Great use of the theme and a fun little puzzle game to boot! One of my favourites so far :)

Wow, really cool game. The deep really adds something to sokoban...

I like how you explain mechanics, and I like your level design (the last took me a while...).

Congratulations!

Traditional box pusher now with height setting! Amazing! Good pixel art, makes object connection cause its eggs and pan.

Yeaaa i always look forward to your game :) This one is really cute. It's definitely hard to read the heights of the tiles, but with a little fiddling it's really not too bad. The crate/box logic is very satisfying.

It would be cool if you could walk onto an egg (breaking it obviously), then you could have a puzzle or two where that's hard to avoid. And speaking of which, you might already know but it's possible to walk onto an egg when its on a crate... I assume that's a bug? It lead to an odd but interesting solution to level 16.

Anyway, great game as always! Level 21 was awesome.

I tried your game with a friend. I really like puzzle game and I enjoyed yours ! The graphics are cool, however sometimes the different 'levels'/perspective can be a bit difficult to understand. You could maybe pick 3 different shades of yellow to helps us see the 3 levels (I found out that the black outline were designed to help us, but I think this could make it easier :D). Your level design was nice too with a good progression to help us undertand all the mechanics.

Really clever puzzle, each new mechanic is introduced perfectly, and everything feels well polished. A great entry !

Great work. I played through to level 11 with my wife until I had to close the game because she was getting too obsessed! This is a compliment. The only issue she found was struggling to differentiate between the height of the blocks. I didn't have that problem though. Great work, keep it up!

Very fun concept and great level designs. Level 4 was super interesting; had me going ooOOOOh and then reversing a bit a few times. Only thing is that i found it very hard to tell what the heights the blocks were

This was really cute! My brain got tired on the last level so I didn't beat it, but it was really good. The puzzles were very well-designed, the buttons raising up when you hover over them was a nice touch, and it was a very solid game. My only complaint would be that it's hard to tell the platforms apart when higher ones are in front of lower ones, as the brown panels and height difference don't stand out very well, which makes solving the puzzles harder since I can't really "see" the puzzle as well. Still, I enjoyed it a lot!

Fantastic Game! You actually found a way to polish a game jam game. That's awesome. Let's get some super catch music and get swipe controls and you can put this on mobile and sell RIGHT NOW!! It's definitely good enough. And so many people would play this as a mobile game!!! I don't know that for sure, but honestly, don't you think so?

It has a really nice feel to it! Well polished, I like the sober graphics too, and the puzzles and mechanics are well balanced, pretty unusual for a jam game! Congratulations :)

Easily the best game I've played this LD. Amazingly much content that ramps up difficulty nicely, incorporates the tutorial into the gameplay, and provides genuinely interesting puzzles. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I find something of this level of quality in an LD.

Only improvements I could point out are that:
Even just a simple music loop in the background would have been nice.
It was a bit difficult to differentiate between the different height levels at times, but it was surprisingly intuitive, and didn't bother me nonetheless.

A lot of interesting levels, almost all of them. I missed the sacrifice part, more levels where you are forced to lose eggs, I guess that was the idea? The aesthetic is a classic for Steven Miller, solid and coherent.

Really clever little puzzler! Height differences add nice depth. Only thing I would improve is making the height differences in blocks easier to distinguish.

Amazing game, awesomely polished! At first the heights are hard to distinguish, but you get used to that really fast. It's astounding how much content you managed to create in just 48 hours! Easily one of my favourites.

Pretty great! Like the style, puzzles are all interesting, and have a good difficulty curve. I would have liked a little more animation when something falls down a level, sometimes I didn't quite catch what happened, though undoing and watching again did always let me figure it out in a second or two.

I found the way you dealt with heights and pushing very unique, and not quite like something I'd ever dealt with in another game, worked out really well for this game.

The last level was splendid!

I was unable to win without breaking some eggs.

I love the concept, the aesthetic and the gameplay. One thing: maybe you should make clearer the difference between height steps, they were a bit difficult to distinguish.

Fun idea for a puzzle game, solid work.

You could make the height differences easier to see by just making the lower levels darker for example. Otherwise the graphics style is quite nice and everything's clear.

