Jean-Micheng VS Goblins by lo-x

Jean-Micheng VS Goblins is a platformer-handball(sports) game.

cover.png

The goal is to score as much as possible against the Goblins team (AI). Use the plaforms to move out of reach, there is no referee so you can throw some punches to the Goblins, no one will care!

The is no win or lose conditions. Just try to have the best score you can. Beware, Goblins are unfair and will jump on the field if you score too much...

Important note: the throw/attack keyboard key is SHIFT (and not arrow up), both have an arrow pointing up on the keyboard, but only the first one works.

I wrote my game out of raw C++ with SFML. Graphics are done on Gimp, audio with sfxr and a microphone and audacity.

Great graphics with fun gameplay, although the Goblins seem to be a bit better. I still had a great time and hope you make it into a full game later!

win or lose conditions are missing for me. Goblins are playing so unfair :D

The gameplay is pretty good. So are the graphics! ^^ I know it's meant to be unfair, but it is to a point where it's not really fun anymore... One Goblin picks up the ball while the others are punching you and when he has it you have no way to catch up to him on his way to the goal. Also a little ball physics would've been nice. Good job tho ! There really is some potential here!

@all thanks for the kind comments

@TheGreenMan yeah the next step would have been a sprint and then some kind of area stun that would have helped A LOT. And of course win/lose conditions. But I was lacking time due to ~~making the art~~ writing the code hum..

The audio is awesome. The graphics are good except the animations could use some work. I think having a win lose condition would make the game so much better. It would give players a goal to strive for. I also feel like you could do more for the platformer side. It seems like its just a sports game with some obstacles. Overall its pretty good just needs a few more features and refining.

Beau travail!

There is definitely some potential here. I thought the graphic and audio were great. It would have been nice if the player ran a little faster. In the 10 or so rounds I played, scored nothing. Just kept getting punched.Once the goblin has the ball, there is no reason to chase him. you won't catch up. A moving platform might have made it more obvious you were combining the 2 genres. To me it a sport game and that just happened to be the arena it was played in

I like the audio, especially the clapping, felt like a real crowd cheering me on. Jumping felt very floaty, and jumping into a platform caused me to teleport above it. I think there's a lot of potential in your idea though, would love to see more without time constraints.

Very Nice! Like the graphics and specially the audio!

Check ours out, we also made a sports game, which seems to be the trend of this LD =)

If you look at a game like Rocket League the game is built around a simple core concept (hit the ball) with a twist (cars/physics engine). You definitely have a the same foundation, a core concept (score the ball) with a twist (platforming/slight-beat-em-up mechanic) but right now the goblins are a bit too aggressive. I still had fun for the few minutes that I played your game.

I would recommend making the player faster than the goblins, as you're already in a disadvantage by making it a 1v2, but it was still pretty fun. The platforming could use some work, and the animations need a bit more fluency, but other than that it's a pretty good game!

The zombies are overpowering! Amazing that this is made scratch from C++!! I kinda like the graphics and audio, it reminds me of this mobile game called 10000000 (ten million) by EightyEight Games :) It's a pretty polished looking game, hopefully there is more options for the player to grab the ball back from the zombie in the future!

A nice game but it felt quite unfair with goblins being able to move as fast as you - it was almost impossible to score at all, since if a goblin got the ball it was too difficult most of the time to catch up with them. I liked the art style though!

What a frustrating game ! There lacks some sort of action that could help you in this unfair battle. Impressive you did it with SFML !

This is soo fun, love the idea. It's kind of annoying that you are alone and in their team are 2 players and i can't win. But the game is pretty good :D
