Running out of Space by Andre van Zuydam

[raw]
made by Andre van Zuydam for LD 42 (COMPO)

I hope you enjoy the concept of my first submission, definitely tried to think a little outside the box on this one!

The game is definitely unfinished, the concept is there for further stages but seems like no time to implement any more ideas as the time I had didn't work out. Overall I got to try out Game Maker Studio 2 which I found very good and play around with Ableton and Affinity Designer.

@anstabo @314owen @rs11s21n @frontlinesaint Thanks for playing, definitely full of bugs, with some refinements will probably be better, level transitions definitely need work!

Nice Lunar Lander type of game. Graphics and sounds are very good.

I expected lots of (outer) space pun games, but didn't consider space (bar) games. Somehow you've accomplished both with one game - and it was fun. Very unique! Nice work!

@silvae Thanks, glad you got the humour! I didn't want to give too much away, part of the surprise.

I give up... Landing the second ship is just impossible! :D
Really liked the intro at the beginning and the overall presentation of this, very charming :)

Loved the art style in the introduction. Couldn't really get far in the game since I was seeing game over popping up randomly :(

Nice concept though. Maybe you could also play around with holding the space key, or adding other elements on the screen that could be triggered by pressing the key at precisely the right moment.

@crastinator Thanks for the feedback, deployment and publishing and testing came “late in the game” @josia-roncancio I may have been a little sparing with the spaces, thanks for rating.

This is a cool idea but it's kind of impossible... you can land the first one if you use up all your spaces, not so sure about the second one.

Love the font and the art style, and it surprised me while I turn to other tabs then come back. And it seems almost impossible to land the second ship :(

Ah, the proper hopeless feeling of old moonlander games! Nice interpretation of the theme

Really liked the popup illustrations in the beginning, humorous and a great way to explain the rules. Bonus points for implementing two different interpretations of the theme. Good stuff!

@quicklyer @frank-gevaerts @mathiouza @squirmonkey @dimlight You guys are so kind! Thanks for playing, I really hope I can do a better implementation in future. I did want the art and music and humour to be different. FYI, even the Jack coming out of the box was digitally drawn!

Pretty fun game! Is the second level supposed to give a game over on one crash, even when you have move spaces left? I also noticed that the spacebar didn't seem to register on keydown, only on keyup, which seemed counter intuitive.

Neat. Great as a first entry. Graphics are nice, music works well. However, there are some design decisions I don't agree with. The second level is dumb, because there's no way of knowing when you hit the ground. There should be a number representing the distance to the ground, similar to the speed. Also, you should figure out a way to add a restart button when you die. That way you could also make the tutorial only play the first time you play.
