What an exciting Ludum Dare! This is the first one I've submitted in a long time. Finally, we are victorious once more .

You can play in the browser: https://thoughtreactor.itch.io/hovertank

Hovercraft 42 is a fun little survival top-down shoot-em-up with a twist. Aim carefully, as your missed bullets will create deadly walls. Dodge and shoot enemies to unlock more Missiles needed to destroy dastardly Orange Walls to survive an endless wave of enemy Hovertanks!

5 different random arenas. 3 pick-ups (Ammo, Nuke, and Health). 4 challenging enemies! How long can you survive the onslaught?

How to Play

Hovertank: Modern Wall-fare is a classic top-down shooter where the player's missed shots spawn deadly walls that kill him on collision. Use missiles to destroy your own walls and survive as long as you can.

Keep an eye out for more ammo, health, and the 'Nuke', which destroys all player walls.

Controls

  • WASD or Arrow keys to move
  • Mouse to aim cannon
  • Left mouse - fire primary weapon; if it misses and hits a wall it spawns a wall
  • Right mouse - fire missile; destroys player walls
  • Press ESCAPE in game to puase

Thats one fine game, fun and simple. Only thing, sometimes it gets stuck on the "press space" and nothing happens. Well done tho!

Only played 2 minutes now, but it is a really nice idea. Really enjoy the "missed" shots creating new walls restricting the area you have even more.
Visually it is really nice, and also the sounds fit it very well.
Runs very fluent as well. :)

One Bug I found that sometimes movement got locked. When I pressed W and clicked my mouse at the same time it locked the movement. So I would go endlessly in that direction unless I press W again. (same for the other keys A S and D). Does not happen everytime but occasionally.

Other than that really nice entry! Gonna play a few more rounds now :D

@oneplusone Thanks for the bug report! I'll have to take a look at that and see if I can't get a fix up. Glad you enjoyed it!

@guilhermoni Thanks for playing! I'll have to take a look at that bug and see if I can't figure it out. Haven't stumbled upon that one - could be something with WebGL, who knows?

This was great :). Love the idea behind your bullets coming back it really mixes up the gameplay. If i changed anything i'd make enemies spawn faster as it takes awhile before they start coming out. Great work!

@kamikaziuk Glad you enjoyed it! The spawn timing was one of my biggest questions before release. I need to add a way to spawn a batch right off the bat, instead of waiting on the timer. Thanks!

Man you can be really punished for any misses! So great, quick easy and fun to play. Nice work

Great game, a lot of fun. The game design and concept is very tight and thoughtful, the controls feel great, and it looks stylish. My only suggestion is to add more feedback to the player when you get hit, I found myself down a life every now and again out of the blue without even realizing. Other than that again, great game, very well executed!

The design is great. Errors can be really punishing but I think it's quite cool.

The design on this is awesome. There's such a great balance between trying to quickly get rid of enemies but having to be careful not to miss. Great job!

Love the concept. The walls make it really tense trying not to miss the enemies. Controls are solid, love the sounds. Here's a video of my play: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297349787

@mrjoshuamclean Thanks for the feedback! I'm planning on polishing it up some more and gamepad support is definitely on the list.

Sorry for the confusion on the data. Things changed mid-way and I didn't know how to update my submission to your list. Thanks for playing and featuring it on your channel!

Good entry ! It's a little hard (A fast paced shooter where you can't really miss your target, that's need some training !). The audio goes very well with the minimalist graphisms.

this is a very interesting game, it reminded me of playing the throne where you leave a trace that then hinders you. In this game, a similar mechanic. I liked it, I had fun. good job

Excellent game.

All (gameplay/graphics/sound/music) participate to a good mood.

A very refreshing version of a game known since a certain movie of 82 ;-)
