A really great job, and so cute! We send you a fish (cause we are a dolphin and that's what they do)!
PS: I saw this game from ur blog asking for ratings, if you want people to see your game you need to rate [others](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/shooting-stars-fps-match-3-in-space) games, unless ur game is really really good and people are sharing it, you generally get as many ratings as you give out.
Thank you again for the kind comments, it means the world to me
Overall 4/5 Good job man.
The presentation is amazing, graphics, sound, everything! However, given the high level of quality, I feel the need to be a little tougher on the game as a whole. I just have a few critiques:
1. I really didn't like not being able to see the level as a whole. It was fun to think about how to traverse obstacles; it was not fun to make blind leaps of faith.
2. The lose condition isn't clear enough. It seems to be you die if you don't touch the goal by the end of a turn unless you grab a crystal? This could be clearer.
3. Spikes aren't fun. With them being on a real-time clock, it really doesn't add challenge, (just frustration,) and I don't feel they reinforce your main mechanic (turn based platforming). I do feel that they could be really interesting if they acted on a per action timer though, (changing state every so many cards or whatever,) in fact I'd add more obstacles and elements that interact with both the player and the flow of cards.
4. Small note, but given the other issue, when I died, I was frustrated to wait for the game over animation to end. It's not long, maybe a few seconds, but it feels long when you just want to try that again. It's a puzzle game, when you've figured out the puzzle, you don't want to wait to implement the solution. :)
All that said, I really enjoyed Spiky. Very well done! I hope you take this further, I would love to play a more polished version of this game. Take the feedback from this thread, and go make something amazing for us to play!
@Darby-Costello thank you! I wasn't sure if I were gonna to continue the idea because I didnt knew how people would receive it, but reading some of the comments I'll be going back to work and improve the heck out of the game, thanks again for the support!
@FireHawk thank you for the kind words, it means a lot, really ^^
@creepyounguy thank you for the comment, I really appreciate it, the thing about the camera was that there was some doubts about if it'd spoil too much of the level and miss part of the experience, but seeing some of this comments it's clear that I'd add a lot more to the experience so it's something that I'll be adding soon, thanks again for the feedback!
@PixelProductions thank you for the feedback! The camera thing is something I'll definitely be implementing in the coming days! Thanks again for the comment :)
@digitaldude555 Thank you for the comment! I agree about the theme, it's my first ludum dare and I was really afraid of not coming up with a better idea and running out of time so I ran with this all the way through but I agree that I could've exploited the idea of opossing genres much better, but that's the only way of learning! Thank you again for the kind words, truly.
@funisfun8 Wow... that's a lot of feedback! Thank you thank you thank you, to be honest I completely agree with all your points, I really considered adding the camera thing but my mate thought that it would spoil part of the experience but looking back at it its really something that should be added and I'll definitely will in the coming days.
The traps that acted more in a turn based fashion was definitely something that crossed my mind when making the game but time constraints plus lack of a super clear vision of how to implement the levels at the time made me doubt but again, will be something that I'll add in the future, real time really didnt fit that much the concept of the game, also the things about the lose conditions and the delay with restarting are stuff that I'm going to fix for sure!
Again thank you for the amazing comment, I cant believe anyone would take the time to write something so nice and detailed about the game, thank you, really.
please check out our game if you have time! :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/harvest-doom
The graphics looks so cute and it remembers me of Paper Mario haha :P
Btw I see a lot of future in this game outside of LD, like really, you should continue working on it guys, it's amazing! .w.
And do you have a cat on your profile. I love love you.
I felt lost at level 8 and had to quit. Not being able to look across the level is something that frustrates me a little bit, but besides that it's a very solid entry, with fancy art and really cool music! Congratulations!
@elHombreBanana Thanks man! As other have said the camera thing is definitely an issue that I've already adressed, I'll be posting a webgl version with many fixes and improvements and new levels if someone is interested!
Again thanks to all the others for giving feedback believe me I'm taking it super seriously and implementing all of your ideas :)
So where shall I start with the feedback/criticism?
Let's start with the graphics.
Some nice combination of 2D in a 3D world. The whole game feels well together while 2D and 3D isn't normally something that u see together as they are mostly not compatible(hint hint). Next time maybe use a better font, the one used doesn't suit the art style.
The dark levels are too dark. It's hard to even see the blocks where u can stand one. Lighten the blocks, or something so that it can be seen better, but that's the only downside of the dark levels.
Watch out with what u write. There are quite some mistakes in english.
Audio:
Fits really well into the game. Calm but it's still there. Nothing really to say. In the future add more diversity if you are going to continue developing the game.
Now onto the more interesting part, game mechanics and game design of it.
First of all congrats on the implementation of the idea it's really well done. The basics work well, and makes it interesting while not missing something. Most of the things I'm going to say after this is mostly extra things to make it better.
Just read some comments above, most of the feedback was already given by @funisfun8 nice catch there mate!
I want to emphazise on one thing and that is the allowance to see the whole puzzle. Would be nice to not have to do it by trial and error.
Also, maybe add some kind of grid, so that people know how many squares away are the boxes. You can get the feeling but it's never sure.
Lastly the UI would need an upgrade. These are probably not u're strong points. Take a look at other games to see how they've done it for inspiration and then adapt it to yours.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! 😊 Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/wizsnooks)! 🐳
ps. It took some time, but I completed all levels!
@hs-dave thangs for the kind words, truly
Also I'll be rating all of your games as soon as I get a moment, again thanks for the feedback <3
This is such a good idea, it's my favorite game so far ^^
