About

You are the loving father of a little boy. Your kid loves sweets and wants some ice cream. Of course you can not refuse the child, so your goal is to find the ice truck and get the portions the boy dreams about.

There is nothing simpler that that, right?

How to play?

  1. Check what kinds of ice cream your boy wants
  2. Go to the ice truck and (nicely) ask the lady for turning on the machine
  3. Catch portions that you need
  4. If you did not get it the first time, run the machine again.
  5. Go back to your son and make him happy!

ATTENTION! There is a high risk that the boy would like to be even MORE happy after he eats his sweets

Controls

You need a keyboard and a mouse.

| Button | Action | | ------------- | ------------- | | Left arrow or A | Move left | | Right arrow or D | Move right | | E | Turn on the ice machine | | Mouse | Cone balancing and character direction |

@billeclipse Yeah we had a lot of ideas to make the ice-cream gathering a lot more fun but unfortunately there wasn't enough time :) Thank you for your feedback!

The game looks beautiful and had nice music. I found it nearly impossible to make the correct ice cream scoop though.

Super cute!!! I didn't realize you could make multiple trips at first lol

@reality-blind Thank you! :)
@shinyogre Thanks! :) Actually, you can carry the ice cream multiple times to finish the level. But you won't have the best time (which will count in the next update) :)

I loved the graphics and mood of the game, controls were a bit tricky but overall pretty nice to play. Great job.

@wolfo Thanks a lot! We will be working on the controls so give us some time and it will get better! :)

That's hard but soooo cute ! The art and sounds gives such a great mood that really fits to the plot ! Great job (ho and you should definitely make your character turn when you come back from the kid it gives a weird moonwalking situation haha)

@tabass Thanks :) You can turn character with mouse :)

This is most definitely cute and well-styled game. Music gives it right mood. Controls are a little bit too hard to get familiar with, that makes this game unnecessary challenging, I'd say, but, overall, I liked it a lot!

The machine looked and acted more like a popcorn one, same for the scoops. Pretty fun though. Too bad there wasn't a score or something like that. Did like 10 trips and all i got was to go back to the main menu.

The first time I went to the left from the machine and then lost my character and had to restart.

@tutaratuta Thanks a lot :) Yeah, the controls are a little bit tricky. Unfortunately time was chasing us a lot and we didn't have time to improve it :( But surely will in the future :)

@goddess Oh! Thanks for reporting this bug! Such a base thing to have, so lame for us :D We'll fix that! :) According to the machine - that's true, it looks somehow more like a popcorn one, we'll think how to improve it to make it more like a ice-machine :D

really cute and fun game, the intro make me laugh. I had a camera bug and lost my character but until that it was fun.

oh congratulation! Nice art! Can I follow it also on indiexpo? Do you have also a page there? This looks great! I looked for the games that used the #LDJAM but I don't find yours. So good luck!! I will hope to make a video about it!

@nehvis Could you explain what makes you feel it "buggy"? :)

@namnam Thanks! The camera bug will be fixed today :)

@nivbeth Yay! :)

@roy87 We don't have any page on Indiexpo, but... Just give me a second :D Thanks! :)

@mollekake Happy that you like it :)

nice graphics but the scoops would fall out if you walked past your mouse. my fav part was moon walking!

very nice game! it's really good to watch the ice cream pile building up (though it didn't reach too high). Very nice art and music (though after some minutes I was considering turn it off, lol). Good job!

Super cute. The art fits perfectly with the concept, the and they physicsyness is really fun and stern moustache'd dad makes it hilarious
SaRNEh
07. Dec 2017 · 06:46 UTC
@oniwaka Actually it was made intentionally :D Because as you turn around rapidly with a ice cream it will totally fall down :) Although this force could be a little bit smaller so it you won't lose everything at once :)

@pcmxms Thanks! Yeah, well, we wanted to make it available to pile up to the sky but time wasn't our friend this time and we didn't manage to make this in the deadline :) But after LD we will surely add many, many improvements so it will be a lot more fun! :)

@duzzondrums Glad that you like it :)

Oh man, what a lovely little game, the sentiment is fantastic and the presentation is pretty good, decently polished. The music suits well, though the sound effects were a little off. Just a little.

My main gripe is that the main "interesting thing" is actually bad for the game - the best way to use the mouse control is to leave it off to the side of the screen and moonwalk everywhere, trying to use the mouse results in flips of the sprite that completely sends the ice-cream flying. That might have been fixed by centering the cone and rather moving the character around the cone, but anyway it is what it is now.

And because of that the game is just catching things and moving on. And the lack of failure means there's little challenge.

I'm not sure how the ice cream physics works, but they don't seem to really "stick", despite being not bouncy. That a perfectly placed ball would just roll off seems weird to me. So if the ice-cream physics were modelled better and more to "expectation" of how ice-cream behaves, that would probably make the game feel even better.

Overall, charming :)

@tuism Wow! Thanks for this extensive feedback :) Let me clear things out and tell you about our perspective: the main mechanics that we've thought about was controlling the ice scoops on the cone with the mouse so it would be more and more challenging every round. Unfortunately we didn't spend enough time and focus on the main thing and it left like it is. But as this is our first official game jam and playable project we're still very happy with the results :) Even tho there's a lot of improvement to be made. But that's how learning is done i guess :) Next time we will be a lot better :)

Of course, jams are a learning experience and that's the most important thing :) One thing I can suggest regarding the ice cream mouse thing is not to tie the ice cream to a mouse *location*, but to take the delta of the mouse's movements and apply them to the cone/hand/whatever. So you could move the mouse to the left forever and it counts as input left, like an analogue stick. That's how I implemented the movement in my LD game this time around and it works wonders :)

@tuism Hmm, sounds like a good idea :) We'll discuss it in our team :D Thank you!

Hi there! It looks like you've used 3rd party music assets in your entry. **Please OPT-OUT of the audio category in accordance with the rules.**

From the rules page at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules:

> **You’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created, but we ask that you OPT-OUT of the respected voting categories (Graphics, Audio).** You can opt-out of a voting category when you submit your game.

That aside, this was really entertaining, even though there's clearly more polish that could be done with the balancing mechanics.

One other thing -- not all of us have 16:9 monitors! I'm running 1280x1024, so in the beginning of the game, the child was completely off-screen.

@DDRKirbyISQ I've opted out from the Audio category. Thanks for pointing it out! I didn't opt out from Graphics tho as all of them are created by us on the jam. Also thank you very much for the feedback! :)
