Billy the giant hates dancing paragliders on a boat by Rombus

[raw]
made by Rombus for LD 40 (COMPO)

Hello everyone, against all odds I manage to finish something that ressembles a game :P I didn't have enough time to make something cooler for this one, but hey! at least I made a tune with pico-8's music tracker, that's something new for me!

Controls: - z pick up/throw - x slowness telechinesis (?)

Fast description:
- Only 5 levels - Burn alive dancing paragliders by throwing them to the fire - Too many paragliders on your boat and Billy will die - Delay paragliders landing by using your shiny forehead (use it wisely!) - Awesome retro grafics, music and SFX

Hope you enjoy it! I'll play & comment all games from people that comment below :D Good luck to all!

Nice! I lost my shit at the title, and the death credits. Also awesome to see PICO-8 on here.

I mean with a title like that how could I resist? This was awesome!

Which button is the circle with a dot in it? I wasn't able to play

@dolmann sorry for that! it's "z" and also "x" for slowdown waves. Added controls to description :D

I'm not sure I want to know how this idea came about, but the game is solid! It gets pretty hectic at the end.

I was not expecting this but I'm glad I found it. The retro art, music, and sounds mesh together into a cohesive aesthetic and the gameplay was simple and intuitive enough that I was able to pick it up despite somehow failing to read the control explanation. Except I missed the shiny forehead, the knowledge of which was what allowed me to actually clear the game.

The Title screen should have a better showing of which button to hit to start. Adding some slightly different guy falling would help change things up as the waves go, and possibly make some do something a little different, like run around. The slowness telechinesis was kinda cool but I didn't find it very useful :)

Those poor dancing paragliders... my ears are doing fine, though, due to the crunchy tunes of this game. I love seeing what people come up with!

Congrats on your new music tracker. It sounds very nice. Maybe add more ability could make this game even more funny, like kick paragliders out of the boat, break wind to force them leave the ship..

Really well done. I like especially the main aesthetic - a neat pixel art. The gameplay is fun and reminds me many old games which I bought younger like Donkey Kong. Controls are smooth. A super entry ++

I liked the concept. The theme is well executed, I love pixel art, and the music is totally retro. But for the cons, I found it a bit simplistic, I would add some mechanical depth appart from the telechinesis, like some kind
of item, or so. I mean, I just ran from one side to another constantly, with no skill needed to pick up dancing paragliders, just pressing a button and going back and forth, knowing that paragliders make you drown sooner or later. I enjoyed it for a while, though. I just need something more that keeps me playing again and again, knowing that I'm really getting better, not just random luck. At least is how I felt it. That said, overall is a nice game, I appreciate the work.

Thanks for playing @fernandxor, I agree with you that is a simplistic game. Only had 10hs to work on it this time :\, anyways you can win the game if you survive 5 waves of paragliders. They will stop coming down and you have to kill all the remaining ones to win (which is 100% easy as there's no hurry)

But as I said, I agree with making it more complete with items, and different types of paragliders as someone else said :D

Nice work dude! Perfectly executed the theme and I like the old-school style pixel art! But somehow I can pick up the item even when I stood on the same position of the item.

Wow, nice entry dude! Just amazing how you were able to execute this game so perfectly :D music fits well with the graphics and the game was so fun I was actually laughing :D I was waiting something to happen tho. Something unexpected, for example an energy drink which would boost your speed. also it would have been fun to be able to pic many paragliders at once. good job!

Fun little game. I liked the graphics (the walking animation seemed off though, because of the legs, I wouldn't know why exactly) and audio.

I had trouble finding out how to control the game, unfortunately. I didn't read the description in this post and for some reason "N" started the game (Instead of "0" which was written in the game itself)

That was fun. But I really wonder : who is the craziest ? Paragliders craving to dance on a boat inhabited by a psychotic giant ? Or a giant which fells a hurge to roast every single visitors on its boat ? Hmmm....

Actually, thinkinf of it, I am sure that we could find something alike in Ulysse's mythology.
