ErixStein 3D by ThatSnillet

I totally missed that there was a LDJAM this weekend, so I decided to make a small game to still be able to participate. ErixStein 3D is a mix between an old mobile game called Erix and, of course, Wolfenstein 3D. You choose your own image, and then try to unravel as much of it as you want without trapping the ball bouncing around. When you feel done, your progress is generated into a 3D level, and you get armed with a shotgun, ready to destroy the pictures trying to devour you. You have to be quick though - your flashlight battery is slowly running out!
It's easily the most technically advanced LDJAM entry I've made, but it had really fun making it. It's a concept I'd love to iterate on, so please tell me if you liked it.
Have fun! :D

(There is a Linux version available at the link above, but you should keep in mind that its an updated and improved version. There are two changelogs available on the itch.io page though, so you should be able to get a relatively good impression of the original version.)
Stuff used: Unreal Engine 4, Blender, GIMP 2, Garageband, Bfxr

Good job!
Great experience!
The shotgun is very inconsistent for some reason though. At times the images take a single shot to shatter. Other times good 5+ hits. Seems to have something to do with distance and whether the image has been activated yet or not.
Good work.
It's actually a little unsettling running from Images because there's usually a chorus of the weird wibbly-wobbly-Imagey noise from all around and I can never tell if there's one creeping up from behind.
This is shockingly complex and shockingly fun. I approve.
The main problem is the disconnect between the mini game generating the level, and the actual fps game-play. The Qix side of things should have more of an effect on how the game plays out. For example, trapping the ball in as small of a space as possible should lead to some sort of benefit or reward. Additional mechanics would have helped too, such as having spots on the board that you might want to avoid filling in, which would lead to additional enemies or traps in the level.
As of right now, it just seems like a sort of gimmicky level editor, where the Qix and the FPS mode don't really mesh or connect together. Which is a shame, since it's a great idea.
Overall, A solid entry! The entry has great promise, and I'd love to see it as a more fleshed out game!
- Really interesting idea having one game that generates a level for another - definitely one of the most original I've seen in the games I've tested so far
- I'd love to see this taken further (and it might have given me a few ideas ;)
Opportunities for improvement:
- There was a lack of connection between the 2d mode and the 3d mode in terms of my motivation - it would have been cool if players are playing the 2D mode in a particular way to try and make the 3D level in a certain way, but they felt kind of random and disconnected
- I didn't quite get the rules of the 2D mode or what was meant by trying not to trap the ball - the ball that was bouncing around didn't seem to have any effect on anything, and sometimes the level just started up? When it said I could press the fire button to start the level, I didn't really understand why the choice was given to me
- It was an unintuitive start having to enter an address for an image with no Browse... window. Ended up alt-tabbing to copy paste something from a browser. Would have been good to include a bunch of images in the game to avoid the slow start.
Overall though - really interesting, good job :)
