Test Subject Infinity by matootie

[raw]
made by matootie for LD 43 (JAM)

Preface

This is our first playable entry for Ludum Dare. That's right, we're noobs. That being said, there's a lot we wanted to do, but couldn't in time. Let's not get into that now. We'll write a nice post-mortem to summarize it all.

There is one thing I feel I need to explain is how the game works, seeing as one of our plans that fell through was to develop an intro cutscene for some backstory, and a tutorial level.

Backstory

You are the test subject of a scientific experiment. Mad scientists are working on perfecting resurrection, and they succeed! You can now resurrect upon death, leaving your body where it was.

Alarms in the laboratory go off and all the mad scientists escape, leaving you behind. You must now find a way to escape the laboratory! Hint: sometimes you must sacrifice yourself, to get ahead.

Controls

  • A - Move left
  • D - Move right
  • Space - Jump
  • Click - Clear ragdoll (click on ragdoll to clear)

Gameplay

Your lives are limited per level. Get from the resurrection tank, to the doors, by solving each puzzle. The LD submission of this game features 5 levels, however we hope to add more in the future (in a separate build, to preserve what we were able to get done in 72 hours), as well as graphics, sound, mechanics, and overall tweaks.

Cool game! I would recommend also hosting a download option for those with slower computers (me). Otherwise I would work on the camera, for most of the game it's zoomed in too much and when it changes it zooms in more, usually this doesn't affect it too much but for platformers people usually like to see where to jump very early.

The movement is very sluggish, I have fallen into a lot of pits by hitting spacebar and not jumping. Cool idea, poor exacution. Sorry

It a great game) really good job. I have a few comments as a player. The spikes are barely visible on the background. As i play it requires to jump on them, not to avoid them, it would be great to see them more clearly. Camera effect is cool thing, but is way too long and after some time becomes annoying.

Good job for your first game !
Here's a list of thing I noticed during my playthrough
- the quit button doesn't work
- you can skip the whole level (the 4 if i remember well) by going left
- the physics of the jump is a little bit frustrating : the fall should be faster (for me)

Here's my honest feedback! Character art is good while everything else doesn't feel right - background is caotic and elements are hard to recognize. I don't really like camera movement too. Gameplay mechanics are cool but not so original. Anyway I think you did a good job for being "noobs" as you claim! Keep up the good work

"Sometimes" you must sacrifice yourself? Gave me a portal mixed with lemmings vibe. Great entry? If you are looking for feedback, I would make the HUD a little more visible or put it in a better spot (or not).

I really liked all of the camera work on death. It made it feel more exciting and gave it a little bit more of an action vibe than a puzzle vibe. Nice job!
