René in outer space

screen.png

René needs your help !

The universe is collapsing, space is running out and René needs to escape.
Use your navigation skills to help René survive as long as possible.

Navigate through space

Press WASD (or click on the keyboard to switch to ZQSD) to move René
Press the space bar to use the bonuses in your inventory

Avoid harm

The vacuum not only attracts you, but also asteroids and other space hazards.
Try not to hit them or they will push René to his doom !

IndestructiBalls (blue shield spheres) won't be affected by gravity or any other variable, don't mess with them.
TrackingBalls (red shield spheres) work the same but also have an unexplainable attraction towards René, be sure to gather vertical speed to get through their control.

Use some help

Collect stardust

At a regular pace, stardust will be attracted towards the vacuum.
If René eats it, he'll be able to use some pretty handy powers.

But there's a catch !

Each time René eats stardust, he'll inflate and take more and more space on screen.
René's elasticity has a limit and he won't be able to retain more than 3 units of stardust.

Catch all you can

Do not miss on stardust, if it gets vacuumed, universe's collapse will speed up and bigger elements will be attracted.
You cannot collect anymore stardust with a full belly, think ahead to not let it go to waste.

Use some powerfull abilities

Three powerups are at your disposal, The bigger you are using them, the stronger they are.
Choose wisely when to use them for maximum effect !
Do not forget that only asteroids can be destroyed and other space objects won't be affected by powers.

Green stardust

-Small René will shoot an energy pellet in a straight line, breaking the first meteor it will encounter.
-Medium René will shoot three energy pellets in a steady spread.
-Big René will shoot a powerful laser straight ahead, destroying every single meteor on its way.

Blue stardust

-Small René will slow down time for asteroids, leaving them easier to avoid until gravity pulls them again.
-Medium René will stop time for asteroids during 4 seconds, after that, they will move exactly like they used to.
-Big René will bend time and space to space out new hazards' arrivals.

Violet stardust

-Small René will spin intensely until stopped by an object. His spinning speed will break an asteroid.
-Medium René will spin and lunge towards the right end of the screen, he will go through any item, breaking all
asteroids on his way.
-Big René will firmly spin through any item, for 4 seconds without stopping.

Grey stardust

Nothing magical about this dust, only stomach pain. Its only use is to fill René up to use other powerups at their best. Do not forget to use it quickly as it does not have any use as is.

Note on the jam

I made everything myself, using JS and Phaser 3.
It was the first time for me using this lib and, although I did not understand everything in the making of this game,
it has been a pleasure to use.

I've been wanting to participate into Ludum Dare for a while and I'm glad to do it for the first time.
Been passionate about game making for a while now but rarely finished a satisfying project.
Now I can proudly say that it is the case here.

I used audacity and a mic to do all the sound and bgm.
I used Gimp and a graphic tablet for the art (not a big drawer but I know a few tricks)

I can't say I really got the hang of it, but the audio (both the music and the SFX) was amazing!

Good work! I liked the art despite it not being mindblowing or anything. I think René in particular has a certain derpy charm that makes the whole thing work. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to hear any audio (could have been my browser or maybe my headphones), so I won't rate you on that. The gameplay was fairly well executed with the controls feeling floaty but on purpose so the player has to get the hang of them if they want to be good at the game. I feel like you had a few too many gameplay elements going on with the different powerups and the way they interacted with René's size, but I may just be being simpleminded lol. I had some fun, regardless. Overall, solid work!
