Stories are witty and fun to read. Like, I ACTUALLY want to read them. Especially short ones with crazy titles. Good job! Thanks for this experience, mate!
- I love that there are subplots that you can uncover. It really feels like what you put out in the paper makes a difference.
- The dialog with the dude could use some work, but for the time limit, it got the job done.
- Oniria, the world of dreams, is a really interesting idea and feels almost surreal.
- I like that the center image of the newspaper seems randomized, which makes each playthrough slightly different
- One suggestion I have is that once you choose a story to go into a section of the paper, it should be removed from the "Choose News" list (and put back if it's replaced)
I felt compelled to play multiple times until I uncovered the Arena plot and became a slave to tuna. For a compo submission, this is great work! I had a lot of fun!
The game is pretty solid. Very interesting take on the theme. Though the "we're running out of space!" messages seem forced, kind of like somebody telling a joke then jabbing me in the ribs to explain the joke and ask if I get it. (Yes, I get it.)
I really liked the not-entirely-related, spontaneous pop-up messages. The core concept of this game seems very effective-- conveying information about the game world and giving you a role in it, but it benefits from these sort of mini-breaks. I would definitely enjoy playing this kind of game with more padding between newspapers.
Awesome work!
I think a small UX improvement would be to show which page slots are taken up already during the placement sequence, as well as removing placed stories from the list as @lyxil mentioned above. Overall, amazing work!
@lyxil thanks for your analisys. Oniria is in fact a great world that we all have inside. I'm writting a book about it. The Arena and some other things are the differenciate concepts (but Intellituna just emerged during the jam xD). (Also @rosypenguin) Instead removing the news from the list, I think maybe mark it like "wrote" can be a good improvement. Thanks for the idea.
@acdimalev if you tell me your browser and OS, I can maybe fix it. Thanks for the feedback :)
@rosypenguin some UI improvements are planned... maybe I'll expand the game in the near future.
But you could to improve the UI in my opinion. It's too simple.
Otherwise, congratulations to you :)
GAME.
IS.
BANANAS.
Reminds me of the wacky headlines in Simcity 2000
I love the surreal sense of humour and how you've created an something that acts as an engaging simulation and interesting storytelling device *at the same time*
Lovely stuff!
It's nice not to be pressured despite the theme, the dialogues and the writing were interesting and funny!
Well done! 🤠
@mediyaz, @darylsteak, @jk-studio, @sand-gardeners thank you so much!
@adam-harms I'm thinking about an expansion. Maybe doing a more advanced "accounts" management could work. Something like choosing distribution places for newspapers and so.
(I did make the fishes win the first time, hehe)
Not sure I understood everything I did (I get some stories published will lead to a victory of the tunas or not, but for the thiefts?) but the ride was fun enough for me to replay it twice ^^
I would have loved to have a bit more different content based on the previously published news, but I understand you probably didn't have the time to add more articles!
Congrats! :)
