Hey Ludum folks, i hope you will enjoy this entry for the 40th Ludum Dare. This time was a bit different, because i had only Sunday Night and the whole Monday (took the day off) to get a playable game done. This theme was very difficult for me, because i did not came up with an idea anytime soon. Finally i got something i do enjoy: Reindeer Runners :deer:.

In Reindeer Runners you control a lot of reindeers with cute reindeer names :smile: who are following the alpha reindeer. But watch out for traps or other obstacles they've to avoid! The first character of their name indicates the key you have to press in the right moment.

Every now and then another reindeer joins the reindeer herd. The more reindeers the more fun :smile: The more stages you master, the harder it gets.

You can return to the main menu by pressing the escape key at any time during the run.

I thought the game was broke when i tried to click on the R in rudolph, but I got it!

The text is a little hard to read, but the concept is very good and well executed. I really liked the voxel art style. Also, that song progression from Mario to Jingle Bells was amazing, +humour points for that!

@PixelFormedStudios I found this 8-bit track on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/fco_rmz/03-jinge-bells-8bit-version and fell in love immediately :D So, props for this guy :)

Really interesting take on the theme! It's simple, yet challenging and perfectly fitting. The only thing that could have make it even "worse" (if we keep the theme's words) is to change the order of the reindeer from time to time, to force the player to go out of his comfort zone (I managed to go up to 29 just by saving my first reindeer alive :)).
It's efficient and impressive, even more if we consider the time you had to make it!

Great game! The voxel graphics and the Christmas mood. Perfect combination!

I like the music and the idea. There are some bugs, though (e.g. keys not working when the reindeers are in the shadows, keys not readable).
