Help Bill to take a chill pill!

The world is too small for all its inhabitants, according to bill...

Smash and slash your way through innocent people, so Bill feels chill again.

How to play

Energy meter

energy-bar.png - Every time you slash unsuspecting shoppers, your energy meter goes down.

- Make sure you slay enough people in one hit, so you can collect maximum cash from them without breaking too much of a sweat.

The stress-o-meter

chill-o-meter.png Bill has a stress-o-meter, that indicates how angry he is. If he gets worked up too much, you'll lose! - By slashing people, the stress meter goes down! - If your stress-o-meter goes all to the right, you'll lose!!! :(

- Sprite lowers the meter for 25%!!! (see next section)

Sprite vending machines!

vending_machine.png - If you've gathered enough money from the rotting corpses, you can buy (Missing) Sprite!!! - Press F at a Sprite vending machine to buy a Sprite (if you have enough money)

- After consuming(!) your sprite, your stress-o-meter goes down!

Farts

farts.png

Once in a while, a random shopper decides to squeeze out an ass whistle....to airbrush his boxers.....to play the trouser tuba.....to cough from his lower back.... Well you get what I mean

Do not step into the deadly gases!!! If you hear Bill cough, you know you're in the wrong place at the wrong time...!

Your energy meter goes down to zero, and your stress-o-meter shoots up!

I really liked the art style, and the audio additions were funny. Your core mechanic felt solid, and I really liked the funny little clips when using the drink machine. Great work! :D

Really fun game and quite easy to get into :D I really like the art direction as well as the sound effects :) one thing that could be improved tho, would be that you can see your old highscore to give you more incentive to play again and beat it :D But for the available amount of time you guys really produced a great game :)

That is a nice game! The art is excellent, the "murder everyone cause they stress me" is fun and the audio matches the frenetic gameplay.

I would have loved an easy mode, to just slaughter without worrying about stress and energy, but that would not make it a better game.

Thanks guys.
@loktor a highscore (either local or online) was definitely on the list, but we ran out of time sadly. Good suggestion though!

Really, really awesome artwork. Gameplay is fun as well and the idea of slashing people because the world is too small... that's a really interesting take on the whole theme.

I didn't encounter any problems with the game, so really great work on this one.

Great game ! Easy to control, nice art and cool sound design. I'm digging it.

It's a bit repetitive when you get into it. The energy from soda's was really nice, and the humor was great as well. Nicely done.

Graphics, effects and sound all felt very polished and fit well together. I loved the artstyle. The difficulty ramp was pretty good, but after a while the farts got out of hand and they were almost impossible to dodge. It was understandable and maybe a good thing though. I loved all the small details. Overall a very solid entry, well done!

My highscore was 3227 :D

Great game! Really nicely polished and the concept is simple but hilarious. Very satisfying to play, challenging but not in a frustrating way. Could happily play for a good while; overall a really strong entry, well done!

First of all I'd like to say that this is officially the best interpretation of the small world theme, I have no idea how you came up with such an absurd yet interesting idea! The game is very fun, and i'd totally download it on my phone. I'm looking forward to any powerups or similar mechanics you might add to improve the game, because its quite simple right now. The graphics and audio are also very nice.

Quite fun and funny!

I really liked how y'all used voice acting for most (if not all!) SFX! The song seemed to loop too soon, but it was cool the way that it changes as you get more stressed!

The graphics were quite good and I'm impressed with how complete this game is!

Well done!

Love this entry. Firstly, the game is very funny. Secondly, it has superb graphics and animation. Your custom sound effect was great / funny too. Lastly, the gameplay itself is very satisfying, I also love the little detail where the chill bonus clip gets faster and faster to avoid player wait time. The late game gets pretty hard though, I feel like I cannot catch up and just loses eventually. It feels like one swing doesn't really kill that many people. Would love to see power ups / more enemy types to be introduced.

Overall, it is a very fun game, one of my favorite for this LD. Well done!!!

Not my type of game, but I will look past that. The graphics and sound effects were very well done. There were enough obstacles in the game to keep the player actively engaged with various aspects (energy/stress/etc.) I was never able to buy a Sprite because I either never had enough money or stress got too high first, but that is probably just my lack of skill. I did notice that on several occasions, the enemies walked through the planters next to the Sprite machine while I was not able to.

Good entry.

lol @ being so specific as to pick sprite. Bill has good taste.