There's an impressive amount of levels - on the other hand not all of them felt that different, a bit less may have been more in this case. Level 21 was cool, difficulty spiked but it was an enjoyable brain-teaser.

Ahh, great use of the theme and I love that you converted a common saying ("you have to crack a few eggs" and such) into a clever puzzle mechanic. It's a bit hard to read the depth in the orthographic perspective, it might work better in isometric, but the layering you did with the sprites was good as a shorthand for height. Really the only problem is that all of the levels were possible ;)

This is a spectacular puzzle game with very clever progression. The introduction of new ideas and "mechanics" is super well thought out and intuitive. The presentation of the game is excellent and the amount of levels and content is really impressive. One of my favorites that I've played so far. Fantastic job!

cute little puzzle game

i had to quit because it was really tiny on my screen (my resolution is really huge on a normal-sized screen) and I couldn't tell how high the platforms were in relation to each other.

overall i liked the concept but i wish it was easier to read the level design

I need to admit, I love your work. Your puzzle concepts are always new and innovative. WHat I find lacking though, is the "game feel". There's hardly any sound and no music, which I understand might be from time constraints or lack of ability to make audio, but I think that your should team up with someone who can do the assets and really make your game stand out. Great job!

I like the "break a few eggs" linking with the theme, a neat little game here, shame that the relative lack of audio
🎤 stevenjmiller
05. Dec 2018 · 22:40 UTC
@nnnikki I agree, the lack of music is unfortunate and mostly due to time issues (I lost around half the weekend to a project for class). I should probably look into getting someone to do music for my other jam games, though I plan on sticking to compo for Ludum Dare since I find the harsher rules more fun. That said, there is actually a sound effect for everything that happens in the game (moving, undoing, one for pushing each object, and one for each object falling). They may have been too quiet, I have a habit of keeping things at a fairly low volume.

Your idea is very unique and hilarious in a positive way
I like it! What i do not like are the graphics, in specific the way you represented the different heights.
Sometimes I could barely get used to it, what height which tile is. That made the game more difficult it has to be.

Excellent design. I wish there was a solution for level 21 somewhere because I kinda get most of the idea but can’t afford to spend enough time putting all the pieces together… *edit:* nevermind, I couldn’t sleep so I eventually solved it

Love it! 5 Stars for fun! My friend and I are your fans.
Awesome level 21! And I realy like the simple art style. But the theme is a little weak.

I'm trying to design a level for study with your source code. Thanks for your sharing.
🎤 stevenjmiller
11. Dec 2018 · 19:02 UTC
@gogu Thank you, and I apologize in advance for the source code. It is a complete disaster, as my implementation of height was very short-sighted (there is also a bug that I don't think is fixed in that version where you can occupy the same tile as an egg if you move from one stool to another of unequal height). Levels aren't too hard to make with the way I have it set up, the only in-level code you need is if you want a stool to be taller.

I got hung up on 16 and 21. Gunna keep trying this evening.

This game is clean and has a cool theme on top of it. The sound and art are simple, but clean and the puzzles generally feel pretty dang good, especially for a jam game -- so nice work with that! I've been wanting to do a puzzle game, but 80% of that is getting a mechanic that you can explore. It looks like you did that very well.

Graphics are nice and puzzles are tight but pretty hard, and I wasn't able to beat it unfortunately. Would love to see a walkthrough for the game! The main issue I have is it's hard to see the height, which makes the puzzles much harder to solve since I can't tell if a move is legal sometimes.

19. Dec 2018 · 21:08 UTC
This is really brilliant. As was already written, I very appreciate the level design slowly teaching you game mechanics, and also not too steep progression of difficulty. What is included is great and creates perfect mood (I even enjoy the silence only interrupted by subtle and decent action sound feedback), what is omitted is not missing. Perfection without what would be extra

A very clever puzzle game where all pans must have an egg. My only suggestion is to make the tiles more recognizable on the height since the tint can be confusing on other players. Amazing work on this one.

Big puzzle fun over here. Loved the concept, level design and presentation. Lots of clever things there. The only thing that didn't really let me enjoy it was height representation, it was quite hard to tell which height each tile had. Maybe they should have different color sets.
