INTRODUCTION

Before we get into the jiggity jig of the game, I wanted to present you with 90% of the conversations I had with my friends that played the game:

Hey Dan! I think object distribution and generation is really bad. Objects just spawn right in front of me not giving me time to dodge.

Hey random friend! My game is just like Dark Souls deal with it.

_ Laughter, Laughter, Cries of Laughter, and Claps _

Alright, now that I've made you laugh like you haven't in years let's put the jokes aside. I wanted to let you know that I had very little time to make all of this. During this Ludum Dare Event (which happens to be my first) I had to make a long trip to the airport, meet up with family friends and celebrate two family parties. Due to this and still having to make the music and graphics, I had to sacrifice a bunch of time from coding and testing. I probably coded this in 6 hours so take it for what it is.

CONCEPT

This game is inspired by the story Inferno by Dan Brown and the story Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The world is suffering by overpopulation. To fix it, a gas virus was spread all over the globe. To avoid it, you try to escape to hell (inferno) by throwing yourself in an endless ditch full of obstacles that you have to avoid.

HOW TO PLAY

  • Avoid the obstacles as you fall.
  • Use A and D or LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to move.
  • You cannot move vertically.
  • ProTip™: There is a certain spot you can stay where you will never get hit. Find it and you will fall forever (~~what a dream come true, right?~~)

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I would like to thank Bia Gascón, my girlfriend, for being my main source of inspiration for the piece.

(Ps. I swear, it is not her fault that it came out the way it did, she just helped with the story  )

I actually ran out of time in the development of the game but I did not want to miss out the chance to thank my girlfriend, Bia Gascón, for being the main source of inspiration for story behind this piece!

(Ps. I swear it is not her fault it came out the way it did)

The intro was promising, but the game itself was too simple. The audio made the game really fun, though. Nice!

Hey @girania ~ I agree. Thing is, this was my first jam and I had:

1) To take my grandma to the airport,

2) My father's birthday,

3) Father's day,

4) Get some things ready for uni that's about to start.

And... I was really sick. So I probably only had about 6 hours to make this ><

In any case, I hope you stick around for my next submission in December. :)

I red about your time issues, and I love when even with little to no time and a lots of problems, jammers still manage to create something.
This little game represent the love for gamedev and the spirit of Ludum Dare.

Nice entry and thanks for your work and your temperance, so I'll rate everything with 3 stars.

have a nice day!

@memel06 ~ Woah! You've left me absolutely speechless. This is the tenth time I try to write this reply but I can't properly put into words how stunned your comment has left me.

I am just really glad to have finally joined the community of jammers. Y'all are what keeps me going.

Btw, I haven't posted the videos yet 'cause YouTube doesn't seem to be allowing me to -_-

Obstacles appear immediately in the upper half of the screen and I immediately take damage without a chance to dodge :(

@alexey-akulovich ~ thanks for your comment! That's because of how I'm actually making the infinite gameplay happen - just looping it in one screen. If I ever touch this project again, I'll definitely improve it (:

Evocative of '09 appstore games. The intro was very promising, and the music loop was pretty catchy, but then it descends into insurmountable rng. There's some pretty serious ludonarrative dissonance between that nice intro and the gameplay. I would keep that idea in a back pocket and make a not "avoid falling blocks" game. Keep it up

Great you didn't give it up due to time issues! I liked the intro, and the concept. Obstacles appearing right under me, were really annoying. I must admit that I didn't play it for hours at night, but in 6 hours, nice work!

@sunny-sun ~ Hey Sunny! Thanks for your comment! I kinda guessed that most people would get hyped by the intro and then disappointed by the rest but, nonetheless, I am really happy you found the music loop catchy - it was one of the things I enjoyed doing the most (and probably just the third song I've ever made). Anyway, keep an eye out for my next game December! I won't disappoint :D

@pla ~ Hey Pla! Thanks for commenting on the game! I really had to rush with making the endless loop thingy so obstacle placement ended up pretty crappy. In any case, I'll keep your comment in mind if I ever decide to touch the project again and improve it!

Alright! Remade the game page and updated the logo image for something that wouldn't be covered by the game name and compo tags when it is displayed in the games page

Check it out:

cool idea, I think you should probably change it so that the obstacles aren't spawned so that they just pop up, now they appear seemingly out of nowhere and the speed of the player is too slow to actually avoid them. Some background-picture would have helped the player see more exactly where they are, now it is a little hard to see how fast you are falling. You really only get a sense of your speed once the obstacles appear and then you take damage. The font is cool though.

Still, you got a lot done in 6h, which is impressive. Well done!

Hey @wildcard ! Thanks a lot for your comment!

The overall gameplay with obstacles turned out a bit wacky. Also, I was planning on adding a background but couldn't make it in time to draw something I enjoyed. Glad you liked the font, though! ;D
