Have you ever wondered how is it to partecipate in a game jam?
Oh, gosh, if you're here maybe you already know...

Well then, can't you wait for the next Ludum Dare to taste the excitement?
Play this game and see if you can feel the same feelings!

Instructions

You are a developer that joined Ludum Dare Compo, so you have to develop a game in less than 48 hours.
But remember you also have to sleep!

icons.jpg

In order to develop the game you have to:

  • find ideas (it's a Flappy Bird mini-game, I'm so, so sorry for that :pensive:)
You have to score at least 5 points to find an idea. The more points you score the more interesting the idea is; mini-flapping.gif
  • after you found at least one idea you have to code it by selecting the keyboard icon and press any key as fast as you can.
The first bar is the completion of the mechanic.
The second bar is the intensity of your programming, if you code too fast you create bugs that lower the completion of the mechanic; mini-coding.gif
  • you should also draw the assets needed for the game. It doesn't matter how pretty they are, you just have to fill at least the 20% of the blank sheet; mini-drawing.gif
  • when you're running out of power you have to sleep, so the power charges up.
But beware that while you're sleeping the time runs faster, so be sure you have enough time to keep developing your game; mini-sleeping.jpg
  • as soon as you have at least one developed idea you can publish your game, but the more ideas you have the more fun the game is (and the higher the final score)

Update

Since some user told me they couldn't go past the Flappy Bird mini game I've widened a bit the gap in the tubes.
I hope this is in the Ludum Dare rules as it was nearly impossible to finish the game.

Disclaimer

I really wanted the flappy bird mechanic to be a joke and the least important part in the game, but it was too late when I realized it was maybe the most important part of the game and I couldn't change the design.
I repeat, I'm so sorry for this.

Unfortunately I didn't get to finish every part of the game.
I wanted to add also an AUDIO mini game, but I didn't manage to create the music for my game itself...

Hope you enjoy it anyway!

You. Had. To. Go. For. Flappy. Bird. Arrghhh... :joy:

In all seriousness I really like the concept and it was enjoyable, although the mechanics minig game was annoying as heck

Not technically or mechanically impressive, but it's something. Although, the flappy bird minigame was near impossible for me it took me 4 rounds of the game to get to the lightbulb.

@peremily I hope it's clear that it was a joke :)
I originally wanted it to be just one of the minigames, but it ended up much more preeminent than I expected...

@red-fan-games I wanted it to be hard to reflect the difficulty of finding a fun idea for LD, but not that hard!
Maybe I should have widened that gap.

Thanks for your feedback!

Neat idea. I'm not a huge fan of flappy bird, though, so I can't say that I made it to the end!

I would like to rate the game but I can't get through the idea mini game, it is extremely hard. If the gaps were a little bigger ...

@simonhutchinson I knew this was a risk, but I was too late in the development when I realized it...

@richard-jedlicka you're not the only one who told me this, I have made the gap a bit bigger, I think it is in LD rules to fix issues that stop players to finish the game...

As a flappy bird allergic I could not get to the first lightbulb.
I stopped playing immediatly so I could not witness the greatness of the rest of your game, sorry.

@j-nat I totally get it, thanks for your honesty. I guess I'll never do an error like this in the future...

That was quite a bit of fun! :) I liked the different elements sprayed in for the jam, that was cool! The sound effects were fun, the art worked well (including my masterpiece scribbles), it made the mood feel like the compo. I think if you built in a couple of more minigames then you would have a really neat little project! I hope you continue work on this, it would be awesome to see it entirely fleshed out :)

@cnoble thank you very much! I had ideas for other minigames, but the scope was too big even at the current state... I'm so glad you liked it!

You have captured the beauty of a passionate game dev wanted to come up with the next best thing only to default to the tried and true in favor of time! lol Very nice. I had fun just trying to get an idea going. :P WebGL crashed as there was < than 5 hours left. (was that intentional making fun of LD crashing during submission time) lol So I missed out the ending bu had fun :D

@prodigalson I'm so glad you got the spirit that was behind this game, the struggle of finding an original idea but falling back on unoriginal ones (the same mistake I did in the game itself)! Lol, the crash was not intentional, if you could give me some details I'll try to fix it.

@belga45 thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad you liked it!

Really fun game, very fun to play with very nice graphics. Seems to be polished. One of the best games I've played so far.

This was really great. I think some alternate simple games could have it made it more accessible like snake or tetris, but I think this really encapsulates the feeling of jamming. I do think that programming should have had some other layer or have been more difficult somehow. Maybe typing wildly while also swatting bugs with the mouse? These are just suggestions, still love your entry!

Congratulations! You entry is really unique, and not only that, but it's quite fun. :) It would have been so great to be able to actually try out the game that I have created in the game! I'd like to see that in a post-jam version. Make more games ;)

@theflyingkeyboard you almost made me cry :')

@willdata I'm so glad you liked it! Yeah, I also had the feeling that coding was way too easy, the bug fighting with the mouse is actually a clever idea!

@klowner eheheh that was the point ;)

@easy82 Thank you very much for your kind words! I actually had the idea of making you play the game you made, but I should have think about a plethora of assets and gameplays! :D
