Engines & Earl Grey by Temmy

[raw]
made by Temmy for LD 39 (COMPO)

Kingdom Brunel was on his way to an afternoon tea party when he landed on the wrong planet. With his rockets energy levels running low it looked like he was going to be stuck! Luckily for him, the planet he landed on has a rather odd weather system; it rains energy crystals.

Re-power the rocket before it completely runs out!

Objective

Collect energy crystals matching what is required at the top of the screen. If you collect the wrong one then the sequence will reset. Every time you complete a sequence the rocket gets more power.

Controls

Movement: RIGHT / LEFT Jump: SPACEBAR

Unfortunately I cannot run this Windows 64 bit exe on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?

Hey, this was great! The music is really catchy and the art is beautiful. I would've liked a little indication of how much power the ship still needed though. Lots of fun if a bit easy - I beat it on my first go. Great entry!

Awesome Game! I love it when someone gets a simple idea and completes it in a game jam. I still cant believe this was made in two days, TWO DAYS. Very well scoped, well done. The audio is great music is very catchy and the sound effects are quick and responsive. Lovin the art style, it is very cute! I've always loved this type of art, half of the reason why i partnered up with my friend. And i can see and appreciate the detail put into this game. The animation when the objects hit the ground, clouds that float by and the camera shake. Of course, this doesn't affect the gameplay but adding it in made the game feel so much better. Well done and Congratulations! (sorry for the long reply)

I was having a cup of tea and reviewing LD games when I found this one and played it until my tea went cold. It's a little gem: I really like the charming graphics, the music and the sound, and there were lots of other little details that elevated it into a fun little game. Very enjoyable.

I very much enjoyed this game! Great idea and well executed. I love the music and the desaturated color scheme.

Interesting concept that the game was really hard to fail at while really quite hard to get the full bar. I was about to give up, when I finally pushed the meter to the max. It would have been nice to get some rocket launch sequence as a reward. Other than that, the one thing that kind of disturbed me was that the sequence I needed to get changed when I failed to match even if I hadn't matched the first one in the sequence. I get the reason for and need to change when you are halfway through or have started on the sequence, but if you just completed one and see what's next and happen to run into the wrong icon it was a bit too easy to miss that it had changed again. So I would suggest leaving sequence if nothing in sequence has been matched (unless the game thinks the sequence should be made easier). But in that case it can just strip icons to match from the right.

@gonutz I've added a HTML 5 version now over at https://temmy.itch.io/engines-earl-grey .

Hopefully that suits you!

i liked the graphics and music, gave the game a cute bit of atmosphere. one tiny complaint- recharging power took too long, meaning beating the game took a little longer than ideal. but i think overall it was good

Well done! This feels really polished and complete! I didn't notice at first that it was possible to win the game but after reading the comments I had to go back and play it again.

Nice game, only gripe is that the background blends in too much with the foreground elements so its kind of hard to make out the action. The monochromatic colors also make it hard to differentiate - perhaps coloring the crystals differently would help with better identification. Made it to the ending.

very fun! I've not been able to determine what happens when I get forms not in the checklist.
Moreover, making 'not' on the list' forms darker would have added readability.
The art is simple but charming and the music is nice too. Sl
solid entry

I absolutely LOVE the music in this game! Very well done, this is catchy and I could listen to this all day long :-)

The graphics are very good, I like the color palette, this gives the game a touch of Gameboy® :-)

The gameplay and controls are solid, it is not the most innovative game but it is actually much fun and the atmosphere is great.

Thanks for putting up the web version, it works without problems. Keep up the good work!

Isambard Kingdom Brunel, what kind of a name is that? (Holy Mr Moly, it's real!)

RNG gods were not on his side that evening thus Isambard spend most of it catching crystals. That rocket has massive idle power draw, not the greatest engineering there Isambard!

Simple, fun, charming. The music could have been a bit less low-fi for my taste. Fine job!
