the controls could be a little more fluid or quick, as the sound position isnt obvious, at least we could explore faster.
But overall, it was pretty funny. Big points on humor for the meme (there has to be meme games at every LD, right ?)
I would like to see more situations when something (unexpected) happens, maybe even jump scares. Some light suddenly flickering on, and dying as soon as get close, or similar things. That would intensify the mood even more.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

Would be nice to get some ideas, feedback and know what we can improve : )
...I still hate jumpscares and probably won't play your game ever again though ;)

Does the lightning actually also show memes near you? It should.
Fun audio game - might need a few more hints here and there for direction (during lightning, or perhaps another visual clue.
My game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/minigulf-gods
I liked the spatial audio usage  good job.
Apparently creepy music box and lightning/thunder are enough to bring the mood.
Congrats.
If you have still some time, I would love it if you could test our game. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/astropover
