Running Out of Space! by ArtemFTW

[raw]
made by ArtemFTW for LD 42 (COMPO)

My submission for Ludum Dare 42. This is actually the second game I ever made! I wrote it from scratch using C++ and the SFML library. Move around the the A and D keys. You can use potions to increate the player speed temporary. The more you drink, the greater the affect is. Avoid picking up items for as long as possible!

I like the music alot! Very fun idea to use the theme on the inventory too. With a few more surprises and mechanics this could be a great mobile game, i think!

Really like the aesthetic and music! Do you mind me asking what did you use to make the music?

Nice sounds and graphics! Have you used Aseprite?
The game is theme fitting and really fast paced, it's a bit hard but not too much.
Good work! Good luck for your entry :>

At the end of the day the game is just a simple left-right dodging setup, but I do like the theme of inventory space you've got going. Like @biodiesel mentioned, this setup could be really interesting with some more items, especially ones that would let you clear inventory space or destroy items in your path. That would offer more of an incentive to collect some items, even though they might bring you closer to death.

I would have liked hotkeys to use the potions, since my touchpad locks up while I use my keyboard. Also, the speed boost didn't seem to work properly; at least I didn't notice any speed increase, even though the sound effect played.

My final score was 37.

@amras0000 I didnt feel the speed at first but then i figure out its the horizontal speed that is increased.

inventory concept is interesting

Maybe make the game could be a bit faster overall.
In the main menu it says a and s, but it is a and d Key.
Nice game.

Very cool idea with the inventory!

The hitbox might need some tweaking, because it felt often like i picke dup items i didn't even touch.

Cool game idea! Could have used a bit more juice, i.e. different pitch of sound when you pick up garbage, or a screen shake. The sound and music fit the 8bit graphics style very well, I liked that. Also very good to have a simple but effective menu. I only noticed very late that the score increases very very slowly, is there a reason for that? Or maybe to encourage you to drink more potions? Hmmm, interesting.

Nice game but Collisions are too big, sometimes you take objects that are away from you, and potions effects seem to be so small that I couldn't understand the difference, adding a particle effect would make it much better. also after some time letting the player drop one or two items would be a good idea which will let them go further.
