Shoulda, Coulda but Didn't by Budaniel

[raw]
made by Budaniel for LD 39 (JAM)

Buddy and Will need to get to Aaghshop, so help them get their rickety old electric car to the store without it running out of power (or breaking down from hitting stuff). Ram power poles to get more power but watch your car's health!

Nice voice acting! :D Also I like the main menu. Car controls feels a little wierd. It would be cool to hear engine sounds.

You know what bud, it took med 15 minutes to get to this god damn store, I don't give a flying falafel if you want to go to a different store!

I did enjoy your voice acting, it would have been nice with more :)
The game felt hard, but not..... Challenging if you know what I mean. There were what? Two powerpacks? And even if you only stayed on the main road you barely made it. It could have been fun to have to go through some more challenging areas to get the powerpacks. Another thing was that I did not feel like I knew where I was going or how far I had left. Once my car flipped over and after that I did not know if I was going backwards or forward, maybe adding a minimap or a "distance left" meter. On one of my tries I think I ran into a bug, I tried my breaks in the middle of the road and after that my car would not move(I had about 25% power left)

First game I played with DIESEL POWER !!! (oh, maybe not haha!)

Likes:
- really funny real life voice overs, great!
- multiple radio stations, hah
- you get to drive on a seemingly open world highway!
- driving off the roads to collect things feels ridiculously overpowered (I like to think I have 50 tons worth of trailers behind my rig)

Challenges:
- the view distance is a bit low
- what does the space bar do exactly? feels like accelerating, but it's braking. more or less... :)

Overall:
- a pretty different entry with funny dialogue and a neat trucker flair

Nice little game! The voice acting is pretty cool, and having different radio stations is neat anyway! Areas of improvement to me could be clearer power ups (their effect and "pick up feedback") and faster pacing. In the middle while driving i shortly forgot where i was going, but the road sign reminded me ;)

There's personality between the two main characters which is good. May I suggest to increase the draw distance on the camera. It was a little hard to focus on the road when the mountains and background were suddenly being drawn and redrawn unless that was part of the experience, if so then A+ :)

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_RV8hzvGH4

Reminded me of Jalopy: not bad for a LD game. Great Work!

Nice game! The theme didn't really fit though...

Some more backstory would improve the game, and the loading could be improved, so you don't see the world loading in as you drive. Maybe some fog could improve the situation?...

Also I found myself out of power way to quickly. Maybe some more energy pods?

Overall, nice game, but there is still a lot more that could be done to improve it!

Not bad, but like @jason200101 said, it could certainly use some more backstory. Maybe up the camera's draw distance too

6/10 would have mountains come into existence suddenly

Positives:
- Nice job on the voice acting
- Fun idea, I like the first-person driving and the setting
- Enjoyed the slightly weird music and changing between radio stations :)

Opportunities for improvement:
- Level design / gameplay is a little weak in comparison - not much to make the challenge interesting, skillful, want to go back and do better next time, etc

Overall though, nice :)

Nice game! :)

I liked the map design, the goofy voice acting/music, and the controls. Flooring it into a pole and flipping end over end into a mountain lake was really fun!!
