Space Chess mixes Space Invaders-like shoot'em up genre 🛸 with the rules of chess !

title.png

Or maybe is it a mix between shoot 'em ups and card games? Tower defense? Rhythm game? Anyway, let's defend the world once again, using chess-shaped spaceships ! 😀

scr1.png

Instructions : - Drag cards to the battlefield to turn them into beautiful spaceships ! (using your mouse or finger, depending whether you're using your computer or your favorite phone) - Drag spaceships to warp them to the bottom of the battlefield (useful to save them from destruction)

Wow this game is cool! Great presentation! Cool idea, tricky, and challenging! I'm amazed you were able to put this together in such short time!

I was drawn to your game because I also made a chess-mashup, though mine is a little less creative than yours! :)

**Amazing work!** It is fun, new, works well, and feels like a solid package. I had a lot of fun playing your game. It forced me to think differently and overall I feel like I got something from playing your game.

Really fantastic concept overall, and impeccably well implemented. I like how the rhythm aspect made timing your placements really important, and the friendly fire made it crucial to think out your positioning carefully. Introducing more pieces and more enemies over time kept the game constantly fresh, and the audio and visuals gave the game a very energetic vibe. This is a truly fantastic, well rounded entry, a case of a simple and creative premise well executed. Great job!

Great concept. I had a similar idea, but no time to dwell onto it... And your execution is *MUCH* better than mine, even if I had time.

The audio and visuals are fantastic, the core idea is solid, and there's a lot of variety in the enemies, pieces, and levels. All around, great work. The game is let down for me by a few quality of life things, but that's largely a subjective thing.

The controls on PC at least are difficult to use; the pieces are fairly slippery when you try to click on them; because of the speed of the game mouse control is just not ideal. Either having a slower tempo on PC or some sort of keyboard control (hotkeys for the various towers/columns don't seem too hard to implement) would help the experience immensely.

A more minor gripe is that pieces disappear when they reach the top. They can be recovered if you drag them to your hand before they get there, but doing so takes time and, as mentioned above, is fairly finicky with a mouse. Automatically returning pieces from the end of the board to your hand would save a few more headaches.

I understand that the focus here is on touch controls, though, so I can't really fault you for the issues I've had. The game's really well polished and fun to play. Nice work.

@all Really nice feedback here, glad to see you've liked the game so much, thanks a lot !

@amras0000 Actually you're totally right, I knew people here in LD were going to play this with a mouse so I should have improved the controls a bit. Moreover, as you said the ships should be returned to your hand when they reach the top instead of disappearing. Also, I agree with you, keyboard controls would add a lot !

Audio is fantastic! That simple song stuck'd to my ear. Idea is very fitting and fun. Controls are intuitive(PC) and hints are spot on. Difficulty curve is well thought of. Can't find anything bad to say about the game. My favorite game so far. I was constantly exited for the next challenge and what the next chess pieces would do.

**Two things I miss: **
1. Pawn becoming a Queen when it hits the top edge
2. Game Over when King dies

What a cool game. It's rare when you encounter a gem that is easy to pick up and complete and being challenging at the same time. The main theme is great, I ended up humming it while playing. I like this version better than original (chess), haha.
A very well thought-off game, executed flawlessly - all those animations, sounds, etc. Very well done, Sir.

Both the aesthetics and gameplay really work in tandem here. I'm sure you know this, but you have a great potential phone game in your hands! I really want to see this hit a Store.

@keppu Yeah, I thought about adding these, for instance when a pawn would reach the top it could return as a Queen on your hand.

@all : thanks again for this very positive and motivating feedback

I never could've guessed chess and space-invaders fit so well together! The amount of content is stunning given the timelimit. Well done! You could just release the game on mobile and pc right now!

Interesting idea. Very well executed. Was a little tough on my crappy trackpad. I can see how this would make a nifty mobile game. Good stuff :8ball:

Pretty cool! I think I would have enjoyed a lot more playing this on a touchscreen rather than trying to use a trackpad. The music and graphics are very pleasing, the gameplay is innovative and fun. I only got to use Rooks, on level 1-2, but I can imagine this game could get much more interesting with other chess pieces introduced. Why not start with Pawns?

@csanyk Well, Pawns are so weak they can only shoot in diagonals and their range is limited to one square, so starting with Rooks is much easier :)
