Armageddon by Swess
The Armageddon is at our doors !!!
You need to save your land from burning! Grab extinguishers, splash bombs and get going!
1 Fire tile extinguished = 1 point! Controllers supported & recommended.
Warning: The game is quite hard hehe... :)
Hint: Try to always clear an item out of the fire to use it right away! (Yes it's doable to hit a score of multiple thousands :p)
Good Luck, Have Fun ! Share your best score & challenge a friend :)!
If the controller doesnt work at first, try plugging the controller BEFORE opening the game... Sometimes solves it.

I think the arrows can be interesting (right hand) or mouse targeting (but I know pad is the best for this sort of game - but not for mine today surprisingly).
And reaaaly cool music !
Except for the difficulty and the (small) menu screen responsiveness it's very polished. I wonder how long one can actually keep the fire lying low... It get's out of hands extremely fast, and as it spreads the faster the more space it occupies, there is some point of no return when you cannot "win" any more.
@liven Mouse aiming would be a good idea indeed :) Thanks
@handle It's fast I know.. been playing it all weekend so found it hard for me.. but it's perhaps too quick for a first-time player ahaha (I wanted to implement difficulty levels but ran out of time...)
I love the fact that, as powerups (seem) to spawn only in not burning aeras, you get much more items at the end, so it up the pace really nicely!
Good job to you o/
I think there's a point of no return in each game where there is enough fire that even if you were constantly extinguishing it you will die eventually. It fits with the theme, and it does force the game to end eventually, but it's a weird state to be in where you're just waiting for the inevitable and trying to put it off. Not a bad one, just not something I've seen often. Usually these situations just frustrate me but this one was fine.
What I do have a problem with are the water bombs, since it seems impossible to predict where they'll land or what area they'll cover. A crosshair or big blue circle would have been helpful, especially since you can't seem to influence how far they go.
My final score was 1263.
Currently an item spawn each 2 seconds if I remember right... (on a fire-free tile)
Another thing is that visually, the item bounces higher than the actual hitbox, so might be confusing an a little bit on precise here.
Thank you for playing & your feedbacks :)!
The art is really nice and the game is fun. I've really appreciated the character controller.
p.s. my only complaints are that the main menu doesn't quite make it to the standard set by the rest of the graphics and it would be nice if you regenerated hp.

Aside from that, good job. I like it when compo entries have an OST, it takes quite an effort to try and compose something in such a short amount of time.
Top score i got was 2327 i think was a little hard to see with your font. my Strat was hold a position with a lot of extinguishers and tornado spray :frog:, but bad RNG can lead to low spawns so most of the time i ended opp RUNNING OUT OF SPACE :japanese_goblin: :frog: :gun:
@rustycrow / @jegus9 Thanks for you feedbacks & critiques! Balance and menus bug fixes are definitely the things I knew wasn't as polished as I wanted :p Didn't have time to playtest it enough :/ and was biased for the difficulty since I played it more than anybody ahaha but... anyway :p Glad you liked it :)
@untitled-studios Wow thank you mate! It was my second GameJam and my first Ludum Dare! It touches me a lot! :) Thank you for your kind words!
Controls were super difficult... my XB1 controller didnt work. so on the keyboard I had to be running towards the flame in order to extinguish it...
Items not stacking bummed me out a little, I picked up 3 waters thinking here we go, imma make this fire my B*$#@... but when i threw the first one and had no more items in my hands i was soooooo sad...
My only complaint is the lack of mouse controls. Otherwise, this was great!
This is a pretty solid entry for a second gamejam. Very addictive and the pacing is really good.
I'm making circles with fire extinguishers. It's pretty effective to stay alive but don't know if it's the best way ha ha!
Good job! :)
I only have trouble getting the controller back when I switch out of the game writing a bit of review, but that gave me the chance to try the keyboard layout as well. ... I can see why you recommend the controller, but fortunately it's still very playable.
Occasionally there is a piece of fire I can't seem to extinguish... it _seems_ to me this sometimes happens when you try to do it with a tile of fire that has just landed.
Gameplay is challenging (in a nice way), but I suspect it'll probably become repetitive if I would only manage to stay alive longer.
Maybe make the extinguisher and the water-balloon take up a different slot?
It would hurt the simplicity a little bit, but may be worth it for the increased strategy and would help you stay alive juts a little bit longer.
Or maybe just make it so you can pick up multiple items (with a low limit of course).
Small typo: 'to protect youR land'.
