Catchinko by Team Yarn

[raw]
made by Team Yarn for LD 41 (JAM)

Catchinko was supposed to be a roguelike pachinko maze game. Due to timeconstraint it is now just a pachinko maze game with a cat.

The goal of the game is collect as much yarn as possible before you reach the end of the pachinko maze. Use the cursor keys to move the Cat.

The game was created in Unity by Team Yarn at the OBI office (thanks!)

Yay, it's fun! But it also requires so much RAM (like any Unity WebGL game does -_-). So shiny cat's face, looking at it made me forget all of my troubles. =)

Nice idea, it's satisfying seeing the cat bounce around. It felt like the game almost played itself! I didn't feel like I had much agency over the direction of the cat. Nice rainbow tail though!

It's certainly a cute, fun little game, if a little bare-bones, but I don't like the sound design at all. It sounded like the lead piano was out of tune, or playing a completely different scale to the rhythm one.

Nice colorful/friendly art style! The rainbow trail is a nice touch. I also thought the music suited the game nicely. Would have liked to try it with the rogue-like mechanic but jam timeframes are tough! One suggestion for the trail - when the cat teleports you should use .Clear() on your trail renderer so the trail doesn't draw from the old position to the new position. Nice submission!

Cool! I always like playing physics-based games. I like how you have just enough control to move in a general direction but you need to take the physics into account too - there were some cool moments where I was able to build up enough momentum to get yarn that previously seemed out of reach. My best score was 28. Nice work!

Good job. I would like to see how rouge-like would have been incorporated into it. Bouncing around was fun and I liked the music a lot. I though the exciting piano music was kind of funny with the rainbow cat game.

Very cute and entertaining game! Only two critiques from me:

- Some times the yarn text in the top left is tough to read. Maybe put a light colored panel behind it, or give it a light colored stroke for readability.
- The camera is pretty rigidly locked to the character. This can get jarring when going through the gauntlets. Maybe smooth out the camera a bit so it is not a 1:1 lock on the character.

Nice work!

Although you didn't have enough time to do what you wanted, it was still really cute and fun, good job!
