As a mayor, leisure is important. But taking care of your city may also important. In Hyper Drift Mayor, you'll learn that build the most magnificent city can be done with style, at 150KPH on the highway and no break.

HOW TO PLAY?

Hyper Drift Mayor is an autoscroller, but also a city builder! Use your WASD/ZQSD keys to move your car on the road and pick some perks that will build up your city. As a politican, you main goal is not just to be loved by your kind citizens, but to use this love to get reelected by them.

To gain population, you'll have to work on your popularity. The more your people love you, the more strangers will come and stay in your city. The less you have, the more they will leave it.

To keep the popularity bar higher than the average, you'll have to balance the Housing and Industry bars as much as possible, with some help from the Ecology bar which will make your inhabitants more tolerant about the flaws of your city management.

A FEW WORDS

Made in 3 days by Freddy Clément (Code) and Alix Michel (Art).

There's a lot of small things to do, but we ran out of time. Some in-game explanation, balance, bug fixes... I'll probably do an "post-submit I'm sorry really" update tomorrow to fix a few annoying things, then make a post-jam release of the game we imagined.

Thanks for reading this, and thanks for playing (;

POST-SUBMIT CHANGES:

(2018/04/24)

  • Fixed tomato malus that didn't affect popularity bar
  • Added a population counter on game UI
  • Renamed game window
  • Slightly increased housing bar auto-decrease rate

The version submitted during the jam submission hour is still available, for reference, at

Graphically really cool! The idea is nice, too bad it takes too long between elections, that makes the core loop boring too quickly :/

I believe I would have made both a lousy driver and a lousy politician, the citizens didn't like me so much on my first game. I got reelected, but then the game crashed. Then I felt like a true politician. Great job! 👍
BTW Is the number of tomatoes somehow linked to the environment bar? As in, more vegetables on the trees => more on the road?

@Lucien Catonnet thanks bruh! Yeah 5 minutes may be too long... But it's the average time, with the current game balancing to have a decent looking/sized city, so we had stick with it for the jam version (;

Thanks for your feedback!

@Damienp oh! that means it's not that easy. Great! But it also means that it's broken. Not great :(

The tomatoes hurt your popularity bar, but the feature was broken on the first jam version, I fixed it on the next day but you may have played the first one :)

Thanks a lot for your message dam <3 <3

This was fun to play, good concept, well-drawn graphics. It would be nice if there was some kind of balance indicator around the player sprite, rather than needing to take eyes off the road to check the top of the screen all of the time. Great job!

Yep it's a good idea! We should consider that for the post-jam version ^_^

Thanks a lot for playing and your feedback @Smiling Cat Entertainment! (;

Interesting mix of genres and cool pixel art! I made it til reelection, at first game seemed too easy, but after tomatoes appeared it became challenging) It would be great if you add another pieces on the road so player decides what to build first(ex. school, hospital, shop) depending on citizens' needs)

@DiFFtY Please note I play on Linux, so a crash isn't so unexpected :)

Cool concept! I really liked playing as a cool cat politician (excellent artwork).

I found the time between elections a bit long and I could have used some music during the game to add to the mood. The fact that I had to change my priorities multiple times throughout to focus on different resources made the driving task quite a [bill](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/motherducker) more interesting.

Nice graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgRYnPldaL4
