The Fishing by Corbak

[raw]
made by Corbak for LD 41 (JAM)

Hello everyone ! Finally finished our game for this Ludum Dare. This theme was quite tedious but we managed to get around and made a fishing / horror game.

Your quest as a worm will be to gather all the gems without getting eaten by the fishes otherwise it is the fisherman who will be happy.

The game is played only by mouse with the left-click button. It is best played with earphones and fullscreen mode :]

Hope you will like it and hopefully we will be able to test your game too ! Sorry for the mac version.

Cheers !

Dude, this game is really cool, i was hoping it would look like the gif tho, but still pretty solid, the sounds do give it a really "spooky" vibe and the controls are pretty tight, the fact that the fisherman just casually reels back a shark and keeps fishing like nothing has happened is hilarious, cool game :).

GReat Game. REally fun to play. Kind of addicting actually. THere's a few times where the fish didn't actually touch me, and it sent me back to the fisherman, but aside from that, great game overall.

@q-ro thank you, the gif was made in low quality that is why it has some "special effect" onto it :P but true maybe I should change it.

@akanthaur thank you for your comment :)

@nonso-m Thanks for the feedback, where did that happen when you got reel back to the fisherman ?

I love how you navigate the bait using the mouse button. The fishes are very annoying. haha

I loved this game - the difficulty was just right and the lights and audio really gave a sense of place and menace. Thanks!

Cool idea & concept, I love the controls of the sworm based on clicking, I like the overall ambiance, from graphics to music, the game is pretty addictive thanks to a growing difficulty and well balanced level design. Congratz for this solid entry :thumbsup:

Quite unique gameplay and also cool graphics. The reeling in animation is a bit long though

Really neat little game, I thought I was supposed to be catching the fish at first. ;) Once I got pretty far a fish snuck up on me in the dark and I really didn't want to start from the beginning again. Love the music though and the variety of fish.

This came was totally throughly awesome! The feeling and vibe were really well done, it really was creepy and awesome. I really liked that fish were like adversaries, but still got caught as well, so not really a win for them.

I like it, especially when you get the worm to the deeper levels. I would have liked to see the fish caught in the lower levels to switch the camera to the fisherman and just pull up the fish.

It went spooky real fast, haha. I like how the melody is all positive at the start and how it becomes darker as you swim deeper. Controls feel really neat, graphics is cool, I dont think I found any flaws in the game actually. great horror-fishing game with nicely chosen music. Absolutely well-earned 5 for the mood!

@HailBurns thank you for your comment :)

@Introspex thank you for your kindness :)

@Lamasaurus thank you very much :)

@nidup thank you for your words, we actually tried to put it well together. Things are still missing but we are pretty happy on how it turned out together :)

@Nehvis thank you :) yes you are right it is a bit long but we didn't have enough time to fix that. Thanks for the feedback.

@Bitten Toast Games Thank you for your words. Actually we missed time to put more elements to be able to give more hints

@Exlloyd Just a little bit :) thanks !

@E-rvin thank you, it was a bit hard to mash-up the theme but at the end it turned out to be nice :)

@gamesient thank you for your feedback, unfortunately didn't see it on time and as a developper when you know your game we can't see these little details properly. Hopefully we would fix that after the game jam ends because I'm not sure if we can bug fix during the vote

@GastricSparrow thank you, that was the point of making the atmosphere a bit creepy :)

@Narudgi happy to have made you smile !

@MaximBegunov thank you you are too nice ! We tried to make a little game bug-free until the end of the game jam but still many improvement could have made it :)

This was really cool. I had a couple wishes: that I could lure bigger fish to eat littler fish, and that the angler's lure looked like a gem, to fool me into grabbing it. I was compelled to collect all of the gems!

But… How is it even possible?! I was very afraid to be get by this awfull monsters in the abysses, with a… fishing/exploration game. Good job, for the game, and for the mood! I was a little frustrated that the fishs of different kind cannot eat each others, this would have add a strategic dimension, but this was fun to play anyways. :)

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. I'll admit I did feel fear with each fish the got larger and lager ^_^ Great usage of theme, and I'd also consider it somewhat of a platformer. The graphics all work nicely but they are somewhat out of tune with initial casting screen. Nice work on the audio and gameplay as well.

This was a really good game! at first I thought "great, fishing and horror, this will be really fun....", but it was actually implemented really well. Despite the fish graphics not looking too "real", that almost added to the horror with their animated mouthes, the sounds when they lunge at you, and the speed in which they devour your wormy self! You really set the mood and create good blend of two unconventional genres.

Awesome, one of my favourites from this jam. Things I liked - controls, audio, graphics, exploration, difficulty. A really well rounded game, very fun to play.

I love this! It starts out so whimsical and gets incredibly creepy as you go farther down - the sound definitely enhances that. The core movement mechanic works really well too. Great job!

@ragtagradical Thanks for the feedback, your idea is cool and we thought about it, but I don't think we will do a post jam version to include it. In any case thank you :)

@geckoo1337 thank you very much

@LeReveur thank you for your comment. The idea of luring a fish onto another is appealing and would certainly be fun to play :)

@akeean thank you :)

@Thy Duck Thank you for your kindness :)

@isaaclopinho thank you, your game is nice too we played it :)

@smaganik thank you for your comment :)

@FrostGunn thanks !

@hankworx thank you for your feedback. Not simple to combine 2 genre when you don't know which one will take over the other. But we made it possible to finish our main idea before the deadline and many polishing or ideas could have been implemented. But we are already happy that it gave you some shivers :)

@Honest-Dan thank you for your kindness and for your review on twitch too. Happy that it gave you some time to play and to finish it too with all the gems. That was well done.

@Dan-Matthews you are too nice, thank you for all of that :)

@RockinWatson happy that it gave you some heart racing moments, thank you for your comment :)

@mahalis thank you for your comment, nice to see that you got creeped the more you go down, that was the aim of the game :)

Fantastic game! Genuinely had a fun time as a littlw worm, and it was nice that once you're eaten by a fish it goes away, so progress through previous areas is faster. Excellent use of the theme and mood/music. Had a great time playing and can't wait to see future work by you!

Whoa, this was pretty fun! I found 75/76 gems before I found the anchor, which ended my game. I might have spent too much time in the early area, the music just stopped before I got to the deeper part where the music was more horror-esque. It would have been cool to have the music transition as you go deeper and deeper, instead of having the horror music play for the rest of the game once you go deep once. Overall, this is a solid game!

interesting mechanic. i got bored bause it takes too long to restart when you get caught. also its hard to see the fishes because of the slow camera and closes up view. also i thought you were supposed to get caught by the fishes because it counts how many you caught

@cristiano-m-garcia thank you. i don't think we will go further than what we have currently. We feel satisfied for this jam :)

@Rebecca-Kremer thank you for your kind words, and thank you for your streams too, hopefully you got to enjoy your sunday :)

@Amazura Thank you for your kind words :)

@Acuity your idea is cool. We would have done better if we had more time and stick everyhting together more flawlessly for sure :)

@Kainkun Thank you for your feedback :)

@Ruslana Thank you :) unfortunately, nothing happens in the game when you collect all gems. Couldn't implement it on time.

OMG. So many jump scares in this. You got me at every turn- i did not see the scary shark fish coming! I got to 72 gems and then hit the anchor.

I stopped playing after finding 58 gems. I just can't play a game where fishes are so scary, I just panic xD.

Great game, fantastic sound and ambience, and fuck those blowfish. Seriously.

Congrats!
