Sacrificial Ammunition by Cenoon

[raw]
made by Cenoon for LD 44 (JAM)

Sacrificial Ammunition is a survival shooter that has you up against an infinite hoard of red enemies. You start with a magazine full of 5 bullets. In order to reload another 5, you must spend 10% of your HP. Avoid taking damage and make every shot count in order to take down enemies. Enemies may drop health pickups to replenish your health. How long can you last? (Full-screen for best results)

Best played on the Windows version, but I've included a WebGL version if you don't want to download anything.

This is my first game, as well as my first Ludum Dare entry

The game-play is simplistic and easy to understand however, it was proberly not the best idea to make it a browser game. If it was .exe version, the game would be easier to play

Nice and easy, but I think HTML was a bad choice for a FPS

The graphics and sound effects is really good in this game. The gameplay idea is okay, but it could have been more interesting. Overall a good first LD game.

Yes, I agree with @joe-bell, probably this was not a good idea to make it a browser game.

One minor technical issue: I had to click into the game view for the mouse to be tied to the game. That wasted a bullet. A start screen might have helped.
My highscore was 53 but I felt like I was forced to loose by randomness. Every shot was a hit and enemies just didn't drop enough hp. :D One thing I didn't understand: Why choose an AK as a 5 bullet gun? Still, I had fun playing it.

Oh and the arena looks very familiar. ;)

Thank you guys for the feedback! I hosted it in browser because I was honestly unsure how to handle uploading/downloading of the whole .exe version, but i'll make sure I do more research and do that for the next time  That would also fix the mouse issue @gruni had at the start (a start screen would be good to have regardless, I agree)

The randomness was something I added to make the game not feel like it lasts forever, although I do agree it can feel bad to lose due to a random drop chance. I tried a few different versions of healing, such as every shot healing back 5% hp or similar and felt that the random drops felt the most balanced in my opinion.

Thanks all again!! Wonderful feedback

Great use of theme; you really feel the pain of it costing you health every time you miss a shot. It was a little lacking in variety, but still, great job!

I'm actually glad there was an HTML version, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play it. I had no issues on the HTML version except for some text being cropped off but other than that it ran fine. I liked the idea, but I think either the player should have been static (stayed in one area, unable to move about) or there should have been a bigger space to well.. move about.

Cool, that in 3D and in the browser. But it is very boring to play. The idea of the competition is disclosed as standard. Are enemies the rectangles?

Good game! Some skins for the enemies would be nice or maybe some levels where they are running in a bigger arena etc... , also i found out that the heart hitboxes are stopping bullets, it's pretty annoying when a lot of enemies are in line. But it was pretty fun,

Good job !

Simple and fun. I like the bright red and brown/yellow color palette.
