A bunch of babies got loose and got their tiny hands onto some guns, they are destroying stuff and killing people because they are babies and babies don't care.

The goal is to get the babies back to the green energy crib(?) while causing as less damage to the surroundings as possible. Your score improves if you keep more people alive and more fragile items intact.

The theme for this Ludum Dare Jam is "The more you have, the worse it is", so I made the player able to carry all the babies at the same time if the player wishes, but each baby adds weight and makes every step and jump harder than the one before, so the player has to make plans on how to get those babies back to safety.

This game can be played with a keyboard, but a controller is highly recommended, since a lot of the jumps are difficult and get even harder the more babies you are carrying. There are double jumps, walljumps, throwing babies downwards give you a small air boost, you can throw and catch babies mid air, you can jump downwards too.

Music and sfx will be added in the post-jam version, along with tons of items, levels and gamemodes.

Gamepad (RECOMMENDED):

  • Directional Pad: Movement.
  • Y: Pick babies up, or if no baby is nearby to be picked up, drop or throw babies.
  • A: Jump.

CONTROLS:

Keyboard:

  • W, A, S, D: Movement.
  • Left Click: Pick babies up (or if already carrying a baby, drop or throw babies).
  • Spacebar: Jump.
  • R: Restart the game.

Hilarious! Throwing babies around was just too funny. Smashing into the ground with a whole mountain of babies on my back also felt pretty good. Walljumping is kind of awkward, but I got used to it after a while. There wasn't really much of a challenge, but it was still a lot of fun!

Very fun to play ! like many ld games, controls with AZERTY keyboards are not present but that's fine, the overall experience was there and it was very cool !

@hakunamacouta I will keep that keyboard layout in mind for future updates and other games, I didn't even think of that! thanks for the input!

Keyboard controls were a bit clunky. Nice little entry anyways.

The humor is great! The idea is so crazy and the pixel art is the prefecto combination! I really enjoy the game, congratulations!

Loved the pixel art on this, and being able to throw the babies. Controls overall were good, just had some slight issues with the wall jumping. We talked about this a little on the stream, but I wanted to give some more feedback on that from my perspective.

To trigger the wall jump, it was setup so that I had to push in the direction of the wall i was sliding on and hit jump. Doing this however, intuitively as a player, I keep holding the direction toward the wall I'm jumping off of. This would work out typically if the height i gained from the jump was high enough so that when i came back to the same wall, i was moving up it. Almost like i was jumping up the wall so to speak (think like super meat boy wall jumping on the same wall).

The wall jumping sections however were setup not to jump up the same wall, but to jump back and forth between two walls. Instinctively, I would press the direction toward the wall I wanted to wall jump to. Instead, when doing this, I would just jump straight up or just fall from the wall i was on.

I hope that made some sense for what I was talking about on stream. Still, great game, hope you continue to add to it.

Fun idea! Getting the babies over obstacles is probably a bit too finicky, and the speed of the jump is very fast making it even harder.

It was very satisfying getting the throws correct though, some music and sound effects will probably heighten the experience a lot!

Cool idea! I had a lot of fun playing through it. The art was good. Some sounds would've been nice. The wall jumps felt kind of weird. Overall well done.

Really good mechanic for the theme. It's really creative, and when I noticed you can throw the babies it was so much funnier,xD.

I had to give this a go just because of the title. It's a shame you didn't get the sound done for this as it would have really added to the game. Still, the art is really good and the humour is certainly there. I didn't love the platforming, I echo ManBeardGames's comments there. It would be nice if there was a need to toss a baby, like getting them through a small space, or to unlock something, as it is a fun mechanic (that was a weird sentence to type).

You have the best graphics ever. Cheers!

The gameplay, though, could be a bit better. The wall jumping is really weird and, if you are already touching the wall, it doesn't allow you to do it (no sure if it's bug or feature though). The level design could be a bit better to, though considering the time limit, the game is great the way it is presented :)

Our team does a weekly indie gamedev podcast called Nice Games Club, and we just did a Let's Play episode where we played thirty-six (!!) Ludum Dare 40 games, including yours (which we found more clever than it has any right to be)!

Well it's clearly a prototype but I like the idea. With all those babies around it's quite difficult to keep track of what's going on. One thing I did not understand is that it seems I got a "people alive" score of 2000 no matter how many people were killed in the game. Looking forward a game with more content in the future.