The game was quick and fun, which is what this event is all about! I took out some workday stress here! I was however, quite bad at it... my fault, not yours! Nice work!

This is probably the most amusing game I've played for the jam, the humor definitely hits home with me. I love the audio cues and the animated sequence when you buy a (missing) sprite. Only had a couple issues with the game, the biggest that I feel your stress climbs a tad rapidly. The second being fart bombs being dropped in your immediate area, which I think leads to part of my first issue; if you get caught in that fart bomb unintentionally you may as well kiss your sanity goodbye.

Definitely had a good time with this, even though my high score was pretty pitiful.

02. May 2017 · 02:54 UTC
A solidly created game -- It controls well and I felt like I had control over my character/he did what I wanted/expected. I'll parrot what some of the other commentators have said in that it seems more luck than anything else as to when you die due to either a low density of people to kill or an unavoidable fart bomb in your path.

I think the game could be improved by adding some unique characters to the game -- maybe there are some people who tick Bill off more than others so killing them grants more sanity. Or maybe Bill could fart himself -- after all everyone prefers their own brand right?

All said, a solid entry. Thanks for the game :)

Reminds me of my LD34 entry, Angry Man  - just better.
I like the cutscene and presentation, but I feel the balancing is a bit off. Something about round length, the rate the meter raises and values doesn't seem right to me.

Good work!

02. May 2017 · 09:18 UTC
@psychead I looked up your LD34 entry, vaguely recognised it, and then I saw that I rated and commented on your game . Too bad the link is broken.

I completely agree with your remarks, the balancing is off. The difficulty ramps up way too fast after about 30 seconds when the whole playing field is covered in farts. It probably needs less farts, or the farts should be less powerful.

Thanks for your comment!

There is a lot to like here. My main feedback is that I feel with so many enemies the want to just hack and slash is very high yet it is unfortunately interrupted by the energy mechanic.
dylanilvento
02. May 2017 · 09:39 UTC
Really like the design of all the sprites and and custom text - like the logo and game over screens. I also think that a lot of the frustration stems from the energy bar depleting too fast. I was constantly near zero with my energy.
MathijsVissers
02. May 2017 · 09:47 UTC
@flukeshot You're right, I noticed this while watching other people play as well, people run around and slash away, leaving the energy meter almost always empty, leading to a whole lot of "Need more energy". Good point that needs to be addressed in one way or the other.

@kosmo the counter-fart is a brilliant idea, we hadn't thought of that. We'll keep that in mind if we continue working on this!

@james-dunlap Yeah the collision on the enemies regarding objects is a bit wonky sometimes. There's a little gap you can squeeze through between the plants on the left side of the level if that's the one you mean.

Thanks for playing and the feedback guys, much appreciated!

This was a great game with awesome graphics, a lot of humor and funny sounds. Even though the gameplay was really simple(which is normal for a game jam) it was a lot of fun to play this. As flukeshot already said I also ended up spamming space even though there was limited energy. But this didn't stop the game from being a lot of fun. Good Job, by far one of the best games so far!

Pretty fun game but i think you should optimize a bit more the bad frame rate affects the gameplay a bit ( i have i3 4170 and a GTX 960 8gb ram) The strong point of the game is the art department for sure (Graphics and Sound)

I'm not generally a fan of ultra-violent games, but I'm also not a fan of crowded shopping centers, so I guess it cancels out in this case. Very polished game, the cut scenes in particular were a real standout for me, but it's hard to fault any part of the implementation here.

This is so slick and all the elements come together fantastically, lovely stuff. Really impressed at how polished and fun the whole game is! Went a good few rounds on it. :D

I feel as though a reaction from Bill animation-wise might've sold the deadliness of the fart clouds a bit better? That could mostly be me because I'm a numpty and I didn't clock on to their lethality at first. Lots to do, people to kill, all that good jazz.

Since the game is all played on keyboard it felt a little odd to me that I had to use the mouse to press Go. Really a super minor nitpick!

Lastly just wanted to say I like how the voice over for the obtaining Sprite speeds up with every purchase. Helps ramp everything up.

Very nice, clean art style, simple but fun mechanics and top-notch audio. I really enjoyed this game, but it would've been nice if it had an actual ending (which I'm sure would've been hilarious). I for one am feeling quite chill after slashing through all these innocent people :)

Haha, the recorded audio were funny. I like how the bonus clip plays faster and faster each time. I'm not a big fan for crowded place so this is really relaxing and releasing for me.Good work!

