Ice Dream by trnks

About
You are the loving father of a little boy. Your kid loves sweets and wants some ice cream. Of course you can not refuse the child, so your goal is to find the ice truck and get the portions the boy dreams about.
There is nothing simpler that that, right?
How to play?
- Check what kinds of ice cream your boy wants
- Go to the ice truck and (nicely) ask the lady for turning on the machine
- Catch portions that you need
- If you did not get it the first time, run the machine again.
- Go back to your son and make him happy!
ATTENTION! There is a high risk that the boy would like to be even MORE happy after he eats his sweets
Controls
You need a keyboard and a mouse.
| Button | Action | | ------------- | ------------- | | Left arrow or A | Move left | | Right arrow or D | Move right | | E | Turn on the ice machine | | Mouse | Cone balancing and character direction |

@shinyogre Thanks! :) Actually, you can carry the ice cream multiple times to finish the level. But you won't have the best time (which will count in the next update) :)
@daneeh Thanks! :)
The first time I went to the left from the machine and then lost my character and had to restart.
@goddess Oh! Thanks for reporting this bug! Such a base thing to have, so lame for us :D We'll fix that! :) According to the machine - that's true, it looks somehow more like a popcorn one, we'll think how to improve it to make it more like a ice-machine :D
@namnam Thanks! The camera bug will be fixed today :)
@nivbeth Yay! :)
@roy87 We don't have any page on Indiexpo, but... Just give me a second :D Thanks! :)
@mollekake Happy that you like it :)
@pcmxms Thanks! Yeah, well, we wanted to make it available to pile up to the sky but time wasn't our friend this time and we didn't manage to make this in the deadline :) But after LD we will surely add many, many improvements so it will be a lot more fun! :)
@duzzondrums Glad that you like it :)
My main gripe is that the main "interesting thing" is actually bad for the game - the best way to use the mouse control is to leave it off to the side of the screen and moonwalk everywhere, trying to use the mouse results in flips of the sprite that completely sends the ice-cream flying. That might have been fixed by centering the cone and rather moving the character around the cone, but anyway it is what it is now.
And because of that the game is just catching things and moving on. And the lack of failure means there's little challenge.
I'm not sure how the ice cream physics works, but they don't seem to really "stick", despite being not bouncy. That a perfectly placed ball would just roll off seems weird to me. So if the ice-cream physics were modelled better and more to "expectation" of how ice-cream behaves, that would probably make the game feel even better.
Overall, charming :)
From the rules page at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules:
> **You’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created, but we ask that you OPT-OUT of the respected voting categories (Graphics, Audio).** You can opt-out of a voting category when you submit your game.
That aside, this was really entertaining, even though there's clearly more polish that could be done with the balancing mechanics.
One other thing -- not all of us have 16:9 monitors! I'm running 1280x1024, so in the beginning of the game, the child was completely off-screen.
