Phone Inventor by Xlip

[raw]
made by Xlip for LD36 (COMPO)
You want to prove the first phone of history you made is working...
So take the cable to poles and make phones working.

A,D OR "left-right" arrow keys: left-right
SPACE or "up arrow key": jump
E -extend the cable
R -agglomerate the cable
Q- throw the cable
X- Restart

I made a html5 version too.You can play from the web link. I couldn't make a tutorial or how to play explanations in game so it is good to watch video first.

But i recommend jar versions for more experience

The download links aren't working.
Worked about a hour ago, but now they direct to a dead domain apparently.
Just letting you know.

Yea, they're working now.

Great concept man, I really like the rope physics =)

Interesting game with an interesting mechanic. Surprisingly difficult!

Really cool game! Loved the mechanic and thought it was hilarious how scorpions made you explode x3! A little annoying that I had to close and open the game again each time I died or broke the cable

interesting concept though the mechanics seemed a bit finicky. I'm not sure what to do when the cable gets stuck to a block.

Yay I finished the gam, it was great! It is funny how i just dropped below the ground after i finish the game :p The game has very unique and interesting puzzles. I love the graphics too. I was kind of confused why the cable keep breaking at the beginning, it took me a while to figure it out but once I figure out how to stretch the cable and how to connect things, the game started to become more interesting. I guess a bit of tutorial would help there. One complain i have is that the enemy hitboxes are too huge. I swear I didn't hit that scorpion but I just kept exploding. I think this game has great potential, it just need some polish with the controls and adding more content. Well done!! I had fun with the game.

Ha, love the string mechanic, reminds me of Unraveled. Nice and simple art with good explained game mechanics, maybe the controls should be refined a bit. Good job overall.

Pretty looking. I like how the space between poles feels like on its own.
Which is nice for pacing the progression.

Nice game mechanics, like how you need to move across level with some limitation due to cable. Unfortunately, controls scheme is not best.

i LOVE it, very simple yet unique and fun

great take of the theme by making the telephone line, anyway our game kinda have similar theme, you made the telephone line, i made the telephone switchboard :D

anyway, the control smooth enough, the additional mechanic for roll up and roll out cable quite fun and challenging at certain time

very awesome entry for sure :D

Wow, it looks like a lot of work for a jam game! Well done! It was really fun to play, the death animation is really cool haha!

Really great and unique game.

I haven't seen gameplay like this before, the physics are pretty decent aswell. Overall i really like the concept.

Awesome entry!

Original and interesting concept... I also liked the graphics and animation. It worth to make a post-compo version.

@edve98 that comes because of brainless gwt application for html5 that libgdx converted. I fixed it. Thank you for your notice.

Very nice and polished game. The controls feel a bit weird tho... You may want to make them more intuitive.
The graphics are really cool and the physic just works perfectly

Nice physics mechanic, though it's a bit complicated to use. It might be a bit easier if the extend/retract buttons were mapped to the mouse or at least to different area on the keyboard so you could play it with two hands instead of one.

It seems like there's no reason to wait until the player manually resets after they hit something. You can't do anything to recover, so you might as well reset automatically. This would also make it more accessible for people who glossed over the instructions and might assume the game is stuck when they die.

On that note, I really appreciated that each pole checkpointed you; it would've been an easy thing to overlook but the game would've have been intolerably frustrating without that!

Kind of confused me what to do at the beginning... but it's pretty simple to understand. And I am not sure if I really finished the game because there is a gap in the last level...

Graphics were nice, but lacks audio. And it is better if you automatically reset, the physics and concept in this game is also good.

Nice job overall! The checkpoint on every pole is so needed XD or I'll be stuck forever.

A great idea, and a neat puzzle mechanic. It took me a little while to get used to it but once I got the hang of things it was really fun. Thanks.

Nice idea how to make platformer game more interesting, really liked the concept. I would add arrows to control movement, so you can use one hand for movement and other for controlling the cable.

Little unsure what was happening at first, the physics are really cool, has an interesting idea in there, feel it might not be as immediately obvious as what to do as it could of been, but overall i had fun with it, the graphics are very charming.

This is an interesting take for a platformer. The rope gave it a new difficult mechanic.

Very neat concept! But the mechanics was a bit too wonky to play it comfortably. Well done.

Nice idea on there. I liked the graphics very much, simple but effective, though some sort of audio would've been nice.

Finished the game, were on the run to the last pole.. and then fell through the floor. :D I did try to reach it several times, analysing where exactly that hole in the floor is, but sadly didn't manage to connect the last pole to the cable. Well some people will have their peace and silence without phones. ;)

Sometimes the physics were a bit strange. Felt like you're being pulled by the cable if you stand still. And was there a meaning in curtailing the cable? I just extended it all the way and had no problems. ^^

Awesome phone wire physics and nice pixel art graphics.

Some platforms feel slippery. Collision detection bugs, or expected behaviour?