哈哈哈现场录的音效很逗,那个喝雪碧的动画会随着喝下的次数越放越快,很聪明也很搞笑。我特别讨厌人多的地方,所以这个游戏对我来说意外的减压。不错的作品

Nice implementation, the art and audio gives it a fairly polished look and feel. Would have wanted to have some sort of build-up maybe - with the amount of people you don't get the satisfaction of going berserk and popping everyone around you.

Quite polished entry! I didn't read the text in green about the vending machines so I thought I was winning when my rage meter went all the way to red. Huh, I guess I got the game all wrong at first :P

I also got almost sick from the camera - the player should always stay in the center (horizontally)! My playstyle included a lot of going left and right fast, so the way you made the camera show more area towards the player's current direction was a bit counter-productive.

Loved all the puns!

Amazing game, I love the art and sounds, it's also a lot of fun. I don't have a lot of comments to make in order to improve, the only thing probably would be having the energy bar recovering sooner or maybe just having a mode with infinite energy, you know... just to massively kill a lot of people without any boundaries xD. Great work!

The most simple and addicting game I've played in this LD yet. The animation and sound effect of buying a Sprite was hilarious, and despite its simplicity, balancing the efficiency of your slashes actually involved a fair bit of strategy. Beautiful art style as well, very well done. NEEEED MORE ENERGYYYY

One of the best presentation's I've seen that far. Great art, super polished and smoothly animated. Felt good using the sword and that made me feel bad because I was slashing people, and I think that's exactly what you wanted. Absolutely great job. I think it could be less repetitive, which would make it more fun.

Core mechanics are nice (besides murdering people like a luny XD). I ran out of energy quite offten and gathering enough money to reduce the MENTAL-meter was pretty hard, maybe that could have been a bit better balanced.

Would you like to play a game thats equally nuts?

Funny game and great graphics and music!

When you turn back the camera changes too fast.

As @james-dunlap, I could not buy a Sprite, I could not have enough money to do it. In one moment I bought sprite in the same moment that I get "game over", so I saw the cut-scene (very nice!) but then I could not keep playing.

Incredible graphics and audio. I wish it was a bit easier for me, but I am not good at these kind of games. It would be nice to get some type of power ups, during game play randomly, (Bigger sword, unlimited energy for a short time, or x2 stress relief from kills), but it is just a suggestion. Great work. :)

The graphics and animation are really well made, and I liked the funny small touches like "Poor Life Choices" tattood on the main characters neck. Fun game, this has been my favourite game as far as humour goes so far. The gameplay is simple but fun and the graphics are great. The sound is spot on though I did tire of hearing "Need more energy" over and over. The soda machine cut scene is fantastic. I played a few times but it didn't have much replay value after that. I think this could be solved easily enough though with some kind of upgrade system. That would allow you to start the game off easier as well, resolving the energy issue (as currently you are just bombarded from the start).

Also, maybe some visual/audio cues for when you are approaching your stress limit would be good? As the game is so hectic with your slashing, you don't pay that much attention to the HUD.

Great stuff.

Amazing game! Simple but really fun and funny! I love the art-style, it really contributed a lot to the overall fun of the game. The sprite cut scene also was the best reward ever :P It was kinda hard getting the money though, but maybe that's just me sucking at games. As others suggested, adding some kind of upgrades and other elements can make the complete version of this game truly awesome! I'm thinking about something similar to Tap Titans, but with your whole theme and aesthetic. I'd really love to see the final game! Great job! :D

666 points for the mental breakdown! Everything is awesome in this game, bricks were shat :) One of the best entries for me!

18. May 2017 · 17:31 UTC
This is so deliciously mental, I love it.

Super extra bonus point for spot-on humour, poor life choices tattoo and 'omnomnom' sequence speedup :)

What could be improved:

- fart hitbox (that's a sentence I **never** thought I'd write) needs work IMO. Sometimes it felt unfair... then again farts generally feel unfair.

- when buying first sprite, there's always 'need more money' played simultaneously, even though the buy sequence starts properly

- chill bonus works too mysteriously - at times it didn't lower the mental breakdown meter at all

But that aside, it's freakishly fun. Just some tweaks and balancing, and it's perfect :)

Cheers, and stay awesome!
