Don't Stop For No'Fin by Esjaji

So for this I thought I'd keep things simple, and I decided to mix an infinite runner with the fishing genre!

Basics

The rules are pretty simple: Dodge obstacles, keep running, and use the mouse to catch and lure in fish. You won't be able to catch the fish unless you get close to them, which requires you to navigate obstacles in a different way.

Tools

I used Aseprite (such a good tool) for the visuals, and Bosca Ceoil and Audacity for the music, Unity for the game engine, and Visual Studio for coding. Some of the sound effects were not by me however, which is why I've opted out of the audio category (That, and I'm not much of a musician anyway!)

Progress

It's not quite as finished as I'd like; I intended to add a tension meter to the fishing to add the possibility of your line snapping, but it'd take time to finesse, and I didn't want to distract the player too much with too many mechanics. I'd have also liked to have refined the platforming mechanics a little more, since they're a little too 'loose' for my tastes, as well as adding a few more obstacles, and fixing a few of the fishing line glitches.

PS. I have no idea if the Linux or MacOS versions work - please let me know!

Hope you enjoy!

lol holy shit i was using the arrow keys for the longest time and switching hands away from my mouse in order to jump. WASD. Got it. makes sense.

Graphics are stunning, great color scheme and pixel art! didn't even notice you were using the cool water effect for a long time, kudos for subtlety

Gameplay is really exciting, would be cool to see a bit more instant reaction from your guy when you try moving in a direction, it feels pretty unresponsive. maybe just a little animation queue that he's started trying to move in the direction?

Great job Aseprite FTW

Lots of fun! For the most part it feels great but I echo the previous comment: Something feels a little sluggish or floaty. If I mess up a jump it's not always clear when I've "landed" and can jump again. Maybe some tweaks should be made to fall speed to get you on the ground faster?

There's definitely something fun and solid here though. This is worth refining if you have the time!
