What is Love by been

[raw]
made by been for LD 41 (JAM)

This is our mash-up of a Brawler/Dating Sim. It didn't quite turn out how we expected and we ended up creating a brawler which leads into a dating sim, but there's a few lessons to be learned there.

When rating, please note that the main backing music for most of the game was not created by us and should not be considered when rating for audio.

Change log

  1. I'd made a last-minute change before the final upload and somehow killed the main title screen, and didn't notice it last night. Done a quick update (after the deadline admittedly) to put it back, and also reset your health after winning/losing the game.

  2. Turns out that everyone but me is encountering a bug on the initial date screen where it loads up all the default dropdown menu options when it shouldn't display anything. I think it should be fixed now.

Controls

Movement - Arrow keys, WASD, Left Analogue Stick

The sounds were really funny, you definitely should have replaced the main soundtrack with the title music haha! I enjoyed the dialog at the end too!

fun game, I would recommend to focus on one mechanic though, the saying things was fun, and the part of sleeping people with your hearts was nice as well, but both had room to improve, and probably if you focused on one of them instead of doing both things, it would have been finished better.
Keep working and making nice things, videogames need more love and dialectical battles : )
Thank you for your effort and your game ^^

I failed several times and then had to give up trying to win. The simple graphics worked fine, but the music seemed to turn on and off for some reason. The fighting part was very easy, but then the mysterious dialogue was hard to figure out. But I suspect that was intentional, communication can be really hard!

Adorable character design and shooting mechanic. It would be interesting to maybe mix the genres a bit more somehow, now it's indeed more sequential. Still, nice work in only 2 days!

Lol it's hilarious. I loved the notes on the doors.
It would have been interesting to see the two genres mixed a bit more, but it is a good work nevertheless.

Fantastic dialogue options. I was disappointed to see that I failed -- I definitely picked the funniest option in every case. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I'd love to see the two genres mixed with each other a bit more, rather than one right after another. Also, all of the boys looked creepy ... perhaps that's why the pickup lines they dropped weren't effective.

Although--I think those pickup lines would've worked on me. Because they were hilarious.

Haha! Great concept and great game. Would love to see more polish in this in terms of the character movement and visual effects!

The singing in the intro cracked me up, well done! The idea is definitely interesting and I enjoyed the brawler part of the game. The dialog based portion was a bit confusing, but I did end up winning somehow, which is nice. I think some additional use of color might have been nice, perhaps something to identify enemies, I'm not really sure here. Anyway, nicely done!

Ha ha, nice job! Funny little game, though I couldn't manage to get a "win" state so who knows where I went wrong, lol. Anyway, good work and congrats!
