We're pretty much done!?

My entry for the Ludum Dare Jam #38, themed "A Small World".

...Protect the precious small world!

The game is completely playable on browser and touch devices. Touch and drag anywhere on the screen to aim, double tap to bomb and kill all enemies on screen!

Powerups will either give you a better shot type (or extend the duration of your current powerup) or give you an extra bomb, up to a maximum of 3. You can also just let them fall to the planet to regrow its health!

Tap on the tiny planet to pause the game. The World!

Due to severe and unexpected restraints in the free version of Construct 2, the software I'm using, the game ended up being a lot more simple than I had planned, so for now it's just an arcade-ish thing. Go for a personal highscore!!

While I did much better than in my last jam, I am still not satisfied with the result thanks to Construct 2's constraints on free users, so I'm honestly not expecting much here. If, though, there's enough nice feedback (I mean I don't expect anyone to be excited for a "full" version of an arcade shooter) I might get hyped enough to migrate it to Game Maker or somewhere else and actually make it a bigger game.

Anyways, hope you get a few minutes of fun out of this!

Man I wish I could make music

Thank you and see you in the next JAM!!

This game is pretty fun. I liked the balance between weapon effectiveness and enemy waves, I had to really micromanage my shots and character placement to feel like I was driving them back. The art is nice, although I'm not sure why a teenage Cyclops from X-Men is doing the splits and protecting this planet

The bombs were meh for me - when the challenge ramped up, it seemed I had unlimited bombs to clear the screen and get new powerups I think it would have been more fun and challenging to maybe make the powerups stronger or longer lasting, and then dramatically limit how many bombs you have and how quickly you gain them.

I eventually self-limited my bomb usage and finally lost a bit over 100,000 points. Thanks for a fun game!

Thanks for the review!! There's a bunch of stuff I didn't think of! Sadly I ended up being too limited by the framework to add even the stuff I did think of... But I'll keep it in mind if I decide to expand on this game!!

Hey! Nice game.
I felt very little to stay engaged with shots when one tap re-orients the firing angle. No need to drag when you can just tap an incoming bug and the lasers instantly take it out. Perhaps needing to drag it may fix that, but I'm unsure that would make it more fun haha
In any case I really liked how you made the life system; that the planet died a little every time it was hit.
Regen is a great match to that system.
Cute!

Cool little game. I liked the graphics but the sounds could've been better. Solid gameplay as well, the difficulty rose at a good pace.

Thanks for the reviews and for trying my game! I wondered about the reorienting control as well but in the end I had too little space to do anything about it... And yeah, testers kept telling me to at least add music but I didn't have time for that either ;;
