Virus: Rabbit by Rob Parker

[raw]
made by Rob Parker for LD 42 (JAM)

In Virus: Rabbit you play as a self-replicating resource consuming virus. You must travel from room to room infecting the machine and consuming resources.

Once you have defeated the security measures in the room you can move onto the next, you must move onto the next room before the current room runs out of memory space.

This game was created for the Ludum Dare 42 Jam by a small team of 4 people (and 1 dog)

Interesting game however the background could use some variation to help orient the player.

Fun little game. I think your idea and the setting is very innovative. I also like how you capture the digital feeling with your soundtrack.
Fighting is missing some form of feedback, it feels like hitting the air.
But otherwise cool idea and great execution!

I agree with ludum, there's not much to know where you're at here.

Neet little game. It was a nice interpretation of the theme and I liked the audio. To add some extra feeling, when you attack you could have added a small screen shake or something :). Overall nice game!

Very interesting concept. Found i kept losing myself though among the other rabbits, as the movement is quite quick. I really liked the audio track.

I liked the fire wall and Shield, I got lost in my own rabbits too often and yes I didn't know where I was half the time.

@ludum1118 @plukers @squidly @c0nst4ntin @kmce @angela-k - Thank you all for the kind and critical feedback. It's good to know the areas that we should spend a bit more time on next time we create a game!

Nice concept you got there mate :D Graphics of my white rabbits were glitching out! But since they are supposed to be viruses...mmmmh

Nice game! Gameplay was fun and the music was catchy. Differed enemies would have been nice and the movement speed is in my opinion too high. But overall a fun game!

Thanks everyone!
@the-shadermaster - I'm happy to hear you noticed and thought the graphics were glitching out because that was the effect i was going for. As you noticed, they are viruses so i wanted them to be glitchy.
@zayah0-0 - unfortunately that is a bug, we think it's because when the spawned rabbits spawn they briefly collide with your rabbit which causes you to move. We didn't find a way to fix it in time or properly diagnose it so i guess it's a "feature".
@jokku - Thank you for the feedback, in future i may go for a slower speed but we wanted a kind of manic feel to it and the fast movement speed definitely added that. Although i guess we could of lowered it a tiny bit.

I like the simple little tune and the look of the rabbits. Something about the constant cloning and the rabbit sprite feels very "mischievous hacker" which was great. I didn't initially realize I had to defeat all of the enemies to move on (even though it was spelled out clearly in the instructions, I missed it), so the first couple times I did very poorly, trying instead to avoid large groups of enemies. In retrospect I'm actually not even sure you can be hurt by the enemies!

Good concept, nice graphics but couldn't figure out how to destroy things.

Quite simple and pretty game. But as other mentioned movement speed is too high. Also, it will be good to see some sort of visual effects when you hit the enemy.

The concept is interesting to me and I think the game has a potential to grow into something (e.g. some sort of casual game).

I liked the feel of this game, it was very old school. It was a little hard to tell if I was attacking something, but nothing game breaking. Did the dog do the music? Because that was some cool music. Good work!

Nice game!

I was at first a bit confused when I attacked enemies, not knowing if it worked or not. Maybe this would be something to add, a visual or audio effect as feedback for a successful attack.

The concept is cool and I like those funny rabbit viruses fighting against firewall and others!

Pretty good idea and it fits the there nicely.Although I believe has potential to become a much bigger game.It becomes harder after each level but its pretty much the same level only more enemies.Great job overall :)

While the graphics aren't beautiful, they weirdly work perfectly well with the game. Great job and I hope to see more stuff from you!

Creative take on the theme! The music is fitting and I like how your clones block your shots because it ramps up the difficulty. The game over error message is funny as well. I'd like if you could see your projectiles because it's a bit hard to tell what you're hitting besides the enemy eventually disappearing. Some retro sound effects would be nice too.
Good submission!

I believe the system crashes too quickly. Also, why do my clones not attack? I would have enjoyed some sound effects, also. I enjoyed the concept and liked the music. Also, the game over screen was nice. It was fun to play.

A cool small game !

If I had just one bad thing to say, it's that you don't have enough feedback when you hit an enemy.

Oh interesting concept, I wish my clones would also kick some ass against the system when they are spawned to create a big brawl haha. I think the dynamic of the game would have had another layer if I had health or something since I did't get afraid of the opponents on the map which turned out to be harmless? Maybe I did't play the game correctly but I got past many levels until I overloaded the system too quickly haha. I really found the core idea fun and the theme also seemed cool, the overall execution was good and the background tune was nice too. I liked it, good entry.

Nice game, Love how everything is balanced!
Good luck, Don't forget to take a look at ours if you don't mind and see what it's like when we just focused on graphics in this game jam!

pretty cool concept! would be great if there was some kinda feedback when attacking the enemy. i thought that the enemies were indestructible. i also encountered a glitch where my rabbit flew far, far away from the level. the audio is pretty cool! overall a good and interesting take on the theme. how about playing my game too? :D

Great idea and theme for a game. Hilarious that you used a rabbit to multiply. Super fast movement, sometimes buggy, but overall the graphics and enemy design were very nice. Good job!

Very literal usage of the theme :) I liked this game, it's very dynamic and fun to play. It wasn't very clear for me when I'm hitting security systems (if I'm hitting it or not), some more visual feedback could help with it.
