The Adventures of Billy Bob Jones by YellowZombie

[raw]
made by YellowZombie for LD 44 (JAM)

The Adventures of Billy Bob Jones is a silly platformer about a a cloaked figure who needs to extract the life-force of others in order to make himself more powerful. This game unfortunately had to have many features scrapped due to computer issues (Unity decided to go into a crash loop, and then later went into a hang whenever we tried to play the game), and being a bit busy. This is YellowZombie's second LDJam, but SquirreI's first. After the issues we had, we're just glad that we made a working product. SquirreI created the Art, and most of the Level Design, while YellowZombie did the rest. (Even though YellowZombie is more familiar with level design than SquirreI.)

Bug Fixes: 1. Shop signs were flipped 2. Jump Height upgrade actually decreased your jump height... Whoops!

Nice. I really like the art. I like how sneaky the little spikes on the ground are. I also enjoyed climbing blocks with the scepter.

This was cute, the result of the jump height purchase surprised me.

Unity can be a pain sometimes. But you made it through alive, and that's what counts!

@sylvie Actually, that's a bug that my partner kept saying existed, but I couldn't find at the time. My code was working properly, but my partner had changed the base jump height during the level design process and I had just passed it by as if it wouldn't change anything... So I was running off of our original jump height in the upgrade math thus making the jump smaller. My bad, but thanks for playing it! (the upgrade is fixed in the latest build, which will be published shortly)

@flashviper Yeah, it can... Never figured out exactly why it was acting up, however, I figured out that somewhere along the line a RigidBody2D on a specific sprite was causing the hangs, we were forced to remove our plans for said sprite else we wouldn't have even been able to finish what we did. I'm really glad the game was able to come out as a somewhat finished product though! Thank you for taking the time to play the game <3

Cool entry, one thing I noticed was that you keep your powerups after dying. I also found that I could just get to the first shop by dropping off one of the early platforms, so I just kept getting my upgrade and dying to get it again and ended up with a ridiculous jump

Good job getting your game done, had fun playing it!

@maggardjosh We tried to find some way to prevent that from happening, but with the problems we were having, it slipped our mind. Glad you enjoyed the game though!

I did a few play throughs, and I got stuck on the edge of one of the platforms and had to restart. The graphics were awesome!

@blondhie Thank you! It was my first time ever using Krita, so I wasn't sure how well they would turn out, but I'm glad to know that someone other than me and YellowZombie think they look nice, as we are slightly partial.
