How to play

  • Any key to press the button
  • Left and right to spin the wheel
  • Arrow keys or WASD to move and avoid the asteroids
  • Pick up the batteries for more energy and wrenches for health
  • Don't run out of energy or health!

note: the "captain we ran out of energy"-energy is unrelated to the "avoiding asteroids ship"-energy.

Bug fixes and port stuff

  • added a windows standalone build
  • ...

Love2d files and windows standalone can all be downloaded from the itch.io page. For playing the game on mac or linux, please download love2d.

As of 31 jul - 23 pm cest, I've fixed three issues the original upload had. Since the problems were minor and unintended I think it would be okay to fix them according to the official rules.

Pretty cool :)
It reminds me of my old days playing the Game Maker version of Asteroids.

I liked that there weren't many objects in this game that were just static images - there was rotating objects and moving textures and the like. Motion kept the game alive even though the gameplay was simple. The mini-events were also a nice addition to spice things up.

Note: sometimes controls didn't work as intended, for example pressing down didn't always move the ship down.

@borb Thanks for the feedback!

Could you explain when the controls didn't work? I haven't encountered a bug like that, but I'll look into it!

nice little game! a lot of the visuals were very nice, especially with the clipped backgrounds. though things like the fire and the asteroids were pretty contrasting with that.
Not much gameplay of course, but for what is there it's pretty nice! good job

Got 55 points on the first run — dead because no more energy supply appeared (I think I collected all of them) and 590 on the second run.

I don't know if two game modes are connected somehow but I think it would be cool if they were. Also I'd add more challenge to the wheel spinning part.
For examle — you have only 10 seconds and amount you made comes to your score (or else) and misclicks (errors) turns to some energy/health penalties.

Funny patterns and typography rythm by the way :)

*love* the presentation of this (pun intended), but the gameplay is a bit dull. not a whole lot going on!

While the dodging of incoming asteroids was fun, it did get repetitive after a while.
The battery cranking minigame is what I was waiting for after a while. Don't know why mashing left and right was so satisfying.

Enjoyed this little one. Expected something slightly different at the beginning, like different screens that would make me click different buttons quickly (left-right, up-down, x-z, w-a-s-d, whatever) but still enjoyed what I got. Not bad indeed.

I liked this quite a bit! The minimalist aesthetic was well done and there were lots of pleasant details to see-- I especially enjoyed the UI. One minor note is that I would have preferred to have access to more powerups even if it meant increasing the density of obstacles, since in my first playthrough I only ever saw one energy pickup! This is by no means a major detriment though!

This was a neat game. I liked the masking effect you did with the spaceship and the HUD. Gameplay probably could have been more polished, but it's good how it is.

The avoid-em-up part of the game was okay, but I didn't get the point of the animation with the spaceship flying by or the "spin the wheel to recharge" thing. Did they actually affect gameplay at all?

The graphics weren't bad, though.

Simple, too much so. Dodging asteroids is enjoyable for only so long. The lack of energy power-ups doesn't help.

The graphics are neat, audio rudimentary.

Ok job, could be more exciting with more mechanics.

I think that the main thing to improve this game is to add more mini events. Basically, have the core system of the game be the flying screen, and then every so often something will happen - right now the controller will run out of batteries (?) but there could also be other systems going down or perhaps you run into aliens or perhaps you get a mission where you have to do something during the flying stage (like you are given tractor beam privileges and you have to collect a small asteroid).

I don't know if all that would entirely go so well with what is apparently a high-score game, or if it's in line with the current game's goals, but I think it's at least worth consideration.

Wow, I love the way you present everything, the UI and interstitial screens are just gorgeous, well done!

The gameplay is very simple though and I'm not sure if the balance is fair right now...I ran out of batteries because there were none to collect and I don't think I missed any on that stage. Sometimes they would spawn behind asteroids though, so that might have happened.
