Light At Night by Extrone

[raw]
made by Extrone for LD 41 (JAM)

Light At Night is Rage + Mystery 3D-Platformer where you are Light platforming around at Night. Complete all the objectives of the current level to get to the next level. This is the first time I am submitting a game to Ludum Dare and also the first time I am making my own Music for a game.

Beware Platforming at Night is dangerous.

This is a mix of 3D-Platformer and Rage Games, since the controls are difficult and the levels are hard.

Great aesthetic - clever way to make it visually interesting within the time constraint of the jam. Platforming's fun, though the controls are a little finicky - it would be nice to have more air control, I spent ages jumping from one side to another trying to get to one of the collectibles. Fantastic music. Nice work!

@mahalis I am glad that you liked the game :video_game:,
Thanks for the feedback, I understand your concerns with the controls,
it really needs a bit more adjustment. Also this is the first time ever I created my own music, so I guess it's good for a first timer, I am happy that you liked it

Colorful and vibrant platformer. Made it past the Impossible Level! Loved the fact that each level had it's own track. Loved the colors, the difficulty, and the game itself. As for criticism, I couldn't really see another genre mixed in.

@Hello.Coder Thanks for the feedback, You made it past the impossible level :astonished:. It was there so that no one gets to the unfinished level . This is the first time I am Making Music, Glad that you liked it . I didn't really care about the theme very much, I just wanted to get a good game out there.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate that.

Visually this game looks interesting and catchy. But speaking about gameplay it misses a little. At first your character feels absolutely sluggish and unresponsive, but a mere moments later you get the feel for it and understand that you just need to be calm and delicate with your movement. Every drop needs to be corrected a whole lot more than you expect. But as soon as I begin to engoy this control scheme not for its responsiveness but for the challange comes the fourth level. This level introduces killer blocks that stand around one pillar with a distance of one block from one another. And one block is exactly the distance you would normally jump for. So you fall on one killer block, try to escape and almost 100% land on the other. After a couple of retries it becomes quite frustrating. I tried my best but the sixth level broke me.
Other than the movement mechanic (that actually works quite well, when accompanied by proper level design), and the music (which I myself find unfitting) the game has its fun parts and colorful visual aesthetics.

@detectiveLosos Thanks for giving some in-depth feedback of my game  I really appreciate that. I am going to update the game soon, so your feedback really helps. I agree with you that the music is not quit fitting for the style of the game. Also the levels are a bit messed up as You said. I will fix it in the next update. Thanks again for this valuable feedback .

I like almost everything about this game. It looks good, it has great music and sound effects. Controls are... not what I'd expect and I found them a bit frustrating early on but I got used to them after some time (though not enough to attempt the impossible level).

I'm not sure if I get the theme but it's definitely an interesting entry and I enjoyed my time with it!

@LemonBalmGames Glad that you liked the game . I was also not sure how the game is related to the theme. But after getting some feedback, the game also feels like a rage game so it's a
platformer + Rage Game, since the controls and the levels are hard. Thanks for giving the feedback really appreciate that.

Is the impossible level actually possible? I got to the impossible level and couldn't jump back up from the yellow crystal. The game is actually really fun. Although to be honest, it just feels like a platformer. I don't really see how it fits the theme or combines any other genres.

Great job on the graphics, it looks very nice ! The gameplay is enjoyable, just a bit laggy on my computer witch at some point became pretty difficult to handle. Also I'd say that the controls feels a little bit clunky, like the jumps are maybe to wide or something. Other than that congratulations, you managed to submit a pretty polished game !

@La-mecanique-du-plastique Thanks for playing and rating my game . not sure what's the cause of the lag, it ran fine for everyone. I agree with you on the controls, it's wonky. But I guess since the controls make it more hard and it's kind of a rage game, it's appropriate ? maybe. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, really appreciate that .

Wonderful game, i loved the art style a lot! I think for a rage game it could be a bit more difficult, I only died one time in the whole game. The music is amazing and i liked it very much that every level had its own one - and all of them fit very good into the game. Good job!

Nice use of particles! The game is appropriately challenging and looks great, but the main menu completely missuits rest of graphics and in comparison is terrible. Make menu as minimalistic and light like gameplay and it will be perfect!

Was this all original music, or was it a mix of premade beats, or was it premade music? Hard to tell. Anyway, good job! It's fun, it fits the genres well, and it looks quite good! For a rage game, it was really easy UNTIL the last level, where the difficulty spiked REALLY badly. Maybe make the earlier levels easier OR make it so that you only get one life, then you have to start over. It would fit the rage theme better. Also, since when is mystery 3d platformer a genre? There's three genres here...

Good job, and good luck!

@notpresident35 I used it with an iPhone app called blocs wave, where you can mix pre-made beats to create music. I used the premade beats in the app to create the music.

I believe I just went the normal way, there was only one unavoidable hazard if I remember correctly. The start ones can be bypassed by standing on the edge and just press up and right at the exact same time, you will land on the next platform perfectly. Apart from that it was fairly standard, just more difficult.
